These bait companies kill me with the Ned rig lol. Why would anyone buy a short piece of soft plastic at the same price as a 6” or 7” bag of stick baits Or worms? Marketing man! Look take your stick baits or trick worms and cut it down! Same thing and save money. And too take a shaky head hook with or without a twist lock and just use that like a Ned rig, BOOM saved money again!. Some may disagree but I am not wasting my money on a little bitty hook and that little bitty bait when I can make that out of stuff I already have lol. God bless brother love the videos!
I can't believe you didn't include the zman color "The Deal". It will get bit in any situation. I agree with almost everything you mentioned but ....do not overlook "the deal"
Last year, I really just started using the ned rig. I combined that with trying to get out of my comfort zone and do more offshore stuff up at Alum Creek on the kayak. Caught my PB smallmouth doing just that, and got hooked. Now I can't get enough! Good video, thanks!
Fellow Ohioan! Have never caught anything at alum Creek. I feel like the bass play with me there. Just got a kayak so hopeing to change that this spring.
Hey Tyler , I have a suggestion/question for another video . I was wondering if you would be willing/able to do a video on dissecting on how to fish reservoirs(where to fish for that time of year, what most of the forage is, what depths to target , what structure to look for etc) I appreciate all the videos and tips you put out . I watch and take my own personal notes from your videos and do damage on lakes by me . Keep up the great work !
You should look into pouring your own jigs. It really saved me money. You can order any style of hook or powder coat paint that you want. I really enjoy the process and it saves me money.
@@Beadfishing that's a really good idea, as expensive as everything is getting now. $10 for a War Eagle spinner bait at Walmart. I may start making those as well
How many people were all ready to hit “dislike” without even watching the video? “How dare he speak ill of the Ned!” Great colourway insights Ty, thanks for the thorough breakdown!
I like to cut my zman bang stickz in half, gives me a 2.75" TRD and a 3" hula stick. That's 12 baits in a pack compared to 8 trds in a normal pack. Well almost in half, you get the picture.
Solid recommendation ! - My Z-man availability is limited locally, unless I take the 1H drive to my nearest BPS. This gives the prefect reasoning to go
Yes make a video on making your jig heads. I've been pouring my own for crappie for over 30 years, but now I want to expand my arsenal. I'm going to start pouring my own drop shot weights also because I go thru alot of them fishing rockpiles
Excellent video!!! Had much success with the Yoga Pants, Bubble Gut & PB&J. Would love to see a video on making the ned rig jig head. Planning to start making my own over the winter. Stay Safe & God Bless!!
Can't wait to sight fish in a couple months here in Ohio. I think when the fish are on the beds, the key is getting them aggravated enough to not eat, but pick up the bait to move it and spit it out, and bubble gum is one of those colors that seems to really get under their skin.
ZMan makes very good lures, but they are hard to store, and hard to keep from melting. I'm not sure what they make their baits out of, but I love my ZMan chatter bait and trailers. You just can't mix/put them in a box. They have to stay separate!
I remember when I was 12 and took up fly fishing. Everything I needed fit in a 5" x 8" pouch my mom made. Small box of flies, tippet, swiss army knife.
Zman baits last longer and give the proper presentation. I use standard 1/8th oz jigheads with superglue. That weight gets the bait to the bottom quickly and stay down there regardless of current. Color depends on water clarity first, then forage.
The midwest finesse guys like the OG mushroom jigs which Zman has begun selling the last 2 years. They use 3 sizes, 1/32, 1/16, and 3/32 ounces. I would like to see your jigheads up close with more detail on the shape and colors and the hook styles you use. I assume you use powder paint?
Sup. Great video. I'm still trying to master the Ned rig. I have my plastics made locally, when a curly tail worm or sanco worm get beat up I cut them and try on Ned rig. I used to buy Ned rig worms in store but I just waste money. I usually try Ned rig to learn but end up going to drop shot? But I keep trying. Ty tc
Dang, really was hoping you didn't say bubble guts , they are hard to find as it is lol started using bubbleguts a few years ago when we were on the Caney Fork river and my buddy was killing me catching 5 to my 1 on the BGs , got about twenty packs when I found them in stock , another color I love if I'm in a smallmouth water is coppertreuesse , had some epic days on Dale Hollow with those, heres a tip if you haven't already tried it , Zman trick shotz, they are deadly on a ned rig
What about other ned options, not just straight TRDs... for example the Tickler or the Hawgz? Are they worth it? When would you use them over the TRD? Or do you limit it to a TRD if you are throwing a NED, otherwise throw a creature bait, tube, finesse jig, etc?
Finally, a fisherman realizes that a dark brown, blue, or black plastic bait mimics a leech! I think you are the first one to state this. Regarding the Bubble Gut color, I have had good success with this one as well. I never tried it with a Ned, but a plastic worm in this color works well; likely because it mimics an actual earthworm so accurately.
I've been throwing ned rigs here and there during times and conditions that I'm supposed to be (calm - summer / winter - deep if possible) and I haven't caught a single fish yet with one. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go in with search baits first or if I'm just doing something wrong
I’ve been trying to tie together notes on depth, location, retrieve, and lure for each season. Then I’ll have to reorganize my tackle and scout for access to the right types of locations for this time of year. There’s a lot to it. If I ever catch a bass, I’ll probably have thought all the fun out of it.
Idk man. Like you said bass fishing is one big experiment. I don’t think there is much science to it. I think black and blue flake or green pumpkins, white and chartreuse. You can put these colors in your pockets and catch fish
Why do they not make plain pumpkinseed and watermelon seed any more? And cotton candy. And smoke and amok/blue? Those are awesome colors in any water clarity. Cotton candy is better in clearer water and smoke but I catch a lot of fish on those colors. I used to catch lots of quality size fish on 4 1/2” culprit blue blood. I can only find 7 1/2” ones online.
Tyler, What are the main conditions that drive using the Ned? Im getting ready to fish a tournament on a tidal river here in SC in a couple of weeks. It could likely be the coldest water temps I’ve my ever fished and chocolate milk. Rarely do I we see water below 50 degrees. This river is frequently muddy, but water is already in the 40s and 11 of the next 13 nights will be in the 20s. Often times in cold water I will fish deep for our waters and downsize. Within water so muddy and high, I’m thinking I need bulk and that fish will move to shallow hard objects. Just wondering…is a Ned a challenge to find in muddy water? Am I wrong to think it’s more of a downsized, visual concept that is maybe more productive when the bait is small? Just trying to better understand when to downsize or upsize? I know lots of factors need to be considered.
I’m sorry but who are you that your information would matter to me? What are your credentials? If you’re fishing in one of the Bass leagues which one and how many times have you won? I’m not trying to be a smart ass here. Where do you fish and do your tips translate to fishing waters all across the Nation or a specific geography that your Bass tournament follows?
Z-Man TRDs - rebrand.ly/k2pn7pg
I love watching videos about making you’re own lures and jigs.
These bait companies kill me with the Ned rig lol. Why would anyone buy a short piece of soft plastic at the same price as a 6” or 7” bag of stick baits Or worms? Marketing man! Theyre less dense for specific action. That's part of the whole concept of ned rigs. Though I don't know how much difference it makes.
I can't believe you didn't include the zman color "The Deal". It will get bit in any situation. I agree with almost everything you mentioned but ....do not overlook "the deal"
I agree on the deal color! It so much resembles the bluegills in the MN lake I fish, both pike and bass eat my trds, goatz, and minnowz in that color.
Also you can use your leftover worms and trim them down to the size of a ned. Works great too.
Definitely would like to see, how to pour your rigs: ned heads, soft baits etc
Last year, I really just started using the ned rig. I combined that with trying to get out of my comfort zone and do more offshore stuff up at Alum Creek on the kayak. Caught my PB smallmouth doing just that, and got hooked. Now I can't get enough! Good video, thanks!
Fellow Ohioan! Have never caught anything at alum Creek. I feel like the bass play with me there. Just got a kayak so hopeing to change that this spring.
I wanna see the Ned pouring! I’ve been considering trying it myself and wouldn’t mind seeing it done.
Good video. Watermelon red and pbj are my go tos. Watermelon for sun, pbj for the rest. I agree, I can’t figure out what pbj works but it does.
Hey Tyler , I have a suggestion/question for another video . I really like this video series BUT everytime I watch one money seems to fly out of my checking account 🤔🤔🤔
I feel you with that one haha😂😂😂
You should look into pouring your own jigs. It really saved me money. You can order any style of hook or powder coat paint that you want. I really enjoy the process and it saves me money.

Love this video!! I'd love to see you pour some ned heads! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Black is such an under-rated color in all styles of worms.
Excellent video!!! Had much success with the Yoga Pants, Bubble Gut & PB&J. Would love to see a video on making the ned rig jig head. Planning to start making my own over the winter. Stay Safe & God Bless!!
I use the coppertreuse trd and always catch nice bass.
It would be great to see your method for making DIY Ned Heads.
You’re exactly right about the green pumpkin and GP Goby for smallmouth, those 2 destroy the smallmouth on lake Saint Clair every spring!
Love this little series very informative thanks Tyler!
Can't wait to sight fish in a couple months here in Ohio. I think when the fish are on the beds, the key is getting them aggravated enough to not eat, but pick up the bait to move it and spit it out, and bubble gum is one of those colors that seems to really get under their skin.

Facts. Florida is a great place to throw June Bug and Coppertreuse!
I remember when I was 12 and took up fly fishing.
Everything I needed fit in a 5" x 8" pouch my mom made.
Small box of flies, tippet, swiss army knife.
Threw a pumpkin chartreuse colored NED rig here in WV last summer and caught tons on it. NED rigs work awesome.
Zman baits last longer and give the proper presentation. I use standard 1/8th oz jigheads with superglue. That weight gets the bait to the bottom quickly and stay down there regardless of current.
Color depends on water clarity first, then forage.
Z-man soft baits are made for nurds and newbs.

Yes, I need to know how to make my own ned rig jigs.
Really like the way you break this down. Learning alot from you. Thank you for sharing..
Love the coppertruese color
Would love to see a video on how you pour your jig heads
Love see Ned rig making vid..... Let's go!!!!
Ty tc
👍 Your recycling trick. I met a guy who was using short slices of a bass worm, and he was catching really nice trout.
Thank you as usual. Good stuff.
Awesome vid so far have not finished full thing super excited
Yoga pants and PBJ, two of life’s greatest creations
Thanks for another vid havent missed one in yrs
Gene Larew Ned Inch worm has been amazing for me this past year
What about other ned options, not just straight TRDs... for example the Tickler or the Hawgz? Are they worth it? When would you use them over the TRD? Or do you limit it to a TRD if you are throwing a NED, otherwise throw a creature bait, tube, finesse jig, etc?
Personally I just limit it to the TRD. But sometimes they actually want a bigger 4in instead of the 2.75in
I would like to know when you fish the 4” trd. ? Do you wacky rig it?
Hey bub hope it’s going well. Any advice on neko rigs? I wanna practice that one this year
Let's see a Ned head making video! Think would be nice to see you change it up a little bit.
Ya dude I wanna see every piece of your fishing life
Caught my PB smallie on that green pumkin goby 4” cut down a little 🔥
😲
Yoga pants trd sometimes is the only color I can get them on.
That Hot Craw (Okeechobee Craw) is a good Bluegill representation.
Finally, a fisherman realizes that a dark brown, blue, or black plastic bait mimics a leech! I think you are the first one to state this. I never tried it with a Ned, but a plastic worm in this color works well; likely because it mimics an actual earthworm so accurately.
Nice. Our LM's love Canada Craw and our Spots kill the GPG
Thanks
Let’s see it. Show a video of making ned heads.
Thanks for the great info!!
I have a question for you I love using the Merthiolate trick worm during the pre-spawn to spawn do you think the bubble gum is better
I am very partial to both of those colors. I typically will use the bubble gum in clear water and the methiolate in off color water
I need to throw the ned more
I've been throwing ned rigs here and there during times and conditions that I'm supposed to be (calm - summer / winter - deep if possible) and I haven't caught a single fish yet with one. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go in with search baits first or if I'm just doing something wrong

Impressive videos you make for us. You have knowledge thank you
make me some ned heads got to see it
The first bass I ever caught was green pumpkin ned
Lure companies make lures to catch fisherman not fish.
I use senkos cut in half for Ned rigs. Works great. Your welcome.
Great, I only have hot craw out of all those. Now I have to spend more money...🙃😂
Is it strange that I’ve caught almost as many catfish as I have bass on a ned rig?
yes lets see it!!!!!!!
Love your videos. Thank you, what county in Ohio do you reside? I'm in Medina County. Keep up the great videos.
i would love to see how you pour your jigheads!
show us your way of making ned jigs
Idk man. Like you said bass fishing is one big experiment. I don’t think there is much science to it. I think black and blue flake or green pumpkins, white and chartreuse. You can put these colors in your pockets and catch fish
im fishing griggs/scioto in ohio what one would you use around this area
Love griggs! Bubble gut and yoga pants
Need the jig pouring vid
The Twilight color TRD is ignorantly good on Largemouth and Smallmouth both...they destroy this color full sun or overcast, dark or clear water.
Hell yeah I wanna see you pour your jig heads!! Has that video been made? Please drop me a link in the replies people 🙏🏻
If you are not using a TRD TW Delta exclusively @ Tackle Warehouse you are really missing the best Ned rig in clear water.
Placed order for 5 different colors.....thank you
Why do they not make plain pumpkinseed and watermelon seed any more? And cotton candy. And smoke and amok/blue? Those are awesome colors in any water clarity. Cotton candy is better in clearer water and smoke but I catch a lot of fish on those colors. I used to catch lots of quality size fish on 4 1/2” culprit blue blood. Cut a 7.5 into two 3.75’s or one 4.5 and two 1.5s. Use the 1.5s for crappie.
Why wouldn't you use a Ned rig in Florida?
I’ve never seen a purple and green junebug.
Tyler,
What are the main conditions that drive using the Ned?

It's Yoga Pant because they can't use Lulumon without being sued.
Good video as always, just not sure how this is simplifying colors when 5+ were named. Also, thanks for not mentioning the best color of all :)
Threw the Ned when they came out
Does it save money to pour your own heads?
Yes definitely so. But you’ll have to invest a little money on the front end
I’ve been using green pumpkin/orange in Tennessee give it a shot
You can just use cheap jig heads woth the smaller thin wire hooks instead of paying for over priced ned heads
I fish ned rigs 80% of the time, easily out fish everyone on the boat that's not using ned rigs.
You need to simplify how many colors you carry. Here’s the 80 I use. 😂
I get bubble guts after eating Taco Bell 😂
Awesome video ++
I still don't understand fishing for bass on their beds, even though in many areas it's allowed!!
POUR THE NEDS
Yoga pants are my favorite too
Purpose of this video was to simplify your colors then proceeds to recommend every color trd and 1 googan?
The Googan Rattling Ned SUCKS!!!! It doesn't float!!! Just buy some rattles and add them to the Z man TRD or even the YUM Ned Dinger.
👍
I’m sorry but who are you that your information would matter to me? What are your credentials? If you’re fishing in one of the Bass leagues which one and how many times have you won? I’m not trying to be a smart ass here. Where do you fish and do your tips translate to fishing waters all across the Nation or a specific geography that your Bass tournament follows?
I don't want to waste money
I'm new to fishing so this is interesting, but just looks like a fat worm cut in half to me
No less than 25 cases in the beginning of the video. Please explain simplify.
Pour the heads
Bro how is Coppertruse not in you ned colors list!! Easily their best color, all fish seem to smoke that color in all water clarities.
Todd that is about her fantastic color that I really need to fish more!
