Two long and very frustrating years into the live technology journey and it's finally coming together, I've made many mistakes and continue the repeat a few but fish have started hitting the deck. This is part one.
Love to see it, Ray. Amazing tech and love watching videos where the screen and the angler are displayed at the same time. Live scope is the same as a good pair of sunnies on a trout stream, just because you can see em doesn't mean you'll get em!
Good, honest assessment mate. We all know you have the ability to catch big cod and have done so for a long time. The game changer is the ability to target fish rather than blind casting and it absolutely makes a big difference. Fish are being caught in circumstances nowadays where they may never have been caught in the same situation previously, as they can be targeted so accurately. The live tech has been exploited by some and it remains to be seen whether it has any effect on cod fishing in the medium to long term. Tight lines!
If scope made it harder to catch fish I'm pretty sure they wouldn't sell many units 🙂 It's going to have an effect, maybe the fish will wake up to it or the fishos will get sick of catching ? I believe some handling techniques could be re-learned or learned in the first place.
Wow Ray that was an eye opener. I really enjoyed the way they reacted on surface that was insane. I know them feels I’m glad you have kept going with it mate
Good insight Ray to your learning curve. Observing the fish behaviour is fascinating. Good to see you posting again. Good persistence by the way. You never gave up.
Cheers Michael & As Norbs said "Murray cod fishing is not a race, it's a marathon" or something like that, Giving up isn't an option, it would be too easy.
Love it mate! Good, honest feedback! The only people who comment negatively about Livescope, are the people who haven’t taken the time to learn about it. Keep it coming! 🎣
Good stuff Ray! Very interesting to hear about the struggles and the reward. I can't wait for you to spill your guts on more of your theories youve learnt feom it. 👍
Looking forward to your up coming live info,I’m heading that way very, very soon.Have to work out what size unit to go with...power consumption is part of the decision for me. Feel your pain Ray.
@@johnloudon2396 Power consumption is a huge factor John, I'm running the GPS 8412 and the 34 transducer from a stand alone 100ah lithium battery, The charger App tells me I'm putting about 30 AH back into the battery after an 8 hour session.
Really interesting info and great to see the fish in action on the livescope. I might have to invest in a livescope as I have had a few doughnut days so would be better to know if no fish at all in the area or just not feeding time
Awesome insight Ray, being fishing with Pat and his scope although frustrating at times it’s definitely interesting to see how the cod react to certain lures and conditions,,
Cheers Rhys, definitely interesting to see reactions and especially to different conditions, the days when they come to any slash on the water is well worth noting in the diary :)
Anything to do with more Big Green fish action keep it coming. Although not that keen on the scope I honestly think I would consider one just to learn more about the Fish.. snagged a couple good ones seen on the sidescan over the years but nothing better than the unknown whack. Please twist my arm. Im waiting Only thing that takes my mind back and resets it. Fishing!. Keep it up. Cheers Jack
@@rayjclifford Platypus low-stretch mono in is another great, and often overlooked, option. Comes in long lengths, 10, 15 & 24kg, is good in cold water, it's cheap, and it increases hook-up rate. Tight lines and monster GooDoo 👍🏻
G’day Ray how things have changed.Have been a while between vids have missed them.Still love the cast into the unknown I guess it’s just me.Always informative mate that’s the spirit I love it 👍🍺
Cheers Leigh, I still send out the odd random blind cast to stay in practice for when I flow a fuse or the battery goes flat 😃 but I'm lovin the new underwater footage too much at the moment.
Good video ray, although watching someone scoping is boring as batshit ( my opinion, don’t shoot me! 🤣🤷🏼) I enjoyed your honest views and experiences. Keep posting legend. 👏🤙🏻
Cheers Andy & I understand mate, Scope Vids don't make the most exciting hook-up footage. I'll do my best to share what I believe to be true (at the time) 😀
Me again. Have you fished in dirty water with the live scope? Would love to see how they react to what lures 😳 mate this ihas actually made me think a lot differently about the pole. Well done
Hey Neil, So I removed the stinger so the scopebait has the best chance of making it through the thickest snags, and add the chin weight so it gets deep faster and stays deep on faster retrieve.
Great video. I’ve watched most of your videos but I rarely comment. I’m keen on learning anything Cod related. I don’t give a shit about the purists views on live scope tech. The purists I know are using sounders so I find it a bit hypocritical. We’ve come a long way since the radio was invented. I’d love a live scope, I just don’t have a boat to put it on yet, haha
Thanks for watching. I've been on & off the fence about Live tech, but being able to see what's happening in their world is addictive to watch, I'm loving it at the moment 🙂
@@rayjclifford Just keep doen what feels right brother👍. I really appreciate the fact you share the wisdom and how time consuming filming and editing is.🍻
I have the gpsmap 8412 and the lvs34 transducer. I think the 8412 was $5700.00 and the lvs34 was $2700 then you have to add a pole and lithium-ion battery.
No mate, Sadly humminbird have some work to do, I moved the helix 12 down back for searching likely looking spots, worth it's weight in gold on 2d, side and down imaging,
Nice honest opinion mate, im thinking about jumping onto the bandwagon too.. Do you think there is any difference between the Garmin livescope & Lowrance Active target? Cheers.
Cheers Al, Most people will tell you Garmin is 40% better than lowrance and 80% better than humminbird at the moment, All I know is I turn the garmin on and it works, all i do is adjust the backlight for day or night fishing.
very dissapointing, I used to like the videos of you catching them on surface blind casting away knowing the efford it takes. To see people cruisng around doing f all. Especially in the rivers, where you have lots of structure to cast at. Very dissapointing to see this change in the cod scene
I can see that you think you know & I agree fishing live doesn't make the greatest viewing, but stick around cos I've got some info for the blind casters and trollers that might be of interest in the next one :)

I'll see if l can put a bit of both together on the next video, I'm working on now.

It took me a bit of time to learn & some days it does feel to easy, but most of the time it a frustration.
Live scope fishing is like spot lighting deer.
I've never spot lighted a deer, love spotlighting foxes though 🙂
I hear you Ray - keep punching legend.

Give fluorocarbon a go and back your drag off if you are fishing braid and you might increase the strike/hookup rate.
Thanks for the content 👍🏻
Thanks for the advice mate 👌

The water is never super clear here Willy at the moment it's about 20cm of clarity and they seem to find the lure pretty easy.
Hi Ray can I ask the reasoning behind your idea to remove the stinger hook and add the chin weight?
Hey Neil,
So I removed the stinger so the scopebait has the best chance of making it through the thickest snags, and add the chin weight so it gets deep faster and stays deep on faster retrieve.

May as well strap on a vr headset and go chase virtual fish in the metaverse. Live scope sucks.

But thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
