the point Aaron made about Hendrix is so on point. so many people try to be like Hendrix by buying strats, marshall amps, fuzz face, univibe, wah etc but without context its just a copy paste attempt. if you really want to BE like Hendrix, look at the newest gear coming out and make it work for your style of playing, because thats what HE did!
I love this man and the work he's crafted. Had an opportunity to meet him at a show and bought a shirt from him. Very humble and yet so forward thinking in reflecting about the state and potential contemporary metal as a vehicle for radical awareness and change.
I was about to say that it was a pain in the ass, but he beat me to it! Only been there a few times, for a reason. Cool place though would be great if you literally never went anywhere.
Loved this, from Old Man Gloom, Pharaoh Overload and Circle, across to Keiji Haino and collaborators, The Bug, Oxbow and of course Jimi Hendrix, this was mighty good fun and enlightening. I'm certainly going to check out Pan Amerikan Native Front and other recommendations, thanks so much to both of you.
what a highly articulate dude. And well done for avoiding the painful question about Isis splitting just before it turned out to be a highly unfortunate band name
@@wrongspeedrecords9964 you made me Google. Downton Abbey, not my bag! Apparently he died in 2014, possibly traumatised by the band splitting after releasing one of their best (Wavering Radiant is amazing!!). Then the rise of Isis mk 2, nothing happens without a reason
I like The Bug too, but reckon Techno Animal (with Justin Broadrick) is better. Their 1995 double CD "Re-Entry" is one of the best albums I've heard. I believe a vinyl release is planned. Kevin's band God were amazing too - "The Anatomy Of Addiction" is a must-hear. Another fine chat (to misquote Oliver Hardy!).
What was that band on 47:10? Curious And THANK YOU for doing these interviews. Signed for sure. Personally if it's not rude to wishlist I'd love to see interviews with Kurt Ballou of Converge, with Puce Mary perhaps, with Colin Stetson (you know that crazy saxophone guy), with Caspar Brotzmann for sure, with Deadkids that brazilian lads really good band
Harry Pussy - check them out, gnarly stuff. Bill Orcutt is the guitarist. His solo stuff is what we end up talking about. He totally destroys his guitar. And your interview wishlist is noted....I'll try! Glad you're enjoying!
At least a little comedy was injected into the conversation when he started droning on about Burzum. Always revealing when the key (and only) complaint about Varg is that he’s a racist. Rather than the fact that he actually killed someone.
Rust in Peace is a killer album, have it on tape and its been one of my favorite metal albums for almost 30 years. Think its better than early Metallica, only that one though. Youthanasia kinda sucks though. I kinda don't want to talk to "metal" fans who don't love the record, good on you Aaron but the controversy is just dumb.
The stuff he's saying at 1.01 about NOT separating the racist dickheads from the music (departing from the received wisdom is SO important and rarely said
PS if you want some anti-fascist 'BM' (apparently you're not allowed to call it black metal if it isn't about evil----give me strength) - try Dawn Ray'd th-cam.com/video/Avqo5JtksIc/w-d-xo.html

I agree. Aaron's one of the good guys and no doubt.
Excellent beard!
A massive YES on Rust In Peace. havent stopped listening to it for the past 25 years
In case anyone is wondering, that t-shirt says MORTIFERUM.
I have to say Aaron Turner is an absolute hero of mine.
Thanks for this! Always a treat to listen to an Aaron Turner interview.
Absolutely superb. Really enjoyed every minute of this. Thanks so much.
Another winner!
this is such a great chat!

Circle, The Bug and Oxbow all such great artists
Thanks to Aaron for bringing up Pan Amerikan Native Front. Little turtles war is an incredible record. RABM is thriving, fuck burzum.

wasn't there a dog in a UK soap opera with that name?

Amazing!
Another fun one. Cheers.

I really thought at 47:12 the conversation would go to a whole another direction.
Great interview even if it didn't!
haha....HARRY Pussy! Not, errr.......!!
Annnny chance you can list the records discussed? Couldn't keep up or dicpher the band names. Thank you.

What is the name of the island where he lives? I didn’t quite understand the name…
explorewashingtonstate.com/spending-a-day-on-vashon-island/ - there ya go!
You should have seen him with dreadlocks. Kinda scary. I think he looks friendlier with long hair.

He sounds Irish.
