This actually cleared things up for me. I read the genealogy in Matthew the other day and told my husband that with that Jesus couldn't have been a decendant of David since Joseph wasn't his true father. But I knew that Jesus was in fact decended from David since it says he is in the Bible, so I was having trouble figuring out how he was since I haven't gotten to Luke yet in my reading. But now I know that both Mary and Joseph are decendants of David threw different sons of David. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

I found it particularly interesting to learn about the different ways in which the two genealogies are presented in the Bible and how they relate to Jesus' identity as the Messiah. I also enjoyed the visual presentation of the information. Great job!

Furthermore, Jesus Christ did not just want to bring his teaching to a specific people or nation, but I am convinced that he consciously, as already mentioned for what reasons, chose his "place of origin" in Galilee to bring all entities, respectively , all countries and peoples known at the time. Furthermore, its origin is divine.

It is clear that Mary is of the lineage of King David. Why is she relegated as just the vessel through which God became flesh? Why isn't she exalted as the heroic young woman who sacrifice her honor to bring us our savior? Why don't we know more about her. It was in her that the truth was planted.

  • @smvallet
    @smvallet 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Ack. No. Matthew shows the lineage of Jesus through his mother Mary. Count the generations. There should be 14 generations from Abraham to David, 14 generations from Solomon to Jeconiah, 14 generations from Shealtiel to Jesus. The Joseph in this lineage is Mary’s father. The only way to arrive at 14 is by counting Joseph, Mary and Jesus. It also helps to notice that the genealogy in Matthew is through Solomon and the one in Luke is through his brother Nathan. Therefore, they cannot both be about Joseph the husband of Mary. Mary isn’t mentioned at all in Luke. She is specifically mentioned in Matthew, because it is her line.
Matthew is about Jesus the King. Biological Lineage from David/Solomon, etc
Mark is Jesus the servant. No lineage.
Luke is Jesus the man. Lineage from his earthly father.
John is about Jesus the Son of God.

It's not "lineage" per se that qualifies a contender to claim Messiahship, but Royal Lineage. In 2 Kings 11:1-3 the daughters of the King were not threatened by Athaliah because only males are Royal Seed (therefore Mary is excluded). Jesus' father would have to be a direct descendant of David's to be "Son of David". Don't get me wrong, I believe Jesus is the Messiah, but the NT genealogies are bogus in making that determination. I believe what Peter believed in Acts 2:30, that Jesus is the fruit of David's loins (not from someone else - see Rom 1:3).

No, it is much more probable Elizabeth was Mary's great (great?) Aunt or cousin a couple removed from her. The pictures showing Elizabeth same age as Mary is an Anachronism. The pictures showing Elizabeth an old woman, 2/3 generations older then Mary are right on!

It is shocking to see christians still arguing about the genealogy of Jesus. Who is right? Matthew or Luke?
There are many confusions and errors in both their genealogies of Jesus. Look at the 2 genealogies from DAVID to JESUS.
For Matthews ,Jesus descended from David through SALOMON. And there exists 27 NAMES from David to Jesus.
For LUKE ,Jesus descended from David through Nathan. And there existe 42 NAMES from David to Jesus.
    How is this POSSIBLE ?
And things get worse when you have SALATHIEL, ZOROBABEL and JOSEPH on both genealogies

  • @renabervian1780

It is probably difficult to truly trace ancient lineages except in ancient writings. As for Jesus Christ, I am of the opinion that he had no, if any, Jewish roots, including his mother Mary. Especially in Galilee, the Romans had already transported all undesirable people, especially prisoners from all conquered areas, to Galilee a hundred years before the birth of Jesus in order to mix the population, as is common practice today in order to achieve better control of the population . One clue is that, if it is correctly reported in the Bible, Mary greeted these three white men from the “Eastern Land” immediately after birth, in the puerperium. But due to Jewish tradition, a Jewish woman would never have been able to greet these three white men. This is not 100% proven, but neither is the opposite. There is now some thought that the original Jewish tribes came from the north and had fair skin and hair. Maybe the pictures that showed Jesus with light hair are.

@@BachBeethovenBerg Jesus's family was most definitely from Nazareth. Luke 2:39 states it's their "own city" (legal residence). Joseph was legally from Nazareth, so even thou Jesus were born in Bethlehem he was legally from Nazareth and thus could be called Jesus of Nazareth. If Joseph were instead from Bethlehem, his legal city, Jesus would have ended up being called Jesus of Bethlehem.
Mary went HOME to Nazareth after her visit with Elizabeth.
They went up from Nazareth every year to Bethlehem for Passover, a tradition that well proceeded Jesus birth.

@bethbartlett5692 The Jews have always done things contrary to God's devine plan for them and his laws. God does not trace their line through the female, but the male. That would be through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, all males, by the way. Furthermore, the Romans had absolutely nothing to do with the writing down of the devinely inspired, inerrant, infallable contents of the Bible. Thus, they have nothing to do with the ancient genealogies contained in it. If you look at all of them, you will see that the bloodlines are traced through the males, not the females, starting from the book of Genesis. I TRUST GOD'S RECORD.
