I thought I'd share a few comments about our rig, because they relate to your thoughts about alternatively having a "Super C" plus a trailer.........
First, about the label -- most "Super-C units" are built on a 1-ton truck chassis, or even a Class 7 chassis. Ours is a 45-foot coach built on a Class 8 chassis, the same type of chassis as your Western Star. So to distinguish those smaller "Super-C" units from ours, let's call the largest units "Mega-C units."
As you mention, some larger coaches of this type are manufactured by Showhauler and Renegade. Ours was manufactured by another manufacturer, NRC Modifications, located just 6 miles from the Showhauler factory, and 6 miles from the Renegade factory as well.
The sidewalls and roofs of Renegade coaches are made "offline" of wood and other materials, and then attached (I believe they are bolted-on" as a unit) to the chassis and floor assembly as the coach is built on the production line. You can see this in videos of Renegade's factory tours here on TH-cam and in other places. Better than some designs, but probably not the best.
NRC and Showhauler units use a different construction method: a perimeter "cage" of welded steel tubing is built as one unit -- walls, floor and roof "skeletons" together. That structural unit is then "fleshed out" and the balance of the coach is then built upon that structural "skeleton." That's totally different from Renegade's method, which is to build separate sections, and then fasten them together on the production line. NRC and Showhauler are lower-volume production scenarios -- Renegade produces many more units per week.......
We love our 2008 NRC, of which we are the second owners, and in which we live full-time.. It rests on a Freightliner Columbia chassis with a pre-DEF Detroit Diesel Series 60 14-liter, 515 HP engine and a Meritor Freedomline 12-speed automated manual transmission. God literally put it squarely in front of us so we would not overlook it! We bought it with 109,xxx miles about 2 years ago, and it now has 123,xxx miles -- it's barely broken in ...... We tow a 24-foot enclosed aluminum trailer containing our Subaru SUV, which is such a light combined load (

Hey there Jim and Kelly!!! Another great video!! Our HDT search continues and we’ve narrowed it down to Freightliner. For us the way the dashboard is laid out is more convenient and easier for me (a short guy) to reach where I need to while driving. We have also found the factory seats to be more comfortable than other truck manufacturers. Now the problem is finding a reasonably priced bed build. As of the moment I’m typing this, I have 243 working days until I retire!!!!!!! Hopefully we will at least have the truck completed by then! Safe travels!

I had this crazy idea over 25 years ago when I actually owned a small trucking outfit.
Free trade and the economy changed that plan. A friend said , you gotta watch this couple, there doing something like what you wanted to.
So we took a look., and haven't. Looked back.
We even bought a Pete last year and now are remodeling it...Still working full time, but when the time is right & the deal is there, we will
Get a toy hauler...when we need a little encouragement we binge yall.
HDT isn't for everyone but it's the safest way to do what your doing...I'm pushing it here & getting some traction & even have the insurance company on board.

Another top notch video! We also use Miller Insurance for our fulltime needs and they can't be beat for customer service and knowing the needs of fulltimers! I sure do miss Aaron & Tina as well as Bubba and Kat! We also are fans of Soaring Together , Big Truck Big Travels and Karen & Dave...she was my inspiration for my total knee replacement recovery! We also are SD residents and it is our understanding that fulltime RVers domiciled in SD are exempt from jury duty. We follow many of the same folks! We are having a heat wave here in Utah and enjoying our workamping gig until October 1st then back to Yuma and a roadtrip with just the truck back to the east coast to visit family. WARNING...if you are planning a trip to the east coast 1) it is very expensive and 2)boondocking is tough to find and 3) RV sites are tough to find as well as there are LOTS of seasonals back east, ask us how we know, we tried spending summer 2022 there! Stay safe!

LOL...thanks Tina. We don't get a chance to take the grandkids with us, but they do stay with us when we're in their home town. They are so busy it's hard for us to get them to travel with us. We lived just north of Anchorage while in Alaska. Great memories!

I'm retired as a semi truck owner / union retired. I have insurance here in GA at 2400.00 a year on 2015 Kenworth t680. Progressive is who we use. It is a commercial policy but used as a RV. Tag is rated by gross weight. I have mine set at 44k pounds gross. It's 169.00 a year. I'm sitting here right now waiting on loves to come and brake loose one wheel. I've beet on it till I gave up.
Oh my goodness Thomas...we don't want to change a tire on the WS - that's why we have emergency roadside service! Hope it all went well.
Great to hear your back story. We watch the same channels you do as well. Really enjoy modification ideas, break/fix videos - frankly I think that is how I have fixed many things - watch someone else do it - Dave Watts is a great example of that for sure! Every channel gives me something different - which I really like.

I enjoyed the video. It's always nice finding out new stuff about the people you watch. I enjoy watching you guys because of your travels. This year and last year my wife's health has kept us home. If we can't travel then I enjoy seeing someone else travel and you guys actually show drive time which is nice. On travel days if you see something interesting do you ever stop, unload the car and go explore? As I've told you in the past we have a Class A diesel pusher and we flat tow a Lincoln MKX. I can literally be unhooked in under a minute. We have done this a few times. Exploring is fun. 🙂
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry you can't get out - and hopefully that will change soon. We really don't drop the car during a travel day. It's quite an effort to unload and then load again for a short time.

So glad your camera quit on you. The scenery from the second camera clearly shows why you are moving. I would love to have that view from my place. Would you consider actually taking the can-am from from your site into the area behind you. Of course only if it is legal.

Most HDT ers have their trucks registered as a motor home
Ours is registered as an RV Bill, but it doesn't really change anything on the registration. It's still a Class 8 truck that is private as far as insurance and weight fees are concerned.
Jim the property taxes are really good! I am paying 5K for a 1/3 acre lot in Medina Ohio! So Jim, keep all the costs in line until we all meet in a Danbury Senior Center in our old age!

I've followed several full time RVers over the last few years. Sadly, the first 2 channels are no longer up. Rumer has it, one couple (in their 30s) went their separate ways. Another couple disappeared from TH-cam almost 2 years ago. Other channels have evolved so much, I've loast interest. I'm presently following 2. I started following yours this past winter. And Big Truck Big Travels about 2 years ago. But I mostly follow homesteading or farming channels. Plus Bus Grease Monkey. He services vintage busses for RVers.
Quite a few of our YT friends have stopped filming, and it makes us sad. But we video our travels for our memories and love to take people along.

We use a mapping program called OnX: www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app. It has been our go-to trail riding map for a couple of years and we won't be without it.
@@SuiteTravels thanks. I just started this sxs journey. Our son purchased a CanAn Maverick Smart Shox. He works in Alaska and is home 2 weeks then works 2 weeks. Reading blogs and reviews I’ve decided to not pay for OnX but use GaiaGPS. It’s amazing for central Washington riding even in free mode. Took our camper and his sxs up Entiat valley 4 days and rode 400 miles and it showed all FS and private roads in free version! That Smart Shox is amazing. Great comments on SuperC too. We’ve been looking at the Renegade and I think I’m your kind of guy there. There’s a used 2019 classic for under 300k that’s really tempting us. Sigh

U may have already been over this subject.. How is the turning radius in the truck when u get in a tight camp ground.. and is the Volvo that much better when it comes to maneuvering in tighter spots.. I can't find anybody that touches on this.. I'm looking at a Kenworth t680 or a Volvo 860

Do you have towing insurance? Roadside assistance? I doubt you would want to change a tire on your HDT without assistance.
I have a 24' Class C motorhome and I just had to get it towed 32 miles..,$1700!! And it could have been more. I am going to be shopping for towing insurance soon.
Yes, we have an emergency roadside policy through FMCA. We haven't had to use it yet, but it's good insurance as far as we're concerned.
Well Jim and Kelly, my heart is with you as you travel, thank goodness you two are moving pretty good! Sometimes your aging in place kicks your Chiropractor in the I need more Money to treat you, because you suffer pain to much these days!
What do you think about the Switch it up rig of Todd and Sheila? What about the Volvo ?what about a45'Newmar supreme air? Look up Chase motorsports coach and trailer. Safe travels, I wish I had the means to buy something then I could be out there seeing the country.😉
We love Tod and Sheila and their rig is over the top! If we go to a coach, it will be a Super C. We like the Class 8 truck frame and lots of metal up front to protect us!

I don’t blame you I won’t pay for their videos either I pay for the TH-cam subscription. Unfortunately they have gone in a direction that really doesn’t interest me anymore. Seeing the countryside videos doesn’t do much for me I fast forward through the driving portion of your videos because I have been in every state including Alaska just haven’t been in Rhode Island yet and I have been in every province in Canada that borders to U.S. I know you have quite a few people that use your eyes to see the world. But I do want to show my wife the things I have seen just at a slower pace.
