Amazing story. Whilst yes most people can do this in theory…. you are obviously an exceptional person for actually having the balls and effort of going through with it whilst working, and then living in the unbuilt van for so long that was no doubt hard. I’m a bit old now and done my fair share of travelling in my day…. but I hope you inspire many people. If I had my time again I would love to think I would give it a shot.
Thank you for sharing these words. It was a challenge for sure, but absolutely worth it. I knew the end goal of travelling would be worth the short term sacrifice. The thought of freedom kept me going during the difficult times. One job at a time and eventually you’re ready to go.
Very sensible, I put an ad on marketplace offering help others to build a home on a truck or similar and saying if you don't have much money then buy the best vehicle you can afford and just move in with camping gear to stop paying rent and do it up gradually. In a year I got zero interest which blows my mind, it showed me that most are not sensible like you and me. They would rather be stuck renting for life in a share house until they die. This is Australia by the way with some of the most unafforable housing in the entire world, WILD !
best option would be just save some money instead borrowing I think Wished I lucked out to get 5k a month from jobs would be living like a queen, I can only find stuff paying 1500 ish and is depressing, yet somehow saved 15000 at one point with paying my rent.
Does anyone else find it ironic that someone with no experience can get a job in property investment where a person in the same position can't afford the properties? It is a perfect example of why our system is so incredibly broken, things don't have to make sense if there is enough money involved and here we all are in a system that doesn't make sense.
I have a VW transporter, it's a lovely van for trips, but something breaks at least once a month it seems. Unfortunately at my job I only get paid about £1000 a month, thankfully I don't have much monthly outgoings, but I dunno how you lucked into a job that paid you so much each month, nothing like that around here for inexperienced people. I owe my mum £4000 for van repairs now, I'll try and pay her £500 a month until April.
with van you probably would be doing great doing food/business deliveries, until you get bored pretty much. Or do it as additional income if you feel like it, but I think for someone living in van it's perfect job to all day if you have energy for it
I would think that getting an overdraft is NOT the best way to start a nomad life 🙄🙄 Best plan: Work .... save ... have fun - Work ... save ... have fun - Work ... save ... have fun Repeat as necessary 😊
How you explain is very much how Donald Trump explained and guy rich dad poor.dad, with negative debt. You have to truat self, like you say some folk dont trust self. But great you explain for.the folks.that are and do trust themselves.

Yes man. Good stuff
i spent my retirement lump sum on my van at 50 , id have pissed it up the wall by now but was sensible
Well done, bet that feeling of freedom after being debt free was so magical
Such a relief especially after just clearing my debt to go in to an overdraft! All worth it though 🙏
£4,700 a month! Man i need that job haha

It can be a very sound decision if the effect is to save huge monthly rental bills.
Without rent, the overdraft can be settled much quicker!

You're a true inspiration Si! I love your story it really is great 😊 🫶
