    Never thought I would be able to dive from an Island in the sky to a cave on a mountain, then swim through the mountain to its peak. Then build a rocket powered airplane and took off towards my quest marker but here we are. This game is insane.

      Just looking back on BotW is... I hate to say it, but almost painful! Like I can't imagine going back to exploring the open landscape just to find another Korok stone circle... another Hinox... another ore deposit... another Korok puzzle... another Hinox, with a Talus nearby... Without any sort of underground or sky, the ground-only BotW was _just so limited,_ and I didn't even know it.
      It's kinda like when Assassin's Creed games finally started letting you go into buildings. It was like "Oh wow, the entire game is different now!!!" (except it was Ubisoft instead of Nintendo, so the whole idea was barely fleshed out and all the magic died on impact).
      Traveling through TotK compared to BotW is like getting your driver's license and changing from a bike to a car. Like getting your first debit card after getting an actual job. The streets and buildings of your town are all still the same.. and yet everything, _everything,_ is different.

    I was on the fence until I found myself exploring hyrule castle and hidden passage a few hours into the game. I knew I wasn't supposed to be there, but it was fkin amazing. I really love the fuse mechanic for weapons and arrows, so many crazy combos. Really gives you an incentive to kill harder enemies as you can fuse their parts onto your weapons to make some really strong stuff.

I thought the world was very empty for the most part, so I didn't have much motivation to keep going after the main story. However... With Tears of The Kingdom, I am savoring every little piece and taking it slow and having a blast. I have still barely touched the depths because I am wanting to save that for a bit. The answer is yes I know because I didn’t like Botw. This is way better to me because there’s just more to do in the world, more secret areas, things to find, ways to get places. I mean yesterday I was going to a destination I knew where I was heading and was dedicated to getting there. Then boom a rock fell out of the sky and I couldn’t not recall it back up to the sky. This was right after I came from a shrine. I ride the rock back up to the sky boom another shrine I was super surprised. Then I got launched across the sky to another sky island finding an secret item. It was just great because the ground, underground, and sky all look and act entirely differently and the gameplay changes and you can be from one of those locations to another in seconds and in different regions as well. WHICH IS INSANE TO ME. I’ve never imagined this for an open world game

    I disagree that the game feels alive and full of people, I definitely feel a lot of the time very alone especially for like the first 10 hours at least, and like if I compare this game to other Zelda games, not including breath of the wild, you rarely actually feel you are progressing because like for example, you might receive a new ability and feel you have unlocked part of the map in the past which gives a sense of achievement and progress. However, since you craft a lot, and are exposed to the whole map, you never really feel that what you are doing is useful, and you can waste a ton of hours, It doesn't really talk about receiving more hearts to actually face against stronger enemies or where you may find it, or how you can go back up to the sky and why, and I feel like I need to look up things here and there on youtube just to confirm things I think the game should have told me very clearly. Great game, but I really miss the atmosphere, the music themes, and the vibrant character of games like majora's mask or ocarina of time, even link to the past. Too much ambience and gloom for hours at times, I wish there was a better balance.

    Fun fact about the depths: it's the exact same map as the surface, same level geometry and everything. What they did, was invert the height map, so mountains become craters and vice versa. Really creative way to re-use the same level geometry to save space, but still have it look really different and alien. It's sort of this game's version of the Dark World.

    From my current time spent in totk I feel its a solid 9/10 *at the moment.* The things I have tiny hiccups with are admittedly just cosmetic things or are otherwise just not important (the ultra hand can be a tad clumsy I find). But everything else is just brilliant! The new enemies are refreshing and seeing old yet new areas is weird in a good way.

    The thing is that nintnedo used botw as their starting point. Since they didnt need to build a new engine, graphic style or even design a whole new map, towns or characters, they coyld focus these 6 years on just adding on the base game, which makes this game like botw but much denser and creative. Thats why it dwarves botw.

    Its a good game that tries so hard for you to hate it every step of the way, and its an uphill battle. Clunky and confusing controlls with no way to remapp them, poor balancing (mogoblins do the same dmg as bosses 6-10 hearts) , Link takes forever to get back from the floor after been hit which is just annoying. Weapons break again, random rain make you lose time in real life so you can climb again. Performance is quite bad.Rewards for exploring is mostly not worth the supplies you lose, unless you find some armor which is not often. The music is the same ss botw, the world ,the enemies ,many bosses the same..insane asset reuse. Like a big dlc.Story is convoluted and contradicts Botw. All those including its a good game. I was a bit of a naysayer having loved BotW for its exploration, but felt TotK looked a bit too familiar. So far however, I am loving it. The first tutorial area (the equivalent of the Great Plateau) is a bit rubbish. It feels too much like a training area rather than a complete ecosystem, is one of the less pretty areas, and has too many chasms that act as invisible walls - but once you leave this area it really picks up. Retreading Hyrule has felt like a new experience. More like a new world with some familiar callbacks than a reused world with some new parts. Most of the new runes I have basically been able to ignore, not having any desire to craft. My biggest criticism would be Fuse. It's a pain whenever you pick up a new weapon or shield of having to augment it; fused weapons and shields often look stupid when Link is carrying them; and the way it replaces elemental arrows is a right pain in the bum. Nintendo, let me pre-fuse arrows in batches please.

    • @AidenPearson
      @AidenPearson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's nice to see someone with a similar mindset! The new runes seem neat in thought but come off as tedious in execution for me. I agree Crafting was never my main draw to this game, and I'm glad it's not super enforced. And same goes for Fuze. While fun to mess around with occasionally, especially on shields, I find it a bit ridiculous running around Hyrule with broadsword attached to a giant Boulder. (Also the elemental arrows having to be manually input every shot feels like such a blunder)

  • @Alex_Silverpen
    @Alex_Silverpen ปีที่แล้ว

    Speaking of your adventures in BotW feeling like they carry over... horses. Not only are they less useless, but you can get your horses from BotW in TotK. It registers "hey, there's a BotW save on this account that had horses boarded, you can use those same horses in TotK." This includes special horses like the Giant Horse, or the Royal White Stallion. Speaking of special horses, there's new ones in this game. Also, you can register I believe up to ten horses at once if you save up enough Pony Points for that reward level.
    In order to access your old horses, you do have to first catch a wild horse, then go to register it. When you do, the stablehand will be like "oh, looks like you've boarded horses with us before. I'll let you access those horses too." and then you can either keep the new horse or ditch it to get your old ones back.
    There are a few new special horses. Spot, Princess Zelda's Golden Horse, and the Giant White Stallion. The Giant White Stallion is another giant horse with a different color pallet, Princess Zelda's Golden Horse is basically solid gold, and Spot is a quest-based horse at Lookout Landing.

    I played botw for the first time in 2019. I freed all the divine beasts, beat Ganon and even solved all 120 shrines. But unfortunately I didn’t own the game myself, and was playing it on a friend’s console. Christmas of 2022 I went out and bought a switch and a copy of botw in preparation for totk. I thought I’d be tired of the game, and although I didn’t solve every shrine on this play through I had a lot of fun re-exploring Hyrule. But totk really knocked it out of the park, I was debating buying the game at all, but I thought oh well, may as well give it a shot. Now I don’t even want to go back to botw because the world in totk is so much more expansive. It kept the same story beats but turned up exploration to 11. I was worried I’d hate the fuse and crafting mechanic but I actually love it and it allows so much more fun and mind-bending puzzle solving. Totk also rewards you if you played botw, I made my way to Korok forest because it was where you found the master sword in botw but when I got there the forest was infested with gloom like everywhere else in Hyrule. The game directed me to the part of the main story I wanted (about the master sword) and introduced me to a new mini boss. The developers really knew what I was thinking and nodded their head to it. Also the Yiga clan story in the Depths was 10/10. I love the fact we banish Master Kohga to the depths in botw and in totk he takes on a much more involved role as he has made a home down there. Running into him for the first time was amazing, and so was seeing Hudson construction alive and flourishing. I love the fact totk encourages combat too. In botw I didn’t want to fight enemies because my cool weapons would break but in totk if you want cool weapons you HAVE to fight bigger and badder enemies so you can fuse their parts to your weapons.

Then I listened to your review of the game and decided to pre-order it through Amazon. When I saw the Depths and everything it sold me on getting the game. I realized my pre-order wasn't going to get here until 11pm on release day, and I couldn't wait. So I pre-ordered it digitally on the eShop and booted it up at midnight. I played for twelve hours straight, and then another four hours when I woke up. Beat the Rito dungeon, and now am exploring the underground. I love everything about this game so much! I feel about this game the way the world felt about Breath of the Wild 5 years ago. Also, I tried to cancel my Amazon pre-order, but the cancel didn't go through. So I also have a physical copy that I am considering just holding onto because I like this game THAT MUCH. I'm only 16 hours in and it's an instant top 5 game for me. Now if only I wasn't also hooked on the Diablo IV beta right now!

    I find it crazy that Nintendo made this game with the weather, draw distance, and everything we can build and the physics plus how beautiful the game is then there is the sky island and underground which is as big as the main map and all the enemies and npcs and the game is only 16.5GBs. That is just insane to me that all of this game is only that big especially with how most ps5, Xbox, and pc games file size is.

    I'm taking a food break from playing Tears which is why I put this video on. I was one of the few who wasn't enamored with Breath of the Wild, but Tears of the Kingdom has addressed practically every issue I had with it, by basically taking what were previously annoying mechanics and for a lot of them tweaking their context ever so slightly to make them so wildly incredible-cooking, side quests, exploring, weapon durability, shrines, "dungeons", story, difficulty, combat, enemy variety, etc. Tears of the Kingdom feels like everything Breath of the Wild should have been. Nothing in this game feels contradictory; everything coheres and makes sense together and reinforces each other.
    A 10/10 feels too low for this game. My only gripe is that I wish inventory management was a bit better. But seriously, this game is blowing me away. The Legend of Zelda: Nuts & Bolts was so hyped, and yet it somehow met the hype and exceeded it. And Hyrule looks so beautiful that it can still compete with how beautiful Link looks. This is one of the best games I've ever played, and might even be the best Zelda I've ever played, but it has some really stiff competition.
    I'd say that Tears of the Kingdom is an immersive sim, (I mean, come on, we can stack boxes in this game), which is really refreshing after Arkane's Redfall catastrophe. And the tutorial area is one of the best I've ever seen, and might even be better than Deus Ex's Liberty Island, which I feel a bit shocked to say.

    It's an excellent game but what I feel is it's not as good as "breath of the wild"..I just feel like it's a massive chore going on the sky islands and it gets tedious building things. But they utilised the horse riding better to make you use a horse earlier on in the game.

      @@davidpopoca9409 I was busy walking around trying to get to get the towers to work. But then I realised I had to talk to purah first. Btw maybe it's just me but that location where purah is at looks strikingly similar to the location in ocarina of time. I don't remember seeing that in breath of the wild.

    It’s great, epic, and all the things.
    But some part of me misses the smaller scale and more streamlined progression of OOT, WW, TP, etc.
