HI - this is amazing for me to see. In the late 80s I worked as Chef/Crew on Enchantress and we used to do charters up and down the Windward and Leeward Islands. We were based in English Harbour, Antigua and I have many happy memories of the years Enchantress was my full time home. It's wonderful to see that she's still going strong and is still loved - she's very special and I wish you and your family many happy adventures on her.

Had this type of gulfstar 50 for (1983-1989) 7 years in US Virgin Islands for charter, loved it and it was fast.

Congratulations! We owned and sailed our 1978 Gulfstar 50 ketch (twin cabin) for 8 years and loved every minute of it. The kids loved the fulltime life. We have been on the road with a 43’ fifthwheel RV that we tow with a Semi truck. We marked our kids height on the main mast and painted over it with clear.

Hi Richard!!! It's so good to hear of great experiences and can't wait to get out there ourselves! I have RV dreams too, do you document your journey?

Do you find you can single hand her without a problem? I'm looking to purchase a 53' Gulfstar.

Hi Andy - thanks for your question! I'm sorry I'm only just now seeing it. Unfortunately it's one we can't answer as we've never tried to sail her single handed...in fact we've only had her underway once during our sea trial; after purchase we pulled her strait out of the water for a refit. If you're on Facebook I'd like to direct you to the Gulfstar Owners Group at: facebook.com/groups/112929912064450/ or Gulfstar Owners Association at: facebook.com/groups/gulfstarboats/ either page is filled with Gulfstar owners who would be a wealth of information for you. Good luck and if you end up getting the Gulfstar we'd love to see pictures! If you're interested in our refit you can see more over on Instagram and Facebook at Sailing Islay. Cheers!

How much and how much do you anticipate the upgrades will cost . I just bought a 32 foot beneteau but am starting to have some regrets because its not a solid world cruiser 😢

Hi there! We started our rebuild around 3 years ago and have since finished and started cruising. Congratulations on your Beneteau. I could not even begin to tell you what upgrades for your boat will cost as it will differ greatly depending on more factors than I can list here. There are Beneteau cruising all around the world so I hope you don't regret your purchase too much. I can say you should be realistic about what your budget is, what your timeframe for cruising is, and what you really NEED vs what you want. If you can do work yourself that will help with cost a LOT, and you should definitely know how to work on your own boat. Cheers!
