    Really glad Apple finally fixed the Smart HDR issues since its introduction. The over-sharpening has been tamed down on the 15. And the color accuracy has finally been improved as well. This is the first iPhone that impresses me since iPhone 8/X. I've been waiting for this kind of upgrade. And as someone who has been loving the Galaxy S Ultra and Pixel cameras, I have to admit this new iPhone 15 Pro is the most advanced camera ever put on a smartphone.

      two fairly solid rumors/leaks for the 2024 iPhone Pro models... 1) both models (Pro and Pro Max) will have the 5X telephoto (still 12MP) and 2) all new ultra wide lens and 48MP for the ultra wide next year. So they have decided the Main and Ultrawide will be 48MP, still is a telephoto but remains 12.

I know the PM has a 5x’s zoom but I feel I’d use 3x’s more. Plus the PM has a better battery being larger overall. I saw that you prefer the regular Pro size like I do but wanted to make sure the regular Pro’s battery can handle a photo / video shoot day…Also, you got a new subscriber bc I found your videos so informative! Hahaha, I have been doing photography with DSLRs and system cameras since 2003, and it is just insane how good the iphone has gotten except for the wildest hair with foliage in the background. The basic image quality is now so good that it is difficult to differenciate, plus the convenience of having a camera/ 3 lenses setup at 220g weight in your pocket is crazy.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I feel like if they can improve lidar with a farther reach it could be very very good. It would be able to map hair strands if it had higher res lidar sensor which would then be able to easily cut out each hair strand no matter what the background is

    • @laliland
      @laliland ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeeZavitzI don't think the lidar does anything tbh. Even Apple only mentions it for night time portraits. The phone does the same images/portraits even if you cover the lidar sensor. It has no effect on edge detection. I think Samsung is doing a better job with hair and it has no lidar at all. But I agree with you, hair in portrait shots is dead giveaway that it was taken with a phone.

Definitely looking forward to this better camera for shooting BTS or the rare chance I don't have my camera on me (especially after your 35-150 video last year sold me on having one lens when I travel.)
    It's crazy how good these phone cameras are getting, if Profoto lights weren't as much as a used mirrorless camera being the only light that can trigger with a cellphone right now it'd be interesting to see how well they perform with flash.

    Pretty impressive photos from the iPhone but I still think nothing is better than the actual professional cameras. Cuz the cameras in phones use computational photography to help them and sometimes it can't tell what's in focus and what's not. And on top of that... the computational photography causes a smear effect on the edges of the subjects.

  • @michaelbell75
    @michaelbell75 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks. We do this every year and Apple is getting a little closer but I can still immediately tell the iPhone shots, especially on a big 5k monitor. Just way more detail and far better colors in the Sony shots, and the iPhone still does the HDR look which I hate, it just screams smartphone photo. Seems to do it even in RAW. Apple still can't get the portrait thing right. Skin texture still looks off and the tassels are blurred along with the background in several of those shots. What would be an interesting test is one of these older digicams with around the same sized sensor as an iPhone. Something like my Powershot S90 or S120 with their 1/1.7" sensors against the iPhone. Can use Focos to blur the background on the camera shots. My point and shoots beat my 13 Pro in landscape/street shots, need to try portraits soon since thats what I do. Still on the fence about the iPhone 14 or 15.
