    As for the line lay issue with VS series, Lou Caruso did a video on the surfcasters journal channel about correcting VS line lay issues. Its as easy as changing the way you put line on the spool, if you adapt this method to your own reel your line will remain perfectly flat.

      As for the VR series I have never owned one nor do I want one, so I don't know of any line lay issues. I have bailed reels, but they are strictly used for super long casting from a sandy beach, Daiwa and Shimano distance reels, they do not need to be waterproof or indestructable, just a good long spool.

    Great looking reel.Van Staal did the right thing with this reel.

    Just finished my first season service. The reel performed well all year but I am shocked at the exposed bail springs. Full of sand and crunchy after the first dunk. What were they thinking. Takes longer to disassemble, clean and re-assemble the bail than to clean and service the rest of the reel. SMH

    400yrds on a 125 is a lot of line. i wonder if they plan to go smaller?? maybe a 100 size or smaller ?? I am digging the modular design

    VR125 arrived at my hand on June 23rd. Like it a lot! However! As you can see in this video, you can't easily turn it with the included wrench! I could remove the rotor, but the handle plate doesn't rotate at all. Please tell me another way to turn it.

    So does the Modular design mean that you can switch the rotor and spool of a VR125 to a larger spool?

    • @PatrickCambria
      @PatrickCambria 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reels are all the same minus the spools and rotos. The 125 rotor will also fit the 150 spool. The 175 rotors will fit the 200 spool.

      +SURF KING with the best will in the world i would say this response is a little blinkered. as i said own both reels both are fantastic reels and they both have their place, but i don't think anyone who has fished with both could say either one is a million times better than the other. my main issue with the VS is the line lay. i don't think that anyone who owns one would say the line lay was great but its something you work with considering the reels other attributes. I was just interested to know wether this had been addressed with the latest reel

      good morning ! thats the way many people think. but let's look at the other side of the coin, I have spent a lot of money on reels like -avet-penn slamer-penn spinfisher,
      diawa lex. is expensive if add them together. so why not buy just one or two great reels that you could take any where and fish anything with it.(thak you have a great day...)

      I've got a 150 and can confirm that they're made in china..shitty. But Van Staal is pretty open about the overseas manufacturing, they stamp it big on the reel foot. QC, warranty, service and repair are all in the US to my knowledge. idk man van staal is adamant that there's no quality drop in the reels and its hard to find a reel that isn't oem'ed over seas. I've had No issues with mine. Been flawless on the beaches and jetties in Florida I would recommend it for the price.

    • @Bigfish1day
      @Bigfish1day 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Diamond made in China but what isn’t? I must say, had mine for 4 years so far no issues. It’s been reeled under water surf fishing, had lots of sand. Still smooth as glass.
