Cleaning Flow frames the easy, fast way

  • It seems that bees put a coating of wax each time they use a flow frame. I found that after using for a few seasons, Flow frames become so burdened with wax that the flow mechanism stop functioning. I found that a quick and easy way to restore the frames is to dip them in hot water. Beeswax melts at around 150F. To protect the plastic from softening, don't boil but keep the water around 170.

Great idea. I wonder if a solar extractor would work too.

Really bee careful with the heat. They'll melt if it gets too hot. The temp is easier to control in a bath dip.
