You did Jet Black proud there, Dereck. The Stranglers and King Crimson were the first bands I really got into. I love the free EP with 'Back & White' which has 'Walk on By' on it. Lovely memories.
Black and White was The Muffins’ introduction to The Stranglers. We absorbed it before we went into the studio to record . Inspirational to a band that was looking for change.
Great video and a wonderfully insightful tribute to Jet. The Stranglers for me are such a unique, intelligent - yet rough sounding band and all 4 were great musicians. Jet and Dave now reunited wherever they may be! I think Wilko Johnson may be having a jam with them no matter what!
Wow, Man you know your stuff, word for word you are spot on with your comments on the stranglers. I could sit down with you in a bar and talk all night with you. Just regarding the Black and White album, is it hard to find on A@M on black vinyl? Once again i loved upload. 😊
Hey Dereck, Sad to hear of the passing of BRUCE ARNOLD. I remember in "68 the song "CAN"T FIND THE TIME TO TELL YOU" by ORPHEUS was played a lot on the radio around here. I liked it and went and bought the lp which I believe was there first and I liked the whole thing. Never bought anything by the STRANGLERS but I remember back in the 80"s when I was working in this small print shop, we would all bring in cassettes of our own music to listen to. And everybody seemed to have different tastes in music so it was a lot of fun listening to all types of music. Now this one guy loved punk or stuff similar, and one day we are listening to one of his tapes and the song WALK ON BY comes on, and since I of course being so familiar with the song I asked him who it was by because I absolutely loved this version and I think he said (remember this was some time ago, so I might be wrong) the STRANGLERS. Take care Dereck
Good Afternoon Dereck, I also didn't think the Stranglers were punk, Rock yes, but Punk? What a great track "Nuclear Device is" Sits well within the album "Life in The European Theater" Every track is a Monster on that LP There is also an Australian Aboriginal connection right there on the front cover "Dreamtime" Its how white fellas back 200 years ago here in OZ interpreted Aboriginal spiritual stories. The white people couldn't come to grips with those, so they come up with: Dreamtime and the term stuck. And yes, music makes life better. Go well.
The Stranglers were great , definitely not punk but a harder edge pop band and a very good one . Not sure if it ever happened but I bet a Blondie / Stranglers show would have been killer back in the day . I don't know why but the stranglers always pop into my head when I hear the song "pretty baby" from parallel lines Edit forgot the "not"
Golden Brown IS a classic. In Germany, the other (minor) hits were: Skin Deep. And: Always the Sun. The Song Midnight Summer Dream on Feline strongly reminds me of Flash & the Pan. My favorite song by the Stranglers is: My frickle resolve. I also agree: The Stranglers are not Punk.
There's a very interesting multi-part article about the Finchley Boys, a group of The Stranglers hardcore fans who traveled with them wherever they played. Playing pubs and small venues in late 70s in England involved lots of brawls and serious violence and these guys were loyal and dedicated. The song Dagenham Dave was dedicated to one of them(i think he had some mental issues and committed suicide). If you can find it, It's a very interesting story to read.
Dave was an original Stranglers fan; the Finchleys came a bit later, resulting in Dave taking on all the boys at the 100 club. A draw! Dangerous times. Walk on by. Lost Nik from Hawkwind, Wilko & now Jet. God bless you Jet....thanks Dereck. Great album Feline.
Stranglers were the first gig I saw, at Hammersmith Odeon. After Feline they didn't do anything good. I agree MenInBlack is a great album and doesn't get much recognition.

I've enjoyed your videos for years, Dereck. Nice mention of "Who Wants The World?" Great song.
Rip jet black & dave Greenfield.
Rattus norvegicus one of my favourite albums in my collection. Great debut.

Rest in peace, Jet Black. The Stranglers are the best!
Well said sir. The Stranglers have a special place in my music life and thankfully that music will live on. Peace.
Love The Stranglers! So unique. Cornwell still going strong.
Osibisa and The Stranglers, riches indeed!
Great video thank you for sharing
Golden Brown is hypnotic. I discovered it on a compilation album when I was about 13 years old and it is still one of my favorite songs

Great that you have all those singles - I have a 10 cd single box set but I’d love to have them on wax
