My son and I got to stop in and spend some time with fellow beekeeper Marcus Hill on our way home from working hurricane Michael damage claims in North and South Carolina in October of 2018. This is a little bit of our visit. We had a great time with a great host and his family. Thanks so much Marc for putting us up and feeding us. We were truly blessed and the steaks were awesome.
Marc has some pretty interesting observation hives, one of which I got to add my signature to. We went through several hives including his Flow hive just to do some quick inspections and look at the health of the bees. This was shortly after Hurricane Michael and a lot of the vegetation that would have been blooming was pretty beaten up so the bees were lagging on building up for winter. This left the flow hive dry as well as a couple of others. The bees all looked really good though and he was starting feeding to get them built up through the fall of the year. Marc Hill beekeeping TH-cam channel link: / @marchill1837
When we left Marc's place we went and spent some time visiting with the Fisher brothers at their camp before leaving North Carolina For Mississippi. We did a little fishing a little eating and a lot of cutting up. Derek has a video of our fishing trip on is channel. Here is the link to Derek Fisher's channel Mr Shaky Head: / @mr.shakyhead5878

WoW! You made me out to NOT be the country Hick That I am. Update fed the flow hive and they exploded. Still did not draw out the flow frames. The observation hive did better but absconded. Put in a fresh swarm and they have it JAM packed now. This video was in October 2018 and currently I have given away 8 Nucs from these hives. I like to help new bee keepers. I am not in it for the money. For those that wish to host Randy and son for an over night visit. He is great and very polite. It will be worth the ribeyes you feed him. Incidentally he did not eat as much as expected. He wanted to keep his girlish figure. Randy you and yours are always welcome to stay over for several days if you desire. I am all about learning so comments are welcome. My rant for the year is never ever remove the entrance reducer all of the way. I have seen too many get robbed all the way out. I do use screened bottom boards year round. This year has been really good for bees in South Eastern NC. I will read through the comments later and do some commenting and answer any questions you want to ask. My link as posted By the Rooster is. th-cam.com/channels/54QxGHBGi4VX8pQ_587UwA.html Stop by and learn as I learn.

Just one suggestion....try and clear the bees from the edges of the bottom box when you stack...really made me cringe @11:45 when you mashed a bunch.....
Other than that, congrats on making it through the hurricane!

Could use a little help getting started myself. Disabled and on a fixed income. Trying to start a couple hives but cost makes it a bit hard on me. Pre ordering bees plus equip tools and gear. Prices on packages and nucs locally for me are high. Would be nice if I could get started a bit cheaper.

Enjoyed this video Dirt, been so busy took me 2 days to finally watch it.
I would break those first few hives down, can always add another box later but they had way too much space for the few bees inhabiting the set ups.
I haven’t gotten a drop of goldenrod honey in like 3 years!
And it’s my favorite honey by far. No one I know has been getting any either, very strange indeed.
Loved the bat houses. Remind me to tell you my 300 bat story unless I already did which I’d tell you again anyway, lol.
Mark seems like a good dude & I believe he’d make a great host for a bee gathering. Lots going on, lots to do at his place it seems.
Later Dirt, later Mark, good show you guys. 🤘🐝

I tried 2 name brand flowhives for two seasons... The bees hated it but the hive beetles loved it. I called it my hive beetle condo. I stopped torturing my bees and no long waste their time. The best thing the flowhives are good for are introducing folks into the love of bees minus the honey, I love hobby beekeeping (in my Langstroth hives).

I can see by this video that you did not add the steel bottom ruler to keep the back of the flow frame where bees cannot get out. Also, a tip for you. If you melt was and paint it on the flow frames, sprinkle some of the bees honey on it afterwards, they take to it immediately.

Hi guys! I've been watching flowhive videos by Frederick DUnn for years at 01:25 you are showing something that is a knock off and not a real flowhive. do you think that's why the bees are not using it? he says not to trust the nock offs because the companies don't take respnosibility for the materials. jsut my opinion observation LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! That's a fake though.

i can not speak to the authenticity of the hive, but i can say the the craftsmanship and quality of those combs is terrible. they should at least be even and match up to function correctly. these are not. the top 3rd looks mostly and totally closed, while the rest is definitely open. this guy should ask for a refund. it will not function with that kind of comb

You need to remove one of those brood hives. Just use one hive, queen excluded and the flow hive super. You do not have enough bees to go up and fill the flow frames also how vibrant is your nectar flow? Did you feed them? The flow frames are open, close them properly so the bees can draw out the combs. You are also missi g the metal plate at the front of the frames that seal the base of the flow hive box. Ants and bugs will get in easy and the bees will propolis it shut.

I have a question about this guy that has the bat houses. Is he a ham radio operator and if so what is his call sign. That tower his bat houses are on looks like my dad's. My dad who passed away Nov 2018 was a ham for over 40 yrs and we have a 75 ft tower in our back yard. Lol he would have gone taller if Ellington Air Force Base would have let him. Our house is across the street from the runway and the jets come in so low you can see the helmets on the pilots. My dad loved to fly and he got his pilots license when he was 16. His idea of a date was to take mom to watch planes land and take off. Lol Anyway great video as always.

You are sadly mistaken. Randy is from Gulfport Miss. area and you should contact him on 628dirtrooster.com. Bees are hard to get in some places this year and I am having trouble getting hives. I had to scrape the barrel to find a queen, but I found one and she went straight to work. But nuks well I seem to have started late cause I am not finding any.

If they are Africanized you will know by the aggressive nature of them. European are pretty chill.

In all truthfulness you can't tell any physical difference, but from my understanding the Africanized bees are slightly smaller and it takes a laboratory with specialized measuring equipment to make the determination.

That's not a real Flowhive, it's a cheap Chinese knockoff

Bees dosent say oh its chinese so we won't work in it . I have seen videos of both and they works same , in chinese version there could be minor issues like gaps or somthing like thst which were also in original flow hive 1 as well, here seems like they add super earlier or any other reason but obviously not that its chinese and not original

The one I went thru and split today was angry. Either just swarmed or about to.

before installing the flow super, the broodbox need to be jammed packed. It helps tapping the flowframes with a chunk of wax tha contains some pollen and honey.
