Honestly, Black Armory returning makes a lot of sense to me. Out of all the remaining sunset loot Black Armory and Dawn are the big two I think people would be excited to see return.
I think the reason why black armory and Dawn weapons are so sought after is because they looked cool they sounded cool and they had decent perk pools. Recent weapons have just been recolors and the weapon design team hasn't been doing so great. If they want to make weapon sets as memorable as black Armory and Dawn weapons then they need to make them look and sound different from any other weapon set
I think it also had to do with the direct relationship between the guns and the activities. We were literally forging the weapons. Season of dawn was similar, it felt like we were pulling these weapons out of an time anomaly. While it feels like the newer seasonal weapons are just additions to the season that don’t feel super connected to the activity or themes
Isn't that the point? Revealing closer to the release is better than revealing it too early. I prefer going in and find out rather than letting it sit and hyping myself up with speculations that is overexaggerating.

I do hope that the ringing nail (that is my favourite black armory weapon) makes the cut (you know how bungie sometimes brings only a few of the sunset weapons back). Nothing short of every single destination coming back, along with all the raids. Black Armory weapons are nice, but I'd rather have Black Armory as a whole back in the game.
This is kind of where I'm at. On the one hand, Black Armorys time holds my best memories with the game, and I miss it. On the other hand, with Bungie's track record, do I really trust them to not screw it up somehow? No. I do not. Part of what made the gear from that time special was the work required to get it. They removed the black armory shimmer mod and slot that added the rgb special animated effect to all my black armory weapons. The ones i have in the vault have all lost that effect that i earned for them. I wonder if they will return that to us?
They've very clearly said sunsetting happened because they wanted to keep players on a theoretically infinite loot treadmill of replacing old lost gear with new gear, while allowing out of band weapons like Recluse and Mountaintop to exist for their planned obsolescence period without being nerfed into the ground, before being rotated out of the active loot pool. That system was also meant to avoid necessitating power creep to make new loot appealing (which is a problem that's been steadily creeping back up)
If you are a lore buff, much Golden Age tech (mostly a lot of Exotic weapons) was in the Black Armory's care, so it's possible some of it may still be helpful in The Final Shape. From a gameplay perspective, however, it needs to be better than it was the first time - Season of the Forge got tons of flak for its general lack of fun or direction, so they can't simply rehash stuff. In regards to Breakneck, I have seen quite a few use it in GG Supremacy.
Man I hope BA makes a comeback. I started playing during Season of the Forge, so the forges are quite nostalgic for me. Also: Recluse/Mountaintop/Breakneck and all them were called "Pinnacle Weapons".
The first hint towards them returning was in season of the witch with black armory weapon papers being scattered around the floor in the room with the portal. There are other paper assets in the game so it seems unlikely they would have just randomly picked those ones to scatter on the floor.
Outside of any rumors, it's just easy to imagine we're getting reprised black armory in some form. It's in high demand from players and does not require huge work from Bungie, just reprising weapons. If I had to be a bit more realistic about it, just based on the current leaks, maybe we'd get Hammerhead as a nightfall weapon.
Also I will bet 100% that these weapons are coming back. Bungie has never ever ever re-released a legendary weapon ornament without reissuing the weapon itself. So they are 100% coming back, else why would they even be bringing these ornaments back in the first place?
6:40 blast furnace was kinetic, but I would love to see it come back as a strand or stasis weapon, that gun was my highest kill primary until I crafted insidious
I used the Recluse the other day in Vanguard strikes. I went full nostalgia loadout and had recluse, hammerhead and Mountaintop on. Honestly, it just feels like a solid SMG these days. Nothing mind blowing. Same as Hammerhead. Both (especially with ornaments) look great but they have been powercrept hard. Mountaintop on the other hand, still feels like an absolute menace and a unique rocket/sniper hybrid. If that made a return I'd be REALLY happy. But only if they brought it back the same/better. Not neuter it and make it a traditional lob grenade launcher etc.
Paul, my man....why all the Breakneck shade?? It's a monster with subsistence/onslaught, or even Adagio, and now it's getting Target Lock apparently lol
Take: if bungie was to get in front of the leaks and tease us about near future items it would gain a lot of positive attention rather than the negative connotation of "leaks"
Gotta laugh at Paul thinking its a "stretch" that the weapons will return with the ornaments being brought back in to the API. Lol you know what's more of a stretch? Bungie trying to sell you an ornament for a sunset weapon that is worthless in 99% of activities currently. Please Paul, I know you are fatigued with Destiny (it shows with how you talk about the game) but don't abandon your critical thinking skills.
Why would they talk beforehand. Clearly them being quiet is doing tons for them with everyone speculating. Besides i think they're expecting april to boost hype for TFS and with into the light, you'll have an excuse to play, have fun, pre-order, maybe spend some cash on eververse... the devs are probably dying to show us stuff, but you know... management
The fact that the new skins from the Eververse data mine are for Black Armory screams they're coming back for sure. Bungie are clearly trying to bribe us back to excitement.
Bringing back black armory weapons, and even more so recluse, would be cool… but those weapons were good because they were innovative (never had rampage kill clip on a gun before, etc.). To bring them back and they just get the normal perks that every other void hand cannon has or every other heavy machine gun has would be an actual shame. Even worse would be bring back recluse and give it the same generic void smg perk pool that funnelweb has… if you bring these things back they HAVE to bang or it’s a waste and just a prey on nostalgia
I am NOT a Destiny 2 PvP player. My glory days of PvP shooters ended around the Halo 3 & MW2 era. I struggled so hard and for so long to get it, so happy and proud was I of being able to achieve that, that I purchased the skin for it (i don't make purchases in the eververse) only for them to then sunset it a couple months later, making mmaking my purchase void and my money wasted. I've been pretty set on dropping the game after the conclusion of the finale shape, but I could easily just never fire it up again starting now. Just looking for a reason and Bungie seems keen to provide one.
Black Armoury weapons return, we'll be grinding for the best rolls for them all. Plus Reckoning and Menagerie weapons returned. Not all but enough for us to be happy. Just one more from the Forsaken era in terms of weapons to return.
now that you mention it, i would fucking love a dares refresh... i hate playing it after i got the other half pattern and everything else crafted and it's such a fun activity
They’re balancing out the meta with banger weapons. The recluse would not be overpowered anymore. Especially with the PvP balance changes. A lot of the new weapons are pinnacle level now. Breakneck with kinetic tremors… fantastic
Everything feels like it's coming back somehow, but I just don't understand why they don't bring the menagerie activity back into the game. That was one of the best activities in the game if not the best, besides the escalation protocol or something like that. It just had very consistent replay value, unlike the monotonous activities of today. You always found people for it. The activity was simply fun. Now we have Rivens Lair and The Coil, of course not bad either, it's always a matter of opinion somewhere, but honestly, Menagerie was simply far better than these current activities. Sure, I can understand people who think that this is old content and so on...I get it. But those old activities simply had a greater overall popularity and replay value than the current monotonous stuff. The Season of Opulence and Warmind were really good. I wonder if we'll ever get that content, or those activities, back... I don't know...
Also, the old ritual weapons were called "Pinnacle" weapons. The concept is fine: a set roll of the most impactful combinations of perks in a gun to earn. But the application was very flawed. The presence of a perfect gun makes all other adjacent ones irrelevant, and the mere existence of a "better" perceived gun eliminated player choice. It was silly to choose NOT to use the mountaintop just like it was silly not to use the immortal... and IMHO peak recluse was way more damaging to the sandbox than peak immortal was. Immortal shifted the meta, the recluse and mountaintop DEFINED the meta.
I don’t know how much salt to take with the leaks. Considering I didn’t hear any leaks about the skimmer(which would have been a big deal as a new vehicle being put in destiny sounds as unlikely as getting SRL or siva back but it happened anyways) you have to wonder how that slipped through but this other leak stuff did?
If Into the Light is a pass on content already in the game, it might as well not be talked about like it’s a big update. That’s TWID-worthy at best. Also, it would be cool to see Black Armory weapons come back, but we’ve been asking for these to come back for four years… maybe it’s just me, but this feels like a cheap attempt to boost numbers during a content drought. Those weapons could have come back at any point after weapons 3.0 came out. All of the best stuff is getting added to D2 in the year of Lightfall, but, because the relationship between Bungie and its playerbase is at a all-time low, I can’t help but feel like it’s only happening because crap hit the fan. It feels like an ex who finally tries to fix things once they realize you’re leaving for real. They’ve *at least* got my interest with Final Shape, but, if they can’t deliver after that, I’ll be fighting for managed democracy from here on out. That game actually knows how to respect a player.
At the moment Bungie are throwing the kitchen sink at the game to keep players happy and get them to buy Final Shape, I can absolutely see them bringing back the weapons and anything else if it will help sell Final Shape.
It's nothing more than bungie's desperation to regain player numbers. Look at the newest addons in the past couple months and look at the numbers. All we can do is hope that bungie makes this more stable and less nerfed.
While I do enjoy black armory gear I would really rather see something new, I would rather play content I have never seen rather than content I haven't touched in a while
Man, I literally grinded so hard for my old Black Armory rolls. I REFUSE to grind it again. The disrespect is so real, and you’re excited for this?? Come on dude
I feel like The Mountaintop and Recluse might be able to come back in something like their original forms since we powercrept so hard that some builds barely even require guns

I’ve wanted this since they took it away. Took so long i stopped playing.
I felt black armory was one of the better activities in terms of both fun and quality of the weapons (at the time).
It's nothing more than bungie's desperation to regain player numbers. Look at the newest addons in the past couple months and look at the numbers. All we can do is hope that bungie makes this more stable and less nerfed.
Ok but like, if we can’t get that kill clip rampage hand cannon then what’s even the point yknow what I mean
If they bring back Black Armory weapons withoud different optics options, I'm building an ICBM and sending it to Bungie HQ.
When have they ever brought an eververse ornament for a gun you can’t get? Doesn’t happen. They’re bringing them back
Its sad that the seraph weapons are useless.
Paul I love ya, but you shouldn't be laughing at website for leaving in a double sentence when you are good for a blatant typo every 3rd article or so
