Dennis, most of the ORCA guys I know consider all spinning reels to be modern reels. My reason for using and collecting only spinning reels is because I am legally blind and cannot see when my rig or lure hits the water. Without seeing that you basically have two choices - always casting with your thumb on the spool or tightening the reel to the point that you don’t get many “bird’s nests”. Doing those things dramatically limits distance and even accuracy. I am 60% blind with only peripheral vision left. With that limitation I use only spinning reels that rarely if ever backlash or get wind knots. My preference if to use reels from ny collection that are often 40 to even 70 years old. I personally have trouble calling a 70 year-old spinning reel “modern” but I guess when compared to how far back fishing reels actually go in history I can understand this position. I love videos like this - keep it up. We always learn something new when you answer questions. That’s why I always reed your comment section! - Chris
Thanks again Chris - Yes, I know you needed to reluctantly give up and sell the Abu 7000 to go with he spinning reel. No shame there! You have quite the collection - best wishes for continued great fishing with your"modern" reels
3:36 Dennis you should get sponsored for making a Dennis Antibacklash Casting Conversion! BTW as far as I know the Penn Mag 970/980/990 shares the internal mechanics with the Senator reels, so yes it's a sort of casting conversion. Hello from 🇮🇹
Dennis you and I are on the same page on early Reels I love using my old Knucklebusters and Mitchells and Closedface Reels , Thanks for a great video .
I would like to know where you can get the brass flat nut that go under the reel on a spin reel can’t find them and not sure exactly what you call them.
I think you are referring to the rotor nut and most need to be ordered by the model that you have and through the manufacturer or their authorized parts sellers - Thanks - Dennis

I agree - those early reels were built to last Bobby
About to service a couple of Japanese reels, do I use JIS screwdriver? Thanks for all the support you offer via this channel, Dennis.
I use Japanese industry standard screw driver a lot . I pay attention for how it fits the screw . Sometimes i find the JIS fits nicer .
You can usually get away with a flat blade or Phillips screw drive if the fit is tight. You will probably not need the JIS for your projects - Dennis
I work for a engineering company so I can made drag washer from carbon and franelik
Great! Thanks for sharing
