I lived i n Honiara from 1968 to 1971. This song was sung by the entertainment at The Guadalcanal club!!! It br ings back so many wonderful memories. Thank you!
Wolfman, I was talking about the song at the beginning of the video. Is there somewhere I can hear the original traditional version of the song. Best memories of my life were spent there. I lived at number 9 Mbura Ridge, license plate of our car was 1234!!
Thanks for putting this up..Honiara has grown heaps since I was there as a kid back in 1968-70....the place is huge!!....I was hoping you would get further along to the Guadalcanal Club...Lawson Tama and the local school we went to abit further on....Regards....Laurie
A friend of mine, whose father was a Danish anthropologist studying Rennell and Bellona gave a bunch of Reggae records to the radio station. It didnt' take long for the love of the Rasta Man to take hold.
Hey Laurie. Mate you just brought back some memories for me from the G Club. I miss this joint so much as well, when I last worked in the Solomons I lived on Vella, but i loved rocking back to Honiara whenever I could, beetle nut and all.
Hi Laurie, Glad u liked it, Oh the new Lawson Tama stadium is show in the clip, watch 1:27. Guadalcanal club is still further down, plus other new buildings, didn't manage to go down further that day :( ..Honiara is slowly growing...cheers
I guess we are very spoiled here in the U.S. I would love to visit Solomon Island. People seem to be very nice, genuine and not so entitled like many in the U.S.
I think that person was just looking for break in traffic to run across road. Neither pedestrian underpass at Central Market or Pt Cruz used that much back in 2012.
Hey Paul. Matey thanks for uploading the clip, this brings back such great memories, I remember some of the places but much of it seems so different. The only real places I remember are the market place near Pt Cruz and what I assume is the Mendana Motel and some of the government buildings, towards the end I recognised nothing altho I assume it was down towards the old Boral office and the old Club 88! place belong yumi, wontok, tenk yu tumas
@@paulsimister4168 It was next to the open market, which I think is in the same place but bigger. It made ice cream and milk using the "Mechanical Cow", which mixed powdered and liquid ingredients to make reconstituted, pastuerized and homogenized milk and ice cream. It sold a lot of soft serve cones on pay day.
Looks a lot cleaner than in 2016. I've just returned from a trip that included one day in Honiara-very dirty now. Shame really-seems to have potential.
I think Solomon islands is much safer than your own country. It is peaceful and naturally beautiful. People always greeting with smiling faces. Just go there and see for yourself. Peacefull solomon islands.
@@tannyhong7271 did you mean the Chinese couple who were murdered in their house (shop) at town ground in Honiara?...so sad for this poor couple...they were so innocent and humble human beings brutally murdered by some senseless individuals...glad that the murderers were apprehended few weeks after the incident..now they are rotting in jail...
Matey this I would suggest is one of the safest places on the planet, the people are friendly, decent and the salt of the earth. The other main touristy place is Gizo which is lovely, its a small town built on on small bay (the towns airport is on an adjacent island, not far from where PT 109 was cut in half (JFK US President) in WW2! Its worth a visit and the flight over the islands is second only to coastal Thailand.
the Solomon Islands have many different regional languages that are mutually unintelligible to each other. English is their national language however only around 2 percent of their population speaks English. Radio shows are still popular in the Solomon Islands because of that fact.

I lived there in 1961 - 78. The Guadalcanal Club is now the USP.
I plan to visit Honiara. It has a lot of improvement. I previously lived and work in Honiara in 1989 to 1992.
I'm from Nicaragua but I would like to go there one day.

Amazing how the music of the Solomon's has a very "Caribbean" sound..
A friend of mine, whose father was a Danish anthropologist studying Rennell and Bellona gave a bunch of Reggae records to the radio station. It didnt' take long for the love of the Rasta Man to take hold.
The original actually sounds more like folk this is just a cover by the samoan band The Five Stars

Between $1500 and $2500 per person. Check Google flights to HIR.

The first one is Pidgin English, the second one is English.
Slightly different Pidgin from what I used to speak as a kid there...50 years ago today! Laurie

The song was totally wrongly pronounced in its wordings.
