I added some more infos in the description, but I'm going to fix 2 "mistakes" I said in FF3. First, when I state that the Warrior had a "big HP pool", it's not entirely correct. Your HP were the same even when you changed jobs, BUT the "Vitality" stat was responsible for increasing your max HP WHEN LEVELING UP, and it wasn't the same for each job, the Warrior having a rather high amount of Vitality compared to others. Secondly, about the skill Provoke: I said that the "target is more likely to attack the Viking that provoked it". Except that's wrong, if Provoke succeeded, the target will ALWAYS attack the Viking, it's the % of chance of actually Provoking that was increased by the job level. Sorry for the "fake news" :p
@2:10 Sadly the devs screwed up the INT stat in the original FF to where it did nothing hindering mages and making the Warrior that much more op'd. In the rom hack patches with a working INT stat mages become invaluable in the original FF.
That's also why you'd rather take a Red Mage in your team if you "REALLY" needed to kill one of those monsters with high physical defense, because Red Mage could still benefit A TON from equipments and be a good physical "dps". Maybe the fact that the default team was "Warrior, Thief, Monk and Red Mage" was a hint from the devs ^^' Or they just screwed up everything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
