YES, like when your are playing as ellie and kill owen, you don't fucking care about that guy, you dont even know him, is the same thing with jesse. In abby's eyes he dosen't mean anything.
Jessy yes this is a really good point. The one thing is that Owen was in the room while they killed Joel so maybe Ellie remembered like we did and cared even less. Jesse was totally not a part of anything
The dual perspectives make this game for me. I totally get why people despise Abby, but when you only look through her eyes it's easy to see Ellie as the villain.
It's weird to have two different perspectives on Jesse's death with the different points of view of the characters. When you play Ellie, his death seems brutal and dramatic. While from Abby's point of view it seems quick, like he's just a simple NPC who get killed.
Just like Tommy did with Manny, it really highlights the fragility of us humans especially in the game's context. One moment you're ok and the next you're gone.
Man this was one of my favorite scenes. The first time that you see it from Ellie's POV is so crazy. Considering you haven't seen Abby in like half the game I didn't even really remember what she looked like and the fact that she's there out of nowhere and freaking kills Jesse is so intense.
There are no heroes in the post apocalypse. Everyone pretty much became animals until Ellie and Abby both allowing each other to live, showing there is still humanity inside and how both of their quests for revenge only led to more death and suffering for both
whats funny is if abby killed tommy and ellie nothing bad wouldve happened later however, not likewise, if ellie DIDNT kill abby’s friends then abby wouldnt try to kill ellie its funny how all abby needed to be tougher whole ellie needed to be softer
You know one thing I noticed about the story is that Ellie doesn’t know why Abby kill Joel. Ellie is out for revenge and very emotional about the whole situation. Ellie doesn’t know that Joel killed Abby’s dad when he took Ellie out of the hospital. Abby had no reason to kill Ellie and Tommy after she captured both of them the fist time because vengeance was all she was worried about. One part of the game when you’re with Dina in a random dialogue she bring up the question “why didn’t She kill you and Tommy she had a chance” but Ellie cut her off and said “she fucked up!” The second time they met (the theater) Abby had the gun pointed at Tommy Ellie said “there’s no cure because of me I’m the one you want” Abby didn’t care about the cure it was the fact that her dad was killed but during the theater confrontation Abby did have a reason now to kill Ellie after she killed all her friends. They both suffered from Joel actions in their own ways.
To me that was just badly written to prevent to give Abby's motive away to the player. Why exactly didn't Abby tell Ellie why she killed Joel? Neither in the cabin when she is about to kill him, nor in the theather when Ellie brought this topic up. And then she wonders why Ellie came after her for revenge? After she herself was on a vendetta for years? Come on...
Of course they need to kill the best ones but fucking Abby needs survive and ok I am forgive man! I gave a second chance many people if they want really change but one girl raped my girlfriend and I would never forgive her, I want to kill her, I know that I can't and of course I'm not gonna do that but she needs to be killed in my opinion, just like Abby should be killed after everything she did.
It’s interesting to see the different perspectives on Ellie giving herself up. She emphasizes being immune and the reason this whole story was set in motion, but after spending three days with Abby, Ellie saying this almost seems completely irrelevant to Abby being pissed at that moment. I’m not the biggest fan of the story but I do like seeing these interesting perspectives.
I've liked it more if this game was Ellie and Tommy, tbh. I'm ok with the way Joel died, he had it coming... The end? I would have loved the choice to "let it go" or "get revenge". I get what they tried to do with this game. If this was a movie, seeing the "villain's" perspective wouldn't be such a big deal... i guess a minority had some issues with playing it?
personally I think Abby's side would have worked better as a DLC than part of the main story, that way we would have a better focus on Ellie's journey in the main game

Yes, and he went on to ruin Ellie's life by roping her back into revenge to chase after Abby, where as a result she lost everything and the happy life she'd built with Dina. If Tommy hadn't shown up to guilt trip her into going after Abby again, Abby would have died anyway and Ellie would have had a happy life that Joel would have wanted for her.

@@carrastealth Thing is, Tommy is broken. When you're at a emotional broken state you're incapable of behaving reasonable. Tommy lost his brother the only blood related person left in the world(and from first game we know Joel always been the big brother and take care of him since they were kids, so despite the resentment he have for Joel he immediately accept him when they meet again). When he's still emotional stable he try to let it go. But seeing his adopted niece's sorrow he made this decision. Then he lost an eye and is crippled, his wife leave him. When you're done grieving you're usually filled with anger instead. There is no psychiatrist in the post apocalyptic world. Before it's Ellie who can not let go, but now it's Tommy who lost everything now. The contrast is here Tommy lost everything, Ellie got new family a new "everything". Tommy got no closure from anyone, even the one who suppose to share his pain( Ellie) are abandoning him. I'm not saying what he did in this video is acceptable, it's just that the man is broken. If anything Ellie should help Tommy through his grief/anger and should act as bridge between him and Maria. But I suppose since Ellie is broken too, she's also not capable of doing that at the moment. It's very depressing.

It makes no sense for her to have left Ellie alive knowing who she is. To have tortured Joel like that. Maybe it does. I cant get over the motion capture and acting its really incredible I could watch this all day. The score is brilliant too that pulsing in the background that just gets more energetic as the characters get more angry. I love this game its really amazing.

I am not attached to the characters like other people. There are loads of reasons I love the game. The story is about two woman who want revenge and will stop at nothing to get it, even if it means losing everything. Its a story about blind hatred.

I’ll have to admit the game has it best moments when Ellie, Jessie, Tommy, & Joel all have great interactions. It’s cute and funny!! But Abby ....... yeah I got nothing.
From the parts where you play as abby the only thing I kinda enjoyed was lev and yara and their whole thing, but tbh I'm probably biased on that. Otherwise the whole thing just felt like a slap to the face

I don't understand why people think Abby's body is unrealistic. In real life exist women that have more muscles than her without any asteroids. It's possible. Honestly, This game made me pull a 180. In the beginning I liked Ellie and hated Abby... But as the game went on I started hating Ellie and liking Abby.
I actually like both of them and I love how Naughty Dog played with emotions. The death of one side character is meaningless to one yet a ginormous kick in the guts for the other one. Plus, during the whole game, Ellie is doing exactly what Abby did. They aren't that different after all.
I like them both but I prefer Abby. However, with that said I acknowledge that neither are heroes or good guys. Abby is a military trained killing machine and Ellie is psychotic serial murderer.
Besides the graphics, voice acting, improved gameplay and the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie, the story which is a big factor in a game like the last of us is bad and above that poorly executed. They try and make u feel for a character like Abby who I personally and I'm sure others agree don't care about. Sure the concept of the story is reasonable but it's like it's just not meant to be and on top of that written badly which makes it feel even more wrong and stupid. Not to mention the dry death of Jesse which was a cool new character to me personally.

Agree. For me personally the story seems unoriginal and cliche for the Last of us title. Ellie kills so many people in order to find Abby but then doesn't kill her because revenge is a bad thing as we are told all the time. This is a plot that I have seen so many times already in other games and movies that it's just annoying by this point . It almost always has an unsatisfying conclusion. And yeah they tried to make Abby a sympathetic character but I just wanted her dead the whole time.

They missed a golden chance her for ellie to snap back at abby after she said ellie killed her friends. Dude you are answering your questions. That is the point of the game that in an apocalyptic world there are no good and bad people. We want Joel to be the hero but he had done bad things too. We need to wait the HBO serie and see Joel past when he ambushed innocence people and behave more like a Negan. People even forget how Tommy hated him for all the things he did in his past.

Joel kills Abby’s dad to save ellie. Ripping a loved one away. Abby kills Joel to avenge her dad. Ripping a loved one away. Ellie kills abby’s friends to find her. Ripping away more loved ones Abby kills Jessie, wounds tommy and almost kills Dina to get to Ellie. More loved ones nearly ripped away I know my opinion is gonna be unpopular because this is the internet, but I think the conclusion of neither of them being able to kill each other in the end because they realize they’d only get a day or two of satisfaction while their loved ones are forever lost to them was done well enough. Sure some players might sleep easy at night if Ellie went through with her mission, but the character herself would likely have to live with the regrets way down the line. Even in her own final moments. There’s no good or evil. Both are Grey. Both are human. Both acted the way they did for a reason and knew when enough was enough.

Cyber Flame I agree completely, both characters suffered a lot due to revenge, and most of their loved one paid the price for it, no only With Death, but With severing bondings and relationships. And at the end both saw that there was no point in still fighting because they've lost almost everything, Abby didn't want to fight, Ellie started the fight because of her PTSD driven her to it and realized it was useless, nothing will bring Joel back (we have to take into account that this cycle of vengeance started With Joel killing the doctor out of selfish love for her surrogate daughter, because the doctor wanted to kill Ellie out for his obsession to get a vaccine With no assurance that it would work) And she ended the violence cycle, but it was too late, she ended up alone.

I also like to think that instead of focusing on the world and the people in it. They focused too much on the drama. While the infection/cure plot was pretty much non-existent. I don't mind "Revenge plots" but they should of kept it in balance. And really, letting a much love character like Joel to be killed by abby, and expected us to like her because we played her character and wanted us understand her point of view? Naughty Dog was reaching.

Besides Joel's Jesse's death was probably the one that made me the most sad. He was a such a great guy who went way out of his way to help his friends.

No, maybe he didn't go out like a hero and his death was quick and unexpected, but in this world of course not everyone is going to have this super ceremonious death that's really meaningful and powerful. It's a cruel world, shit happens. Not every main character is gonna go out the way we wish they would, and that perfectly represents how unforgiving the world of The Last of Us is.
Totally also it makes sense because Ellie tells Joel that she wants her death to be meaningful but she doesn't understand that that's not how the real world works.
Heroic deaths are for simple minded people who like cliche stories that deliver exactly what they want in a comfortable and easy to digest presentation. I prefer good writing that makes me confront uncomfortable truths about empathy, hatred and forgiveness.
I liked abby at the end just as much as ellie if not more after seeing her perspective she’s just the same as ellie. They both had their points joel just fucked up neither are the bad guy.
I get why Jesse’s death was kinda realistic with the situation, you can’t just weep while trying to save him and scream his name when there’s a hulk nearby but at least in Ellie’s perspective make it more gut punching since there wasn’t much emotion in the scene

It's crazy how from Ellie's perspective everything seems to happen so fast, but when we see what Abby does, it feels like forever till Ellie gets out of cover.
I think people complain because they were too get used to the Uncharted formula given by Naughty Dog: the protagonist barely suffers, their friends/companions don´t die and got a happy ending. This is a post-apocalyptic world, people suffer and die misserably because morals don´t exist anymore, only the instinct of survival. Let´s be honest, neither of the characters were good at all.
Why in the hell do you play as Abby it’s so stupid they make Ellie seem like the bad guy. Last game you played as Joel and Ellie. You didn’t get to play as the VILLIAN. Your playing as the character that KILLED Joel. Like what the hell. I really liked the first game. We waited about 5 years for the shit. I’m probably in the 1% on side where I gravitate more on Abby’s side. Which I truly don’t understand why people don’t. Take out the lore of the first game is take the facts in, Joel single-handedly doomed humanity last chance of survival, killed an innocent scientist alongside it . Going through the second game Abby takes the life of who killed her father , then Ellie murders her whole group just to find her.
I didn't realize that Tommy not only asked Ellie to avenge Joel after everything she'd been through, but told her to do it ALONE. Attempted to conscript this poor girl to ride out and assassinate one person for no reason other than revenge and a rotten promise made when she was at her lowest. The debate about Joel being a monster/bad person is ongoing but I feel pretty comfortable calling this downright awful.
I don't understand why Naughty Dog didn't address the fact that Ellie bit Abby in the arm during the theater fight. So either Ellie would have signed Abbie's death warrent (like David in the first game) and she'd be dead within a few days, or Abbie is immune like Ellie, which should have been a HUGE plot point but was never touched on.
Remember her kissing Dina and saying: "Don't worry, I can't get you infected." There's also journal entries where she talks about not being able to spread it
I remember watching alot and i do mean ALOT of youtubers watching this scene in their lets play and then got to control Abby after she killed Jesse and shot tommy in the face. The youtubers all walked up to Ellie and let her kill Abby, some of them even did it multiple times while laughing. Because the right thing to do when you kill two beloved characters (i know tommy survived dont comment about that) that you've grown fond of is to let you play the person that killed both of them right after that cutscene. GENIUS!

It's weird to have two different perspectives on Jesse's death with the different points of view of the characters. When you play Ellie, his death seems brutal and dramatic. While from Abby's point of view it seems quick, like he's just a simple NPC who get killed.

You know one thing I noticed about the story is that Ellie doesn’t know why Abby kill Joel.
Ellie is out for revenge and very emotional about the whole situation. Ellie doesn’t know that Joel killed Abby’s dad when he took Ellie out of the hospital. Abby had no reason to kill Ellie and Tommy after she captured both of them the fist time because vengeance was all she was worried about. One part of the game when you’re with Dina in a random dialogue she bring up the question “why didn’t She kill you and Tommy she had a chance” but Ellie cut her off and said “she fucked up!” The second time they met (the theater) Abby had the gun pointed at Tommy Ellie said “there’s no cure because of me I’m the one you want” Abby didn’t care about the cure it was the fact that her dad was killed but during the theater confrontation Abby did have a reason now to kill Ellie after she killed all her friends. They both suffered from Joel actions in their own ways.

She emphasizes being immune and the reason this whole story was set in motion, but after spending three days with Abby, Ellie saying this almost seems completely irrelevant to Abby being pissed at that moment. I’m not the biggest fan of the story but I do like seeing these interesting perspectives.

Tommy lost his brother the only blood related person left in the world(and from first game we know Joel always been the big brother and take care of him since they were kids, so despite the resentment he have for Joel he immediately accept him when they meet again). When he's still emotional stable he try to let it go. But seeing his adopted niece's sorrow he made this decision. Then he lost an eye and is crippled, his wife leave him. When you're done grieving you're usually filled with anger instead. There is no psychiatrist in the post apocalyptic world. Before it's Ellie who can not let go, but now it's Tommy who lost everything now. The contrast is here Tommy lost everything, Ellie got new family a new "everything". Tommy got no closure from anyone, even the one who suppose to share his pain( Ellie) are abandoning him. I'm not saying what he did in this video is acceptable, it's just that the man is broken. If anything Ellie should help Tommy through his grief/anger and should act as bridge between him and Maria. But I suppose since Ellie is broken too, she's also not capable of doing that at the moment. It's very depressing.

It makes no sense for her to have left Ellie alive knowing who she is. To have tortured Joel like that. Maybe it does. But to players who have no idea who she is and dont really care about her, it doesnt make sense. It also makes no sense that they forced players to play as Abby without making her somehow relatable, likable and human. This game is so confusing. It adds frustration on top of pain instead of helpint us understand that there are two sides to a conflict and that compromise should be reached in order to end -as you said-. this endless circle of revenge. Seeing Ellie and Abby's feud ruin or end the lives of everyone they care about or love, it's both fascinating and heartbreaking.
I don't understand why people think Abby's body is unrealistic. In real life exist women that have more muscles than her without any asteroids. It's possible. In TLOU's universe it totally makes sense. Abby was training hours straight for 5 years to kill Joel. With obsession you can do anything. And I don't think it makes her ugly. Just different. Abby's face is beautiful btw.

Honestly, This game made me pull a 180. In the beginning I liked Ellie and hated Abby... But as the game went on I started hating Ellie and liking Abby.
I actually like both of them and I love how Naughty Dog played with emotions.
The death of one side character is meaningless to one yet a ginormous kick in the guts for the other one.
Plus, during the whole game, Ellie is doing exactly what Abby did.
They aren't that different after all.
I like them both but I prefer Abby. However, with that said I acknowledge that neither are heroes or good guys. Abby is a military trained killing machine and Ellie is psychotic serial murderer.

Besides the graphics, voice acting, improved gameplay and the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie, the story which is a big factor in a game like the last of us is bad and above that poorly executed. They try and make u feel for a character like Abby who I personally and I'm sure others agree don't care about. Sure the concept of the story is reasonable but it's like it's just not meant to be and on top of that written badly which makes it feel even more wrong and stupid. Not to mention the dry death of Jesse which was a cool new character to me personally.

Yes I agree with u but hear me out I don't count the graphics as a good thing because it's 2020 it's not that hard anymore to make a game with good graphics but to me it's kinda the same the flashbacks are awesome that's what most people wanted a teenaged Ellie and a grown Joel and the Fighting mechanics and facial expressions are good too but they messed up badly on the story telling they could of did so much better they had endless opportunities and they picked something nobody wanted not even 70 percent of drunkmens co-workers
Agree. For me personally the story seems unoriginal and cliche for the Last of us title. Ellie kills so many people in order to find Abby but then doesn't kill her because revenge is a bad thing as we are told all the time. This is a plot that I have seen so many times already in other games and movies that it's just annoying by this point . It almost always has an unsatisfying conclusion. And yeah they tried to make Abby a sympathetic character but I just wanted her dead the whole time.

Seriously, Naughty Dog are completely tone deaf. One of the new characters that I actually liked in this game was Jesse. He actually had character development unlike Abby and every other character introduced. But... they kill him off for no reason.

They missed a golden chance her for ellie to snap back at abby after she said ellie killed her friends. Imagine if the camera slowly zoomed on on Ellie as she said " and you killed my father" just imagine how good that would have been. Ellie finally acknowledging Joel as her adopted dad. Then you could have a emotional scene when abby realizes she did the same thing to ellie that joel did to her. Something so simple yet it could have added some depth to this hallow ass game

I know my opinion is gonna be unpopular because this is the internet, but I think the conclusion of neither of them being able to kill each other in the end because they realize they’d only get a day or two of satisfaction while their loved ones are forever lost to them was done well enough. Sure some players might sleep easy at night if Ellie went through with her mission, but the character herself would likely have to live with the regrets way down the line. Even in her own final moments. There’s no good or evil. Both are Grey. Both are human. Both acted the way they did for a reason and knew when enough was enough.
Imma have to stop u right there everything u just said makes sense but it should've been totally different I kinda like the way they went with this game but there are at least 4 different ways they could have went to make the viewer's and fans enjoy it but they should of never picked this way

Cyber Flame I agree completely, both characters suffered a lot due to revenge, and most of their loved one paid the price for it, no only With Death, but With severing bondings and relationships. And at the end both saw that there was no point in still fighting because they've lost almost everything, Abby didn't want to fight, Ellie started the fight because of her PTSD driven her to it and realized it was useless, nothing will bring Joel back (we have to take into account that this cycle of vengeance started With Joel killing the doctor out of selfish love for her surrogate daughter, because the doctor wanted to kill Ellie out for his obsession to get a vaccine With no assurance that it would work) And she ended the violence cycle, but it was too late, she ended up alone.

I also like to think that instead of focusing on the world and the people in it. They focused too much on the drama. While the infection/cure plot was pretty much non-existent. I don't mind "Revenge plots" but they should of kept it in balance. And really, letting a much love character like Joel to be killed by abby, and expected us to like her because we played her character and wanted us understand her point of view? Naughty Dog was reaching.
Here's the problem: What about the dozens of other people Ellie kills on the way to Abby? How can Ellie claim to have ended the cycle of violence when she's left countless bodies in her wake? Do you think *their* loved ones are going to forgive her?
Besides Joel's Jesse's death was probably the one that made me the most sad. He was a such a great guy who went way out of his way to help his friends.

Imagine if one of your favorite characters from another form of media had to go out the same way as (for example) joel, I bet you wouldn't be satisfied, not because that character had to die but because it happened in such a lazy and boring way.

Can't stand everyone in the comments saying Jesse's death was pathetic. No, maybe he didn't go out like a hero and his death was quick and unexpected, but in this world of course not everyone is going to have this super ceremonious death that's really meaningful and powerful. It's a cruel world, shit happens. Not every main character is gonna go out the way we wish they would, and that perfectly represents how unforgiving the world of The Last of Us is.
Totally also it makes sense because Ellie tells Joel that she wants her death to be meaningful but she doesn't understand that that's not how the real world works.
Heroic deaths are for simple minded people who like cliche stories that deliver exactly what they want in a comfortable and easy to digest presentation. I prefer good writing that makes me confront uncomfortable truths about empathy, hatred and forgiveness.

I get why Jesse’s death was kinda realistic with the situation, you can’t just weep while trying to save him and scream his name when there’s a hulk nearby but at least in Ellie’s perspective make it more gut punching since there wasn’t much emotion in the scene

I think people complain because they were too get used to the Uncharted formula given by Naughty Dog: the protagonist barely suffers, their friends/companions don´t die and got a happy ending. This is a post-apocalyptic world, people suffer and die misserably because morals don´t exist anymore, only the instinct of survival.

The only good parts of this game was Ellie’s glowup and Ellie and Dinas realationship. Everything else is dodo. Ellie is pretty hot tho. But the game isn’t really good.

In a world where surviving is already difficult as fuck, I’m not sure if it makes any sense for these characters to put so much weight on vengeance.
I’m probably in the 1% on side where I gravitate more on Abby’s side. Which I truly don’t understand why people don’t. Take out the lore of the first game is take the facts in, Joel single-handedly doomed humanity last chance of survival, killed an innocent scientist alongside it . Going through the second game Abby takes the life of who killed her father , then Ellie murders her whole group just to find her.
I didn't realize that Tommy not only asked Ellie to avenge Joel after everything she'd been through, but told her to do it ALONE. Attempted to conscript this poor girl to ride out and assassinate one person for no reason other than revenge and a rotten promise made when she was at her lowest. The debate about Joel being a monster/bad person is ongoing but I feel pretty comfortable calling this downright awful.
People complain when games aren’t realistic and when games are actually made realistic like lou2, people complain still.
I don't understand why Naughty Dog didn't address the fact that Ellie bit Abby in the arm during the theater fight. So either Ellie would have signed Abbie's death warrent (like David in the first game) and she'd be dead within a few days, or Abbie is immune like Ellie, which should have been a HUGE plot point but was never touched on.
Remember her kissing Dina and saying: "Don't worry, I can't get you infected."
There's also journal entries where she talks about not being able to spread it
I remember watching alot and i do mean ALOT of youtubers watching this scene in their lets play and then got to control Abby after she killed Jesse and shot tommy in the face. The youtubers all walked up to Ellie and let her kill Abby, some of them even did it multiple times while laughing. Because the right thing to do when you kill two beloved characters (i know tommy survived dont comment about that) that you've grown fond of is to let you play the person that killed both of them right after that cutscene. GENIUS!
That's the thing though. To us, they are beloved characters. To Abby, they are nothing but coldblooded monsters.
@@bjakeijzer I understand it in that regard. However considering that so many people killed Abby in pure distain it seems like they failed making Abby likeable enough to go through with the action in order for the player to want to continue on with the story at that point.
@@bjakeijzer the problem is we already know Ellie and of course us the players we won't want to kill her so it makes sense the players let Abby get killed by Ellie

yup It's been four months and it's STILL going. This hate trend to people is like Fallout 76 and Anthem. but THOSE games had legitamately good reasons for hate. this wasn't doesn't really imo.
