    500 hours per month is 16 hours per day, that's a lot of exercise

    Thanks for the review. Please give us an update after 3-4 months of use .... That was when mine started to fail .... and the second replacement and the third one .... I gave up ... The latest firmware update came end of July. I hoped it would solved the problems (freezing, drops, spikes and so on) but no ... keeps failing .. And is not gel, is not a tight strap, is not static, is not the battery .... There is certainly something wrong with these devices ... I had 3 and all of them with problems. It is a common issue and well known problem . Various forums discuss about this. Nice for the first 3 months and that's it.

    just got back from my 2nd run with the TickR X. it broke 10 minutes into my run, started showing an active heart rate of 60+ when I started going up flights of stairs. WTF!? taking this POS back RN😯🤣🤣

    500 hours of training in a month! Holy Jaysus thats a lot of training man. I currently have the older TickrX and it dropped out during an FTP test last night which was a mighty pain in the Arsenal. Do you know if the Tickr ever turns off? Is that why they chew through batteries?

    I'm not sure why I keep watching it and researching if it could connect to my Apple Watch, as the entire point of getting the watch is to run shirtless without a phone :D
    But good review, as usual!

    I have the Garmin HRM Dual. Ive had it more than a year and just the other day got the notification that the battery needed replaced. It only reads heart rate but i also run with a Stryd so that’s all I need it to do. I’ve been pleased with it.

    4:55 are you considering wearing the HR more or less 24/7? You should get no less than 4 months on a single coin cell, and that's at pro level volume.

      There isn't an on/off switch so I think he's assuming the 500 hours is total hours rather than "on" hours.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      500 hours per battery/10 hours per week of training should equal 50 weeks.
      But there isn’t an off button with this style of monitor. I feel like it spends a lot of time just transmitting nothing (for example, I can film it with the LED’s blinking even though I’m not wearing it).
      I tend to get a month per battery for devices like this. But I guess I’ll have to do a linen term battery test.

      @@kofuzi it will sleep between uses. You'll get good life out of it for sure. I'm going to guess about 6 months- 10 months the rated life should be in functional hours. 😃 If you only use it for runs and none of your other challenges you have been doing, you'll probably get close to that 50 weeks. The one caveat with the accelerometer that I couldn't tell you for sure, is maybe you can wake that one up with movement i.e. if it kicks around a bag or a car you use a lot, but that is not my experience with the Garmin I have with the accelerometer. I have both the Tickr standard and the Garmin equivalent HRM tri (primary use for 95% of workouts) I get 6-7 months at 15+ hours a week on the Garmin. The Tickr has kicked around as a spare for over a year and no battery change yet 👍

    Kofuzi, have you ever suffered from any sort of skin irritation from your HRM straps, or the optical sensors on your wrist?

    My new polar h10 would go haywire at the latter half of the run especially when I am doing intervals. It is very weird since I used to have problems at beginning of the run when it's not wet enough..Now the humidity is closed to 90% and it is not working..Tried everything. Advises needed..

    • @michaeldwilson1471

      Same here. About mile 5 o 6, my Polar H10 will drop the signal or give other strange readings. It rights itself eventually but this is irritating. A tight strap and contact gel do improve performance in my experience.

    Really good review, thanks. I bought it as a heart rate monitor and working with Zwift on the treadmill is a tremendous bonus. The device works brilliantly with my Pixel 6a phone and the stats such as how much elevation I've run are knock out . £65 in the UK. Great value!!

    I’m a fellow runner. I’m thinking on buying a heart rate monitor and I’m between the Wahoo Trickr and Garmin HRM-Dual.
    Please help me choosing the best out of those two.
    Thanks a lot. 🙌🏼

    Hi, can you please make a video on wahoo app explaining it's features? I ran with the ticke x connected to the app, but couldn't find my heart rate zones I was throughout my run. Pls help!

    I’ve been using the same tickr X from 2014 for mostly cycling. However for random runs, weight lifts, and paddle boarding as well. Just last month however it’s starting to malfunction slightly

    I really hope you read and reply to this Mike, but I have some questions about injury prevention and heel striking. I am a new runner and I noticed I heel strike. I don't run a whole lot (usually 2x 10K or 2x 5k and 1x 10K a week) but for how little I've been running, I feel like I might injure something. I've watched several videos on barefoot running and I wondered if you have ever given it a try. Another question is, how do I work on midfoot striking naturally?

    • @phillipoyer3407
      @phillipoyer3407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just make sure you aren’t landing with your foot out in front of your body too far (overstriding), which sends braking forces up your leg. As long as you are landing basically under your center of gravity it doesn’t matter much where on your foot you land. You’ll probably land more midfoot to forefoot as you get faster.

    • @aroundandround
      @aroundandround 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t “work on midfoot striking naturally”. You run however feels most natural while gradually increasing mileage trusting your body to find its most economical form over time.
      Barefoot running on grass can feel very pleasant like a massage and can give you a better sense of your natural running form, but barefoot running is not known to be particularly useful for improving speed-endurance or injury risk, the two metrics most runners seek to improve at the end of the day.

    Great review… I’ve used a few Garmin chest HRM products but I’ve found that there is nothing I can do to avoid chafing. It gets so bad that I will start bleeding after a while and get scars from the strap. I prefer an electrical HRM over the Polar OH1 I’ve been using (which is quite good, actually), so if I could go back to a chest strap, I’d do so. Any suggestions? I’ve tried Glide and petroleum gel. Bandaids work but make the sensors problematic.

      Depending on your country, sudo-cream after use might help. It’s actually a nappy cream but used for so much more.

    Used the original Ticker 2 years ago, it was fine after it wasnt anymore, random disconnects during runs and even after changing battery it was not reliable anymore. Changed to the Garmin HRM (red), more comfortable, never disconnects, got extra running datas (not that accurate btw). Only BT is missing.

    Love that you can use it as a foot pod as well. But not too happy if it doesn't work with my Coros watch to get the other data metrics

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t checked with Coros to see if those metrics will show up

      The coros pod gives similar metrics in terms of foot strike, time on ground etc. I haven't found any of them useful.

      Running dynamics were made an ANT+ broadcasting standard back in 2017. Since then all the brands have been *able* to use that open standard to read and record that data. I can't speak to the proprietary software that Coros might use for sport metrics, but it should be recorded to be synthesized by a software capable of using running dynamics. They have their own branded pod capable of gathering those metrics, so I would assume their software would use it... the watch WILL record it. The Polar has been a bit of a lagging brand in this regard, it only pulls cadence which pre-dates running dynamics as its own metric. The reason being is that Polar was a staunch ANT+ holdout for years. They stubbornly believed that BLE would replace ANT+. They gambled and lost. ANT+ still remains the superior standard years later as it is much more mature and the technology is more appropriate to fitness devices. ANT+ can record and more importantly *store* large amounts of data. BLE only transmits, relying on the watch or application to store and collect it. This is why you find that programs like zwift or strava will only grab the basics, Bluetooth devices can't pick up advanced dynamics and they don't want to try to program in the advanced metrics graphing for ANT+ (low priority). ANT+ wraps the whole file into a nice little package with a bow and hands it to the recording device meaning that devices that use ANT+ can take that data and actually do something with it. Polar didn't accept ANT+ and start to incorporate it until 2019 so they are on the backfoot and many of their devices are not ANT+ capable. It doesn't surprise me that Michael couldn't get it to show up. In his case, it didn't record - he could however, pair that HRM to another device and dump the data to get it. Hope this helps.

      @@kofuzi The Wahoo team replied to my query saying the Tickrx broadcasts Running Dynamics using standard ANT+ protocol.
      So as long as COROS uses a standard ANT+ model to capture and display in its data fields it should work.
      If @kofuzi can confirm that in any COROS watches it would be great.

    Try to pair your Polar watch and Tickr X using Ant+ connection instead of bluetooth. Had the same experience with Garmin's FR745. With bluetooth it won't shows any running dynamics.
