I know he's not underrated to his fans, but J Mascis is an underrated/undertalked about guitar player. I love his style. I'd call his soloing feel style (which is typically my favorite) but that's just me.

You're so right about his soloing style. He improvises every solo. He never plays it the same twice. That's why he feels it so much, he expresses the emotions he is feeling in that instance through his guitar playing. It's amazing to watch.

Lou Barlow is a great bassist, even better guitarist, and even better singer. Sebadoh is my all time favorite band Barlow is in. Folk Implosion is great too, but honestly, the stuff where Lou sings is the best.
There was a time when J. and Lou had a falling-out, but they eventually reconciled and reformed Dino Jr. -- good thing they did!

Something about J’s voice. At first listen you think there’s not much to it, but damn it’s perfect.
They are just incredible. Such a cool track. Saw DJ live this week in Bristol, J speaks more at the beginning of this video than he did the whole gig. Legend.

i thought he said "Amy, watch the corners" I thought holy shit J mentioned someone in a song. "Hey ME ! ofcourse. my favorite band ever. they were all mine for years. Now they are getting repect. seen them over 20 times and the fog with Mike Watt which was a highlight. J has to be one of the top guitarists out there, pardon the pun. top twenty ever.

J said in a recent interview that he didn't know how to palm mute until "about 2 years ago". You can see here that that riff is not palm muted even though it sounds like it hahahaha.

Palm mutes were like the first thing I learned, my pfp is also op ivy tho so maybe that explains it.
Think it's palm muted on record but he avoids it live; if he's worried about his technique being sloppy then that probably makes sense.
@@DavySolaris if you listen to watch the corners, i just realized that it's one track played normally and another track layered below it which is all left-hand muting and that's why it sounds palm muted

They come naturally when you feel It inside you....of course when you have gained much experience to dont have to think about the riythm part when playing,Is not Rocket science unfortunatly so i cant help you more than this

I can barely hear the bass, considering this is Dinosaur Jr. the levels of the bass are too low. Barlow's bass has always been as loud as J's guitar.
