    No need to completely take off the door panel and disconnect all the wires, you just need to disconnect the window up and down control in the middle of the panel, that's all, then just let the door panel hang down enough to get access to the mirror wire. Really easy and took me no time at all. Just use a strong string to help get the wires for the mirror through that pesky little hole. Tie the string to the old wire before you pull the wire through to take the old mirror off, then retie that string to the new wire of the new mirror to help pull the wire through inside the car again. Oh, and be careful with that nut, undo the last few turns really slowly with a lot of care so you don't lose it in the door. Good helpful video though, thanks :)

  • @discocitygroove
    @discocitygroove 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    TIP!
    It's really easy drop the mirror nut down inside the door (I lost 2). Before unscrewing the nut, push a soft small towel in to the door cavity underneath the nut that way if you drop it you won't lose it.

    • @hvymax
      @hvymax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a piece of tape on the socket to retain the nut in the socket.

    • @hvymax
      @hvymax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Might be easier to splice the wires outside the car eliminating the door panel removal.

    Just wanted to say a quick thank you for this video. Whilst my Ford didn't have as many screws to remove, it was pretty similar. Especially liked the advice about getting the wing mirror wire in the gully to avoid getting it in the way of the window glass when you open the window.
    Word of note, I didn't have to take the whole door panel off... I was hindered by a nut that just wouldn't unscrew, so had to improvise! It was tricky, but I tied a piece of string to the new wing mirror cable and managed to feel where it was before pulling it through and re-connecting everything! Glad to say it worked and I've saved myself over £500 for a new one fitted by a Ford dealer in my area.
    Thanks again, inspired me to give it a go... So glad I did.

    nice easy to follow video, I cant help but think ford could have made this easier by placing the connector points for the mirror within the seal where the nut is removed to take the actual mirror off, would save having to remove a whole door panel

    Thanks guys. Was able to swap out a broken drivers mirror with your instructions. I was curious whether the mirror should fit tight against the door, since there is all that foam in the mirror housing. My daughter was concerned that water/rain could get between the door and the housing and cause problems, since the mirror isn't sitting totally flat on the door. The passenger side doesn't fit flat either, so that may just be a design flaw.. er... feature.

    before you put the cable through the top hole when installing the mirror, make sure you attach a long wire to it. then run the wire down until it comes out of the bottom hole with the plug, then tighten the mirror (13 hex flange nut in case it gets lost). i had tried this without the wire, installed it and the window regulator pushed the cable down. be sure to use the wire, i spent hours trying to figure out why the cable was interfering and pushing it to the side etc. apparently there are several shafts in there, hence the problem with the cable blockage.
    bevor man beim einbau des spiegels durch die obere öffnung das kabel steckt, unbedingt einen langen draht daran befestigen. dann den draht runterführen bis er aus dem unteren loch rauskommt mit dem stecker, dann den spiegel festmachen (13er sechskant flanschmutter falls diese verloren geht). ich hatte das ohne draht probiert, eingebaut und der fensterheber hat das kabel runtergedrückt. unbedingt mit dem draht machen, ich habe stunden damit verbracht warum das kabel stört und zur seite gedrückt etc. anscheinend sind dort drinne mehrere schächte, daher das problem mit der kabelblockade.
