Tom Mullica was something else. I saw him on tv thirty-odd years ago and his act stayed in my mind ever since. Maybe all the best magicians should make you ask 'not how, but why?'
Back when I was working with Joe Stevens I got to meet the great Tom Mullica who was one of the funniest magicians that I ever knew. I got to see him perform at the Tom Foolery in Buckhead in Atlanta Georgia. I even parked my truck right across the street from his place. I couldn't believe I could get so lucky. He was a great friend after that and went on to perform in Las Vegas. I have had some very lucky moments in my life and meeting Tom Mullica was one of them.
I just find out about the existence of a crazy talented genius and at the same time finding out he was dead :( . RIP Tom. Your act is the craziest and most talented i've ever seen.

yes i just heard, i found it weird ^^ Glad i'm not the one one to have heard it haha I guess most people with headphones will hear it. It's so faint, distant.
He was born in '48, served in the army for a few years, performed tricks like the ones in the video for over 10 years and now he's still alive and performing magic while also being a CEO.
From Wikipedia, if anybody's interested: "On February 15, 2016, Mullica was placed in an induced coma following complications stemming from a routine hernia operation, which caused him to have several strokes. He subsequently suffered from organ and liver failure. On February 18, it was decided to take Mullica off life support.[9] He was 67 years of age."
Heard there is no secret technique behind the cigarette trick. Tom was clearly in too much pain and had to finish this as soon as possible and yet still maintained his act. Fucking LEGED!
The trick happens at 5:00 when he asks «you want one?», people start laughing, they get distracted (and disgusted about the whole thing), and then, he does that quick move where he shoves another napkin in his mouth while with the same hand, he gets all the ciggs out and put them down. It's incredibly fast
Exactly at 5:03 right when he starts rapidly putting napkin in his mouth is when he drops all cigarettes and napkins in his right hand. Very clean almost impossible to see :)
Actually, no he didn't. Tom Mullica is alive and well and continues to do his Red Skelton tribute show as well as delighting magicians and audiences everywhere.
Best act I ever witnessed and Letterman has little appreciation for it from the beginning but finally realized just how rude he was actually being by the end of it.
this guy's still alive and is now perfectly well, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 but overcome it quite quickly and is now fine and still working. Just goes to show, you can smoke shit loads and be fine into your later years or never smoke and die of cancer at the age of 20, some people are lucky, others aren't, smoking doesn't change that.
+matt Sure but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do the best we can. Besides, even if you could get away with all the health woes, who wants to stink like cigarettes and waste thousands of dollars a year?
Why is everone saying he ruined it? He made a few sarcastic remarks, played the seemingly clueless sidekick that many magicians like to have. I guess they have rehearsed it and both performed like they both thought it fit.
+seth Jim I'm a day late and a dollar short. :( I just learned about Mr Mullica today, one day after his passing. At least we are truly lucky to be able to enjoy his amazing performances here online forever. In the digital age where everything is done with editing and computers the real talent of someone doing actual illusions live is something that is fading away. I hope he had a full and wonderful life. My thoughts are with his family and friends. The world lost a little bit of magic yesterday.
I doubt it he's just that good I don't know how seen it many times not just on letterman maybe some one that's very good at magic top notch magicians would know

me too. I saw this over 35 years ago and been looking for it again ever since lol
_“Thirty-odd”_ years ago? Really? In print? Who are you performing for?
Dave: "good Lord"
Tom: "Iam just a magician"
There's a no smoking sign just before Tom entered. lol so ironic.
good catch lol
Great magician, funny as hell and actor too.
Tom Mullica the one and only
Do you burn yourself doing that?
"Mm hmm."
lmao xD

and anyone with natural talent

Hard disagree. His timing was spot on w Tom imo
