Thank you George! I know there are lots of these parts on old farms around here, but the old guys that hung on to them have moved on, now it's just junk to the younger generation...I guess in some ways, it is just junk, but I make it work one way or another. 😎
Thats a first for me but do what you gota do. worked out fine, I bought 1 of the cover plates cost me 45$ for a 390 couldn't find one anywhere unless you buy the hole car
In a manner of speaking, it is a shim, why ford did it this way...I really don't know? But, without it, the torque won't have room to expand when hot, and the starter clearance will be wrong.
Thank you Matt, I'll be putting it in the way it is, it was supposed to have been rebuilt a little while before the truck was parted out...we shall see. 🫣
Hiya Alvin! Simple and innovative fix. As you know I’m a Chevy guy, so I’m curious. Why do you even need that spacer plate? Could to have just chucked it and carried on?
Hey Troy, The separator plate is a total waste of metal and time...but if you don't use it, the start clearance will be wrong, and the ring gear will destroy the starter drive, also the torque will be pushed into the pump... unfortunately, it's a stupid design, but necessary. Fords better ideas. Lol
Hello Alvin. Nice fix on that plate. Funny how things that were in abundance a while back get so difficult to find now.

Thank you George!

Ingenious solution! Well done sir. Thank you as always ~ Chuck
Thank you Chuck, it worked out very well!
Cleaver solution. Nice.
Thank you John!
Alvin,
You are quite the impressive master craftsman, my friend. But next time just go with the Duck Tape. Must I learn ya everthin?
Regards,
John
Thank you John!
Duck Tape has been used to skin old airplane wings, so it should work here too! 😉

I could get one for $65 usd, but by the time I add shipping, it's around $130 usd...now convert that to cad, $175...shipping costs are insane!
Good work around. I am at a loss as to what purpose this separator plate actually accomplishes . It looks like a shim. Thx Alvin .

Great job finding a way to make that one work. Will you be putting the engine in as it is or will you be refresshing it?
