    Just a reminder: As always, this is a silent video with subtitles. Please turn on the video captions for my notes and comments.

    would be cool to see if you could make a bone tipped spear for hunting or fishing

      I may do that sometime. But since primitive hunting and spear fishing aren't legal where I live, I'm not in a particular hurry - not while I still have plenty of project ideas whose results I will be able to actually use. :-)

    When Raid shadow legends doesn’t sponsor, make your own adze! ;)

    What's next? Bone flute, because that'd be quite the sight! As always, great work!
    Ps: And don't forget to put the card that leads to other videos at the beginning 😉

      You can bet that I've been thinking about bone flutes a lot! :-) Problem is, all the bones of a suitable size that I've found so far have at least one crack along their length (this is apparently normal when they dry out, unless you take precautions to prevent it). And cracked flutes don't sound good, I've been told. So this will have to wait a bit longer. In the meantime, I keep myself busy experimenting with elderberry flutes.
      Is the card to the bone tools video not displaying for you? I just tested it and it worked as intended.

      @@MakeItPrimitive Well, I'll be waiting for the flute video! Have you thought of making some kind of plaster than you can later make holes in or maybe that doesn't work, you're more knowledgeable on the subject than I am!
      And for the card, maybe it isn't working because I'm on mobile, will have to check later of my PC!

    Great video. Love this channel. What did you use to make the axe head at the end there?

    • @MakeItPrimitive
      @MakeItPrimitive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! The head is limestone, the handle willow. I made a similar, slightly bigger one in this video: th-cam.com/video/oToVVk0NWmo/w-d-xo.html

      @@seansmart2756 Let me know how it turned out! :-) In case you haven't seen it already, here's another video of mine, with a "shootout" of my three celt axes so far: th-cam.com/video/-QzF7Ym99EU/w-d-xo.html

    Did the edge dull after you tested the adze?

      It’s been my experience that bone isn’t a good resource for crafting woodworking tools.

    • @MakeItPrimitive
      @MakeItPrimitive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It did after a while, but it's also resharpened quickly. It seems to work well for softer woods; in one of my recent videos, I used it to hollow out a piece of birch greenwood to make a bowl. A stone adze would be better, but around here it's pretty much all limestone (which is quite soft, too) and a very crumbly, coarse granite, so I 'm trying out alternative materials. But bone chisels for woodworking were used a lot (pre-)historically, judging by the many specimens that have been found all over the world.

      @@MakeItPrimitive I didn’t even know harder minerals were rare where you live, but it is pretty unique how you are able to find alternatives for making tools. Is flint also rare where you live? I know that grounded down flint celts are pretty reliable.

      Also as a side note have you ever considered working with copper? It’s of course something that takes a bit to learn about, however it is surprisingly a tough metal. It’s been my experience that copper ,much like bone or stone, is not able to a prolonged cutting edge.

      @@gabeerspamer3979 No flint, but but a bit of chert occasionally (I have a video on knapping the local chert if you're interested). I have two pieces right now that might become small adzes, but they will need a lot of grinding before I can use them.
