Interesting fact, back in the '80's, CHP didn't use radar. Instead, they had an officer at the tallest point, estimating speed and radioing units to stop the offender. I was in court watching 2 motorcyclist complaining that the officer didn't use a mechanical device to clock them. The Judge asked the officer, "How accurate are you in speed estimates?". The officer said, "Plus or minus 2 mph". They Judge said guilty.
Friend of mine was in court facing similar circumstances. Friend asked if the cop can tell the difference between 50 vs 55 by sight, the judge ruled not guilty.

The CHP had radar in the 80's! The method you're thinking of is time-to-distance. An example would be our fixed wing aircraft. The pilot will time a vehicle from hashmark to hashmark, usually a distance of one mile. He then uses a chart to determine your average speed and call a ground unit ahead to intercept speeders.
Actually.....The CHP was never explicitly barred by law from using radar, but the Legislature never provided money to buy the equipment and, under a long-standing agreement with the governor’s office, the CHP did not use it. The CHP did have radar equipped vehicles, they were clearly marked as such. Most of those radar units were bought with federal grant money by the CHP. In 1999, Under dumbass Gray Davis, California started to fund the CHP for radar use to include motorcycles.

tartredarrow I live in L.A. and I ride on Mulholland often. I speed and would prefer no getting a speeding ticket here, but I'm grateful of the cops here. Most of the time, around a corner bend, they're not watching speed as there isn't enough time to clock the speed of someone such a short distance away. So as a rider, I know that I should expect cops around corners, especially this snake bend here, and thus, not lose control because I spot the cop. why dont they just those center poles in the middle of those turns that are made of rubber that will put a stop to it. cost only like 5000 tops. save lives.
+FreerideLiberal It also interferes with lines of sight. Given that people ride that road quite aggressively interfering with that could potentially cause more crashes. Just don't ride or drive beyond the capabilities of your machine and your skill level.
Why are there no modern guardrails on this road? :-/ In Germany we have dual guardrails with an additional underride guard on dangerous curves. Especially on roads which are frequently used by bikers. The Rider that was down the slope could have been saved by that... I allways wonder, that no one has ever been beheaded by the guardrail @1:07... When you're sliding underneath this guardrail feet first and the helmet gets stuck, you have a real problem. But respect to the cops, they seem pretty cool up there.
Basic economics. Germany is the size of Washington state and has a population density of something like 600 people per square mile. The U.S. is something more like 80 people per square mile, with 4 million miles of road. Germany has 400 thousand miles of road. Germany has more than 7 times the population density but 1/10th the road surface.
John Techwriter well you are not really going to slow down until you get to the bottom... and depending on where you are you could be rolling down a 200ft+ cliff and just gain speed...
NeinDanke, in the USA we have millions living off the governement so there is no money left for things like guard rails.. and the liberals won't rest until we have more immigrants feeding off the system. I know that seems like a crazy concept for a hard working German but that's the way it is here.
Chicken shit cops writing chicken shit tickets, hiding in bushes with radar guns busting guys having a little fun on their sport bikes.. guys who pay these chicken shits their salaries.
You clearly have half a brain cuz I didn't see them stop a single bike on this video. Cops are dishin tickets to those d bags in their sports cars who can't keep it right of the centerline. It's not a race track and as you can see, bikes are in on-coming traffic. They are keeping it safe for the bikers assbag.
I'm not denying they don't write the bikers but that didn't happen in this video, which is what you commented on. I'm guessing they are just sick of dealing with accidents all the time so the boss says get the fuck out there and write tickets.
Fair enough Jrock. My comment originally was sparked by the comment about not enough appreciation for them. Soon as they stop hiding behind bushes like pussy cowards and harassing the people who pay their salaries I'll show them some appreciation. I've never been to Mulholland but I'd guess one day they target cars crossing the line, other days they go after bikes. Or maybe they're equal opportunity ticket writers and this video is edited to show only the centerline car violations. All I'm saying is, as bikers, lets not sign up for the CHP fan club just yet.
Motor officers stil have no protective gear? They can crash just like anyone else... Oh and they have the right to siren cyclists to give way? That guy has the same right to use the highway as they do, plus at that distance it could panic the guy into a crash. Dumb behaviour IMO.

roythearcher Yup! Without laws, rules, and Gods we would all be hooligans and run around with reckless abandon destroying everything.... Vehicles (including bikes) have advanced quite a bit since most speed limits were set. A vehicle produced in 1970 cannot stop in the same distance as a vehicle produced today. Could it be modified yes, but most start with increasing HP, but luckily most Milennials have no idea how to work on anything.

Is it still extra hours of traffic school for crossing the double yellow line in California? I remember having to go to traffic school for the standard 8 hours, but a guy was there for crossing the double yellow on one of the canyons (he might have passed someone doing so which might have been why the extra hours).
Why are these dicks cheering when the "expensive cars" get caught? If its for riding the middle line, i get it and I'd agree (being a biker myself.) For anything else, i don't. I always warn cars coming opposite direction of hidden cops. It's us against them. They are out to get us and we need to help each other!
It is because of passing the double line. We all share in the love of anything fast on 2 or 4 wheels. But endangering other lives isn't cool no matter what car or bike you are in.
xxjarrodxx2007 You just gotta be sensible and pick and choose your roads wisely. I used to live in LA and rode this road (Mulholland) a lot. But it was always too crowded to have any fun. Too many cops. These squids are obviously only looking for attention from cell phone cameras. True sports car/bike enthusiasts find the empty roads and look to impress only themselves and endanger nobody else. : )
As a car guy / bike guy I just can't understand having a screaming exhaust on a car or bike... why announce to the cops what you are doing before they can even see you. Perfect example is that black truck. Yes he'd still get pulled over if it was quiet, but after hearing him stab the throttle so many times a simple speeding ticket could easily be a driving to endanger charge.
+volvo09 I think they can't fine you based on the sound of your exhaust. RPM is not really a good indication of speed. I could do 4000 rpm on my FIAT 500 and still only do 30mph.
+Врач ред Yes but if you're hitting downshift after downshift and then ripping hard through the gears up again it's pretty clear what you're doing speedwise
Funny how the cops can rip their bikes through the turns and speed, but nobody else can. I'm no cop hater but can't stand police hypocrisy and the whole I can do it but you can't idea.
Where was that happening? Maybe you're making assumptions about their speed, the speed limit in play, etc. Is there a law against "ripping" a turn, whatever that means? There's plenty of vids on this site showing cops misbehaving, because they certainly do. But this isn't one of them.
5:03 Fuck... Those guys probably have no idea what hit them. There probably like "How the fuck did he clock me at the speed I was going a mile before I saw him?"
ryan lundgren really...a bike exceeding the speed limit cant kill people...if you want to live in a make believe world like the one you are living in then i guess they cant
MisDirected Sorry I'll be more exact. A motorcyclists speeding is much less likely to kill someone (including the motorcyclists) than a car going around a blind corner in the opposite lane. Which is why they crack down on yellow line crossing much more than speeding.
MisDirected No that's for the courts to decide, they just don't enforce every illegal activity, and just go after the extremely dangerous ones like crossing the double yellow line. It's like how cops in philadelphia generally don't pull you over for speeding because they have drug dealers and murderers to go after. Both are illegal, but cops choose to go after the one they feel is more dangerous.
Michael Moretti Lol no, that's what YOU think. Try not breaking the law and you won't have any problems. "Jackbooted" lol give me a break. Guarantee you're some foreign fuck who doesn't even live here.
Let me clarify a few things. I rode 2.5hrs from a completely different city to get to mulhulland dr. Once there I rode from the 101 all the way to the 405 at which point I have up trying to find that popular corner and took the 405 for 2.5hrs back home disappointed. Could anyone be able to specifically tell me where exactly that spot is where everyone either films or rides that corner? why did the bugatti get pulled over? he went to the other lane during the corner because of a bicycle was there mid corner...
He almost hit another. You're supposed to slow down behind them. Where I'm from, you're required to be 4 feet from any person or biker.
MrHepnerd7
there was no one in front of him
Tj1056 Wrong car. Oops
Well, in any case he was over the lines. That's dangerous on snake roads.
MrHepnerd7
well yea but I mean he still has to share the road with the bikers and its not like he new the bicyclist was going to be right there at the apex lol :p
That's why there are laws. So risks don't have to be taken.
what did the veyron do wrong?
that truck sounds soo bad ass
I loved it. Badass!
Dingus E. Dow just don’t drive it on the most popular road for motorcycles in SoCal?
Crossing a yellow around a turn.. can't see that turning out bad.
The sound of the Desmocedici is awesome! really rare this masterpiece!
why dont they just those center poles in the middle of those turns that are made of rubber that will put a stop to it. cost only like 5000 tops. save lives.
+FreerideLiberal It also interferes with lines of sight. Given that people ride that road quite aggressively interfering with that could potentially cause more crashes. Just don't ride or drive beyond the capabilities of your machine and your skill level.
+FreerideLiberal Tickets are a better reminder.
At 4:59 I see on the sign it says, "No drifting between 6am-11pm", does that mean that you're allowed to drift at night?
Why are there no modern guardrails on this road? :-/ In Germany we have dual guardrails with an additional underride guard on dangerous curves. Especially on roads which are frequently used by bikers. The Rider that was down the slope could have been saved by that...
I allways wonder, that no one has ever been beheaded by the guardrail @1:07... When you're sliding underneath this guardrail feet first and the helmet gets stuck, you have a real problem.
But respect to the cops, they seem pretty cool up there.
because the government is greedy and uses its money elsewhere
Basic economics. Germany is the size of Washington state and has a population density of something like 600 people per square mile. The U.S. is something more like 80 people per square mile, with 4 million miles of road. Germany has 400 thousand miles of road. Germany has more than 7 times the population density but 1/10th the road surface.
Guard rails are fatal for motorcyclists. Better to come to a gradual stop rolling down the hill. Really!
John Techwriter
well you are not really going to slow down until you get to the bottom... and depending on where you are you could be rolling down a 200ft+ cliff and just gain speed...
NeinDanke, in the USA we have millions living off the governement so there is no money left for things like guard rails.. and the liberals won't rest until we have more immigrants feeding off the system. I know that seems like a crazy concept for a hard working German but that's the way it is here.
4:58 no drifting between 6am and 11pm, love that sign :D!
Does anybody actually drive at a normal speed on Mulholland?
During the week, when the locals are going to work...
Driving back home, after they've crashed
I've never seen it.
My friend you don't know how real your intro actually is.
When you want to show off your GTA skills in front of the cops....
Cop yelling....STOP!!! STOP!!! STOP!!! ✋
The flaming intro hasn't aged well
I’m liking that old Chevy truck - I could hear the blower.
Love your work Rnickey!!
I'm glad to see the cops doing their job
Not enough appreciation here for you. Everyone else is hating on the cops for them doing their job.
1:24 reminded anyone of NFS Hot Pursuit 2?
Motor officers stil have no protective gear? They can crash just like anyone else... Oh and they have the right to siren cyclists to give way? That guy has the same right to use the highway as they do, plus at that distance it could panic the guy into a crash.
Dumb behaviour IMO.
GuzziHeroV50
Maybe he was being a dick, I can't say, but I think the siren was just sort of a "hey I'm back here" kind of thing.
Thanks for the videos!
4:15 ol' boy had a bald front tire..SMH
Oh yes what a ideot driver ride with that very very bad/defect tire!!
Always blessed with the coolest cars and the finest of weather
0:48 I hate to say it, but the Police Crown Victoria sounds better than the POS truck
lol
You nailed it! POS rod. Another IDIOT Californian gets a ticket. Why you ask? IDIOT
Not as good as a Buick with a 455!
Anyone know what siren CHP used before the whelens? Sounds like pa300 but not certain.
Can we give some credit to the Police? Well done peoples. Respect.
+Gunthex Yamakela To the ones that are helping people I certainly can! To the ones that are hiding out and waiting to hand out chicken-shit tickets which in turn gives money to a bureaucrats that can't balance a checkbook....I'll pass.
roythearcher Yup!
Noel P
.....OOOkay!...
+Gunthex Yamakela Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies work that area too.
Noel, you're right on point with your comments. I listen to the Ace Man's podcast too.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! What is the speed limit on this road?
Those new CHP explorer SUV's are pretty cool!
Man this looks like a super fun road. I’d love to send it on these corners!!!
No Drifting between 6AM-11PM lol. Thumbs up if you like
i love that mate black truck at the beginning, sounds and looks awesome !
0:04 the intro is now accurate , unfortunatly, after last year's fire... :(
Love the cop riding with short sleeve shirt. Setting the standard in protective gear
why dosent the police wear protetctive gear?
that's what im thinking too. they wear even thinner clothes than nornal people walking on the street
+Karl Andersson Kevlar vest underneath is probably the best chest and back they could get. Don't know why they skip anything for the arms though.
The kevlar is for stopping pistol rounds, might protect against road rash, but not impact.
doesn't do shit for shoulders/knees/ankles/hips/elbows etc tho
Lately it seems like we should be wearing protective gear from them.
I'm trying to find your clip of the guys who came around the bottom corner and saw the cop and all slowed down like nothing happened but I can't find it anywhere. Any idea what the title was?
That crown Vic ripping at 0:54 is amazing.. Don't mess with those Vic's boys n girls they will
Get u
@@Techno_Avatar yeah I feel pretty safe when I’m on my Z x14… But compared your your average cage those crown Vic’s Are pretty potent. Not to mention completely indestructible
...I lived in LA in the 1970's until 1982....Sunday was the ride to the Rock Store....seldom were seen any cars....riders were good, no crossing the lines or speeding...CHP seldom seen...tickets seldom written....I probably been to the rock store 300+ times...30 years...things are a bit different....
Damn, in retrospect, this is a sad intro. What with the fire and all.
Is it still extra hours of traffic school for crossing the double yellow line in California? I remember having to go to traffic school for the standard 8 hours, but a guy was there for crossing the double yellow on one of the canyons (he might have passed someone doing so which might have been why the extra hours).
Lol.. 4:58 "NO DRIFTING BETWEEN 6AM-11PM" nice :D
I remember seeing a street in Riverside, CA that said NO DRIFTING, it was a long wide sweeper too. Gah I miss Cali
Does this sort of gathering happen often out there?
Loved the chp formation showing how to stay in the lane..what do they ride nowadays?
Looks like BMW R1200RTs
The cops are having just as much fun ya won't see them dragging a knee or even crouching slightly, bolt upright at all times but still fast.
Its about riding skills - knee dragging is bullshit on public roads, no need whatsoever
Hpw did the cop see the first guy crossing the line? Do they have spotters?
I guess 5:12 answered my question
Why are these dicks cheering when the "expensive cars" get caught? If its for riding the middle line, i get it and I'd agree (being a biker myself.) For anything else, i don't. I always warn cars coming opposite direction of hidden cops. It's us against them. They are out to get us and we need to help each other!
Cracks me up when someone thats already rich gets a ticket. LIke theyre going to go broke now. Thats a trophy for them.
Amen... me too brother...
Come ride in Colorado. No cops and the twisties are insane...
It is because of passing the double line. We all share in the love of anything fast on 2 or 4 wheels. But endangering other lives isn't cool no matter what car or bike you are in.
xxjarrodxx2007
You just gotta be sensible and pick and choose your roads wisely. : )
xxjarrodxx2007 makes perfect sense. I agree with you.
Used to drive those canyon roads M-F, and it was fun. Fine enforcement has taken all of the fun out of it today.
any man gets excited if there is curves ...
Arnickey, you do a great job.
no drifting between 6am and 11pm
:D i didnt know drifting was legal at all^^
Thats what I said! Lol thats cool af!
So drifting is allowed on mullholland at certain hours?
Is it possible for car drivers to stop cutting off corners and actually drive?
Just glad to see a rider can get help when serious distress;however, hopefully there is someway to contact help
Idk man. I have a jeep with a small block v8. Oem muffler.... I think it's just to quite. Lol can't even hear shit if radio on and above 2..
+volvo09 I think they can't fine you based on the sound of your exhaust. RPM is not really a good indication of speed. I could do 4000 rpm on my FIAT 500 and still only do 30mph.
+Врач ред Yes but if you're hitting downshift after downshift and then ripping hard through the gears up again it's pretty clear what you're doing speedwise
also, did that motorcycle cop pull over a bicycle at the end of the vid?
No, he was just letting him know that he was about to pass him so he could pull off to the side more.
cops in formation, impressive !
Is it thought? Fine-able offence for everyone who's not a cop apparently.
Are they being pulled over for speed or crossing into the other lane?
I'd stand there with my video camera and laugh at those drivers/riders getting busted.
+peter8488 That alone would be worth the ride to get there.
at 5:26 theres a Ducati Desmosedici RR, one of only 1,500 made. retailed for $72,000 in 07/08.
even though this video is 3 years old, it still baffles me that people get pissy when a car goes over the center line, but not when a biker does...
I am assuming that the beeping coming from the radar gun doesn't mean new high score?
Funny how the cops can rip their bikes through the turns and speed, but nobody else can. I'm no cop hater but can't stand police hypocrisy and the whole I can do it but you can't idea.
Where was that happening? Maybe you're making assumptions about their speed, the speed limit in play, etc. Is there a law against "ripping" a turn, whatever that means? There's plenty of vids on this site showing cops misbehaving, because they certainly do. But this isn't one of them.
I don't remember reading the fine print of driving within your means or who are they to tell me how to drive? Did I vote for you??
5:03 Fuck... Those guys probably have no idea what hit them. There probably like "How the fuck did he clock me at the speed I was going a mile before I saw him?"
I bet Cops just put on the Sirens just so they can drive fast around the bends!
"no drifting between 6am and 11pm" at 5:01 ? whwat do they mean by drifting?
So its illegal for a car to cross over the center line but not illegal for the motorcyclists to exceed the posted speed limits? interesting
One will get someone killed and one won't...
ryan lundgren really...a bike exceeding the speed limit cant kill people...if you want to live in a make believe world like the one you are living in then i guess they cant
MisDirected Sorry I'll be more exact. A motorcyclists speeding is much less likely to kill someone (including the motorcyclists) than a car going around a blind corner in the opposite lane. Which is why they crack down on yellow line crossing much more than speeding.
ryan lundgren so what you are saying is that the cops pick and choose what is legal and what is illegal even though they are both illegal?
MisDirected No that's for the courts to decide, they just don't enforce every illegal activity, and just go after the extremely dangerous ones like crossing the double yellow line. It's like how cops in philadelphia generally don't pull you over for speeding because they have drug dealers and murderers to go after. Both are illegal, but cops choose to go after the one they feel is more dangerous.
You are right on the first corner in the video, but it looks like he cut in on the left hander too, maybe. The video isn't super clear.
Ill never drive on that road! hahah
awsome cut nikey !! love it... keep it going budy :D
Oink. Oink oink oink.
whats the speed-limit up there please ?
In the words of Nelson Muntz...Ha Ha!
I love how the guy in the truck slows down after drifting.
Damnn this bike cop just whipping it though 4:30.
It's not the size/type of bike boys. It's the ridah.
Craziest thing about Mulholland is the lack of skill of all the riders. They all think they're rossi but they ride like gumpy.
thank you to the men and women in blue, blue lives matter
no
Robert Pressley No
Robert Pressley no they dont.
Yes they do and fuck everyone else here for saying they don't. Hope karma gets you.
The rest of it looks fun as well but was wondering if you were truly on mulholland dr or on laurel dr, or???
