Been to Prague the past two summers. My bonus son lives and works there. My wife and I stayed inn the new town area but son took us way out from the tourist areas. Great food and drink at good prices. Public transportation is so easy to get around on too.
yes agreed, i always felt very safe!! definitely true of many big cities, it just takes a bit of common sense and you're usually fine (: and yes, i think it's one of my favorite cities i've been to for solo travel specifically!! glad you enjoyed you're time there as well!
As alternatives to candy, I'd recommend visiting the supermarts (Billa, Albert etc) and look for Czech goods such as Kofila, Tatranky, Kastany, Studenstka, Margot, Fidorka et al.
Great video, my wife and I are going to Prague the first week of December and we will definitely check out a couple of the spots you hit on this video. Great content!!!
Just discovered this channel. Glad you enjoed Prague. I have few comments - Trdelník (Chimney) its not really traditional - it a turist thing. Also that place where you bought candies was 99,99 % turisty place as well, so it was overpriced as hell. Anything is way cheaper if you go just few streets away from main (turisty) center. Pelmenárna is great place, but in most places dumplings (knedlík) doesnt look like that. Those looks more like pirogy, which is mostly Polish-Ukraine food. Czech dumplings are eather like balls or barrel shaped, which is then cut in slice (usually with Svickova = candlle sauce). Similar to Pelmenárna is Knedlík, which is also great! If you thinking to visit Prague, maybe check Honest Guide videos, they could be quite helpfull.
ah thank you so much for these! this was my first solo trip ever in a new country, so definitely didn't do quite as much research ahead of time as i normally do now! (: haha the candy shop was definitely touristy looking back, so i learned my lesson the hard way on that one, but i didn't know about the dumplings!! i'm hoping to go back some day, so i'll have to look into some more traditional places; do you know of anywhere to get good vegetarian czech dumplings in prague? appreciate it lots, thank you for sharing!! x
Hey! Great video :) I'm traveling to Prague next month. Can you tell me how long it took you to cover Prague Castle fully? Also, did you walk to all of the places in the video or use public transportation? Thank you!
Hi, if you wan to explore Prague castle fully, you should take 2 hours at least, though it depends - I recommend you to buy a ticket for the St. Vitus Cathedral and the lookout tower of the same cathedral at least, from there you'll get mesmorising pictures of whole Prague 360 degrees... The other atractions you can avoid and save money, as there isn't much to see, if you're not interested in history deeply... The Golden Lane is accesible after 4pm without a ticket, though the houses are closed.. I highly recommend to go to the Castle gardens and to the Kings gardens, as from there you'll get gorgeous views on all the redroofed historical buildings, it looks like from a fairytale... And to the public transportation - Prague has Europes best public transport system, with metro (subway), trams, trolleybuses and buses, but you don't need that in the city centre, as everything is in a walking distance.. I'm local, so take my advice...
i walked the whole time, it was really easy to get around and a great way to see more of the city! i spent about 2.5-3 hours exploring the whole castle, but i also stop to take lots of pictures so you can probably do it in less time if needed! (:
potentially yes!! i've heard most people really enjoy visiting in the summer when the weather's warmer, but also lots of people LOVE going in winter since it's such a pretty city to see in the snow and explore with the christmas markets! depends on what kind of vibe you want; i went in march since it worked with my schedule best, but i still got the winter wonderland feel fortunately which i was so excited for! if you're planning for this year, i saw that the prague christmas market opens up on november 30, so could be great to try and be there during that as well!! (: also, i was only here for 3 days which felt like just enough time to see everything i wanted to see, so 4 days would be perfect! although i have no doubt you could spend longer and really get to know the city better!!
Bonus points for chlebíček (and your pronunciation!) instead of prdelník. People whine about McDonald's, but the reason it's there is because people go there. And it's one of the few places in the city centre that isn't a tourist trap, so... 5:30 Nooooooo DO NOT buy anything from the random candy stores. They're all VERY overpriced tourist traps, and to give you an indication of how seriously they take hygiene - they don't. During the covid lockdown all the candy was left out, you'd walk past and see mice and rats in there. Then lockdown ended and they just opened up again. Not only is there a statue of men peeing, the pool they're peeing into is the shape of the Czech Republic. Also, you can send a text to the number on the plaque, and the men will pee your message. You really, really don't need to print your ticket, the inspector will just scan the QR code from your phone. Nobody prints it.
haha thank you, i wasn't really sure on any of the pronunciation as czech isn't a language that came naturally to me for this trip!! (: and haha yes i definitely learned that the candy stores were tourist traps the hard way! so funny looking back at this trip, as i don't think i would've made that mistake if i traveled there today. that's disgusting to hear about during COVID though... and no way about the fountain, i didn't even realize!! such a fun little random hidden gem! and on the ticket, i think that's another thing i learned the hard way haha! for all my recent trips i've never printed anything now and just use the app or QR code!! like the candy, you live and you learn!!
this was one of my first solo trips and it was a great city for it honestly!! i definitely recommend staying in hostels or more social accommodation to meet new people; i used hostel world and you can even chat with people staying in the same place ahead of time! the friends i met in this video were mostly from booking different activities like the bar crawl and the beer museum, so i definitely recommend looking into opportunities like that as well (: i've even seen facebook groups where people can find travel buddies to go with, so definitely don't let being solo stop you from visiting! x

Prague is a perfect solo trip destination, very safe, just use common sense to avoid pick pockets, etc. Loved my time there.
