    Hello, I'm going to try my dog, who has allergies, and now is doing great on home made dog food. I haven't eaten quinoa in ages..but have some sealed in ball jars. I want to slowly introduce my dog to grains in her new food..which right now is salmon, sardine, veggies and supplements..all organic and natural.
    I'm going to use quinoa because I think it will be better than brown rice and more nutrias for her and agree with her. Since I've read quinoa is not so much considered a grain quit like rice.
    I never gave her grains when she was on kibble...kibble is such garbage for my little Daisy and totally doesn't agree with her allergic body.
    Now she's pretty well detoxed and nearly no itching, hair growing back...doing great.
    She needs some carbs to maintain a good weight...so quinoa is going to be tested.
    Home made grains are a completely different animal compared to the junk food, adulterated grains in dog food. So I'm pretty sure they will agree with her. I will see.
    I have several instant pots and use them daily pretty much so.
    Thank you for the easy IP recipe.

    I finally used my instant pot. This is the 1st thing I tried. I noticed that the floqt alve didn't drop, but when I touched it, it did drop... I moved the steam release handle to vent and could tell it was done as there was very little steam coming out.. my quinoa seemed a tad wet but still cooked. Will definitely try again..

    So do you have release the lid after 1min? Or just let it warm up for a couple of min?

    • @JessicaRiddy
      @JessicaRiddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes after the one minute is up, just let the pressure release on it own. It takes about 5-8 minutes. Open the lid only when all the pressure has been released. Hope that helps!

    Tried this yesterday, but I found that my quinoa ended up slightly mushy. It stayed on keep warm for about 30 minutes. Not sure if this could have affected it. This was my first time using my instant pot. I think next time I'll try 1 1/4 cup water instead.

    • @JessicaRiddy
      @JessicaRiddy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it may have affected it’s moisture content since it’s staying warm longer.. It’s a little trial and error learning curve, but glad you tried your first recipe yay!! I have a ton of other basics you can try on my channel, happy cooking :)

  • @SriSri-ei1yi

    Do we need to soak quinoa before hand? Or just give it a wash and cook?

    • @aileendq
      @aileendq ปีที่แล้ว

      No need, but rinse well using a fine mesh strainer then really shake to get the water out. Otherwise the saponins on the quinoa (which actually a seed but classified as a grain) will give it a bitter taste.

    I can't seem to get it right! I've seen 1 minute as the standard time for instapot quinoa, but it never turns out 😥. Any sugguestions?

    • @aaaproject
      @aaaproject 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put my pot on warm before I started and added the water and vegetable juice. I used 2 cups instead of 1+1.5. After the 1 minute, the instant pot should move to keep warm automatically, do not turn it off. Hope this helps. . The only other think I can think of is to make sure the pot is on high in manual mode and not low.

    • @dkyelak
      @dkyelak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JessicaRiddy I made some the same way as regular quinoa. It is a bit firmer, but it's fine. I also learned that because it is firmer, it would work better in salads and such. I don't notice much of a flavor difference.

    1:1 ratio works better. Otherwise you'll get a very runny/mushy quinoa. Make sure to REALLY shake that water out after rinsing - I use a fine mesh strainer. I also spray some olive oil on the bottom of the pot and release about 7-8 minutes. The quinoa should not stick together at all - the individual gains should have a TINY bit of firmness. I've basically replaced my rice with quinoa (with a very few exceptions).
