Hey Clive, this has nothing to do with the video but I just want to thank you for your content. Your chill and grounded attitude, your informative and funny videos, your passion for your profession are highly appreciated. Your content calms me down and cheers me up. It sounds weird but you're somewhat of a role model. I am glad to share the planet with you.
They keep evolving, and at the moment they returned to PoD devices, but with much better mass-produced controllers, somewhat better design and batteries. Imagine they started producing disposable vaping pens with Lithium batteries inside.
@@jkobain - salts also make switching from smoking much easier for a heavy smoker. I had tried on regular e-juice and didn't really have any success until I found 50mg juices. It's been a year and I'm now down to 24mg. I'm hoping to get to 0 by next year.
@@XianHaos it is only up to you to decide when and where. But I'm glad to hear that you stopped smoking - it mostly benefits the people around you. I myself suffer as a smoker in my past from current smokers anywhere near me - I start choking any time there's smoke in the air, I even can recall it during sleep because it brings up related images. Stay safe.

Wow. That's basically exactly the first e-cig I bought. Except mine was a much dummied down one without the nifty cig case. Also those cartridges are much juicier than ones I had. Mine were just slightly wetted cotton inside. Gas station special.
We really live in a world where 'musicians' can swear and use provocative imagery and mention the use of illicit substances and are fully monetized and are available to everyone who uses this platform, but someone mentions the evil "V" word or does a review on smoking cessation devices for educational purposes gets demonized or worse. Thank you for all the videos you do and for showing us how some of the things in our world work. ❤✌
@@kevinbissinger Private or not, it's still one rule for them and another for us. Even though it's their choice, it's worth criticising as much as any other opinion.
@@kevinbissinger The problem with that theory is that 4 companies effectively control all of what can be said, at least in the west. They have so much power it is akin to the government banning certain things being said. If these companies want to be protected from libel laws then they should be legally required to protect free speech.
I had one of those (not identical but very similar) when they were first rolling out. I got it shortly after my state had banned smoking indoors and I had it with me one night at a bar. I was sitting at the bar, pulled it out of my pocket, took a drag, then just stuck it back in my pocket before I thought anyone saw me. But, I happened to glance over and noticed a patron a few stools over staring at me wide-eyed with his mouth literally hanging open and he goes "WTF, man? Did you really just pull a lit cigarette out of your pocket then put it back in your pocket!?" What's crazy is that when the "atomizer" for that thing eventually died, a replacement, for JUST the ONE atomizer, was $45 not including shipping... $45 now could potentially buy multiple ecigs... I think I may still have it somewhere...
That is indeed a very impressive amount of seperation. I'm guessing they simply had the free space to play being designed to fit a standard packet size.
Almost enough to meet standards. I think 6mm is the rule to follow. Those chipless SMPS designs were in textbooks in the 1980s and were used in everything until dedicated mains rated SMPS chips became common.
Yeah, I remember such devices, even disassembled several pieces: they had a nickel-chromium heater winded up around a fiberglass wick. And a PoD pressure controller with an LED and a charge controller. Batteries in them died very, very quickly.
Awesome! I had one of those with a black and orange color scheme. Early ecig manufacturers were really weird with their designs. Super cool though. Fun fact... We used to remove the bridge and just drip liquid down into the atomizer... Essentially making the first DRIPPER. The flavor was far superior this way. There were even "bridgeless atomizers" being sold for a time. Oh how things have progressed lol.
I direct-dripped a 510 atty on an eGo batt for about 5 years - totally missed the whole tank revolution. I was agog when I first saw a device using one. 😃
Also s he said he was defusing the bomb as in disconnecting a lithium battery from a device did that a while back on one of those call dodgy Amazon Alexa headphones. Although they're just Bluetooth headphones with a dedicated button for an app for specific to those headphones evidently for Alexa it does not work with the dedicated Alexa app on Android either. But of course the headphones did work with Android. But anyways the point is with those headphones it's a very bad design. If I had had a second one I might have actually sent them to Big Clive. If I had the means to and if I had enough money and if I had already known about the issue I'm about to describe. But I said to at least two people that I had just diffused the headphone bomb or Defuse The Bomb inside the headphones referring to disconnecting as in cutting the wiring to the lithium cell. It was one of those normal lithium packs that's the soil type enclosure. Lithium-ion not lithium-polymer for clarification! The things with that that was a big issue is it was an unprotected cell for sure I peeped the world what was masking tape not even kapton tape. Absolutely no protection for the lithium cell just Tam's coming from the self that was it. That's only part of the issue. As of being stereo headphones there is two sides to it the varying cable that carries the audio to the opposite side where the Bluetooth and all of the Active Electronics are including charge control. Is connected over a 4-wire cable same as my be in a hands-free going to the tip ring ring sleeve 1/8 inch plug. As many people would wouldn't know how those can fail sometimes and often do. And of course that is bent every time you take on and off the headphones and many other times as well. And terrible strain relief as in almost no thought given to it. An excessive for points where the cable could fail due to flexing and other damage. And not to mention the very lightweight fine gauge wire protected only by a thin layer of enamel or lacquer insulation. Just a bid damaged in the right spot could very well wind up shorting out the lithium cell keep in mind that can happen when someone was wearing that said pair of headphones! Not good situation! I would prefer to have a pair that might be bit bigger versus doing that. Mine explain why I never saw those anywhere else but I got a good deal on them new in box. Also I had not even seen those on Amazon or anywhere other than that time. I'm wondering if the reason for that is a recall or they stop production or something along that lines. And if so chances are it was because their situation with the battery and the wiring to the other side!!! And also the switches were atrocious at least in terms of setup. They were those cheap nasty surface-mount Tac switches! Very similar to what's in a key fob except even worse than the nose were and the slightest mispress or misalignment or shifting of the buttons was causing damage. Even with normal use. Not to mention the ring the buttons would be constantly shifting out of place and on top of that getting stuck in depressed position. Consistently jamming up. Probably when the nastiest systems I've seen like that so far. And that's how I discovered how it had been put together like I'd said. Because eventually the buttons got in such bad shape I could not get them back in position but once I did after about 30 minutes messing with it. I realized the buttons are not working even in the right position. And I could not turn them off Noor activate one of the functions at all. Turns out both those buttons were compressed hard enough and messed up enough. That normally opens which became her permanently closed switch! I literally had to discombobulated two of the switches to open the circuit and then bridge out the one that controls power to turn it off. Then when I was scoping it out in there not a soul scope or anyting but just checking it out. I realized that battery plus and minus word at headphone Tidewater I'm like oh no I'm glad this happened so I'd be aware of this and from there I realized what was going on as stated above. So needless to say did not attempt repair immediately clipped the two leads to the battery of course only one at a time to avoid shorting out the cell. Black taping the two lead wires separately. And taking it to one of the battery places to have it probably taking care of in a responsible and safe way! People had suggested Home Depot and stuff like that but I knew that they would not take a wrong lithium battery like that. Had to do some calling around but I finally found a battery place that did that! Since I had no way to discharge that battery completely safely. Now if I'd already had my shop setup I would have been able to at least render it somewhat safer by discharging it. However was that type of wire and the terminals that if there was an issue I could have had a ticking timer on a incinerator device on my hands. And I don't have an explosion containment anything dish as of yet. That's in the works just in case seriously. Also any thoughts on using a metal ammo box for a bit of extra safety with small quantities of solvents lubricants and other smaller amounts of flammables. Not really for shop but at home I have some of the stuff I've used frequently?? I think that's the best thing I could come up with for this but no room for foremost cabinet or anything else like that unfortunately. But enough there that you'd want to ride some protection at least!
oh wow, that reminds me of the first 510 kit I bought when I started vaping. Yes that method was quite arse. It leaked, it gave inconsistent hits and the little carts and batteries didn't last very long. I had a separate USB charger the battery screwed in to, not the pseudo-ciggie pack. Oh and I did take the batteries apart after I retired them, and did short out the cell :) that was dramatic. Vaping was very DIY and changing constantly back then. Happy I stuck with it as I've been a non smoker for years now and I don't even bother to vape except very occasionally for the novelty of it.
It is interesting that they went to soooo much trouble to make them look like a cigarette, instead of taking the plunge and saying, screw it, this is new, and it is going to be a bit different. Well done Clive, I know that it is a huge effort for a video that is going to be demonitized anyway. I really appreciate the time and effort that you put in.
Its all pretty simple tbh...tho I spent 5 years studying electronic engineering and pc repair, comes in handy building wizardry stuff that most folks call "broken"
The 30 ohm resistor does not limit the current. The base emitter junction of the PNP transistor acts as a diode in parallel and will conduct lots of current even though the voltage across across it and the 30 ohm resistor doesn't rise much above about 0.8 volt.
rectified and smoothed AC mains is kinda 320V DC... mains AC swings up to that voltage and down to minus the same, we call it 230V AC bcs the effective "drive power" (called RMS) is like 230V DC... imagine the sine waves like ice cubes and they melt to obtain a water height of 230V, but they were higher if not melted (320V.... 350V is what Clive has at the isle of Man)... the ratio is 1.41 .... (230 * 1.41 = ~320)
The RMS value (240V here) is the average (Root Mean Square). To get the peak voltage which the capacitor will charge to, you have to multiply it by 1.41.
I found one of the modern disposable ones lying in the street the other day. I had no idea what it was at first, but my teardown was very similar to yours. The newer one had, as you said, a more integrated pressure sensor. Of course, it had no recharging circuit. Frankly criminal that these things are marketed as disposable. I got a handy 950mA lithium battery out of it, though.
That was really fascinating, watching while trying to diagnose my larger monitor, thinking it's a blown capacitor but only just got thr back off. Btw this is formerly Dave's DIY. Cheers for the share!💪 I don't think you deserve demonizing over this, it was really not at all a promotion. But I guess if TH-cam wants to keep being a select choice of words. 🙄
More like they simply can't or don't want to pay culturally similar humans to review everything and want to arbitrarily moderate everything using algorithms. I guess the result is the same.
There's well over 500 hours of video uploaded to TH-cam per minute, every single day. Trying to moderate that using actual humans would be like trying to hold back a tsunami with a child's bucket and spade, it's simply not possible.
Interesting note about the microphones: Just like that pressure switch, a condenser microphone also has a transistor inside it as a sort of internal amplifying element. The difference is that one uses the mylar foil as one of the plates of a capacitor, the other works as a switch when both touch. I bet, if you really wanted to, you actually could pick up sound with that pressure sensor, because that capacitance will always be there to some extent.
Weird question but - is there a reason you used an adaptor plug rather than plugging it directly into the HOPI? It looks like the HOPI will take any number of bizarre plug shapes!
I noticed you used an adapter for the vape. The HOPI seems to have a universal adapter already built in. Is it still necessary to use the adapter you used in order to correct the voltage or polarity?
Often you can avoid demonetisation by avoiding certain words in the first 30 seconds, or in thumbnails. I've seen people before do "Spotted ****" (Atomic Shrimp) to avoid such demonetisations.
Oh man, throwback to when I first switched to vaping and all you could get in Canada was a KR808 shipped from the US. The carts were just some cotton wick stuffed around a coil. At least you could refill them.
Interesting. I had something very similar from Blu many years ago. It was all black, slightly more rounded case, the battery and cartridges were both black and the battery had a blue LED on the end. It plugged in via USB rather than direct wall charging. The Blu pack had its own larger lithium battery in that empty space. I'd be willing to bet the batteries and cartridges would be interchangeable with this. It was a nice design but I was originally a pipe smoker so I switched to nice fancy wooden pipe vapes as soon as they were available.
I had this system (minus the carry box) around 10yrs ago. It was purchased to get me off the tobacco/cig's, and worked in that respect! It tasted so bad it was easy to give up around 6 months later. Worked a treat for me, never smoked another cig or vape since 😃👍
These style are still on sale, but they've ignored the case/charger combo and use a USB slug to charge. While the slug is smaller, once the battery is plugged into it, you've got something that sticks out a good 4 or 5 inches. Unless you've got a hub that allows it to charge in a vertical position, and supports it from underneath as gravity can pull the slug out if it's "upside down" due to the weight of the battery, it's an accident waiting to happen.
Funnily enough when I bought my last phone (from eBay) it came with a deathdapter as the power plug wasn't UK (but the phone was in the UK region, weird). I still use the deathdapter now. Tbh all OnePlus chargers can give you a _nasty_ zap when unplugged and so I assume they're missing a discharge capacitor... I'd love you to open one to confirm haha.
You can assign the dodgy looking, flash stained, piggy-back death adaptor to the dustbin. The Hopi has its own built-in death adaptor. Thanks for the videos, always interesting and always appreciated.
@@nemesis2264 Bingo be better to kill death deaf adapter then a perfectly healthy Hopi meter. Or here in the United States and also available in Canada. Kill the the kilowatt device. Also do they make a version of the Hopi meter that is designed for 120 volts 60 hertz for US market. And also I am looking into getting the modified version of Cliff quick test for the shop strictly for electrical test. The one with the u.s. colors of the the connections. I'm wondering if they'll ever come out with the US version that would just take a glass or ceramic fuse of the type used in u.s. equipment. Or after would be a way to adapt the what are the smaller fuses fit with some sort of adapter possibly? Either or do an inline fuse in the hot side of the circuit. And Bridge out the the phone holder for the European fuse? Also I run into this issue before is anyone aware of an adapter that would take a glass or ceramic fuse either in the one of the quarter-by-quarter or the next size down of standard fuse preferably she was older type similar to what rebounded on a chassis of a piece of equipment. To medium Edison screw base without doing something DYI but a commercially available product or plans for something like this if unavailable. The idea would be to use in a peaceful equipment not in a fuse panel. And also for test purposes since some of the fuses are harder to forget in the odd values these days. And also to offer better protection than just the Old Edison fuses. Also would be useful for some way that uses vintage equipment or Worse on jukeboxes or others and some old coin-op machines and many other applications like this! Would really appreciate any info put on this as well
I bought that same unit back in the day. I used it as a smoke source for custom robot toys and a even a paper craft space ship that I wanted smoke to come out of. Since I never clean off my work bench I think most of the case bits are still laying there under other projects bits.
I remember these 1st gen consumer ecigs, they where not so bad new but those battery's and the coil that would randomly go. I'm surprised no one got injured.
Clive. We need an analog Volt and Ammeter so we can see the current increase/decrease without the refresh rate of the Hopi. Possibly for situations like Electric Cake Batter or 240v Hot Dog Cooker
Yeah great idea thought about that a couple times as well even for my use in my shop even having a analog voltmeter and amp meter and if I could scrounge one up or out of something and AC wattmeter and yes and log AC watt meters actually exist or another option if you could find it which I have not as of yet. Is an AC voltmeter amp meter that has both Inda Kara needles opposing each other and the chart pretend integrated with the volts and amps for Watts at a glance. And no I'm not actually talking about earlier in this comment about a kilowatt hour meter but analog wattmeter that has both of voltage and current coil Andorra current Transformer or shunt but used on a AC 2 calculate watts in the analog domain you could say. Also trying to get my hands on a few old kilowatt-hour meters have an idea to do a coat tree that would look like an old street light post preferred old electric meter that would actually be functional. But wildly for 120 volts ac. A box with the photocell on top which would also control lighting as well. Mainly through a receptacle delphian to this coat tree. Utilizing Bronson porcelain insulators for the coat hooks. Which I do collection glass and Porcelain insulators. Utilizing a old school oblong or other vintage outdoor receptacle cover what the plate modified to take a dacor receptacle which would actually be hardwired USB charger receptacle. For charging things like headphones and keychain flashlights and such. The above leader would actually measure power used by the built-in lamp and also a low-level light they'll be controlled by the photocell. As well as switches to control both as well fan override switch and be able to switch the main lamp the photocell. And somewhere in a vintage electrical box of some sort. Have room for future smart Hardware as well. And of course a couple of receptacles which would also be connected the kilowatt hour meter. Preferably in an older style of socket. Another word something you might just find in Old Town somewhere but actually 100% functional in one way or another. Nav even on top insulator that would not be used for hanging for obvious reasons have what would look like what would have been used in the old times for the original wiring on insulators. Perhaps even if I could find it the housing or whatever from you'll series Street Lighting systems to run standard lamps from the series Street lighting system. If I can't find that an external ballast from an old fixture that would have been around that time. I've seen both of those in my old Hometown that one time. I once had an opportunity to get a series street light. And I knew they ran on a low voltage lamp and at that time the bulbs were readily available in that area. I was even thinking about doing a string of Christmas lights utilizing 18-volt switchboard frosted lamps but ran 12 volts for long life. For some reason one of our friends houses had low voltage 6 and 12 volt incandescent bulbs in some areas I believe it may have been some sort of emergency light system of some description possibly. From what I understand there was frequent power failures in the area they were located out of town and rural area as well. There was evidence of bus system in various buildings with batteries eventually I got the system working again for standby power for low-voltage loads including the battery operated fence charger since this was a form and yes that was the original one that was still working. Also the Pulsar was actually a turn signal flasher module!!!! It looked similar to so we didn't hold together Wilson ignition coil in a few other parts but looked a bit like it was commercially made but who knows. There was two huge insulators coming out of it in one way or another. Almost look like what was on a miniature oil switch for utility purposes. And the interesting thing is there was also next to it box with a large insulator and antenna. And there was a silver box elsewhere I checked it out and sure enough it was some sort of primitive remote switch. There were a few vacuum tubes in each. Apparently this was not a one-way deal it could indicate the status of the unit at the other end as well and if it had been turned off locally there was a red and a green and a Amber or yellow indicator. At that in in the opposite end of the system there's a wall plate with the same and a switch or two as well. And there was also a lightning arrestor on the electric fence that remind me of the horn Gap although more closely resembled a Jacob's Ladder. There was a coil and perhaps a resistor to ground. Also that was located inside a wooden box which makes me think that that was salvaged from something else it was not fitting to the Tom. It was much earlier kind of reminded me of the old birdhouse cutouts. It did have a label on it saying lightning arrester or similar. And there was all kinds of other weird and interesting gadgets and gizmos not the only place I've seen that had someone that was obviously ahead of their time moving or staying there
I know I have said it before, but damn it, it must be said...💖YOU ARE AWSOME!👏 Your videos 'taking things to bits' are the most educational entertainment I can think of. If the morons who run broadcast television were to put content like this on, I might actually watch. Thanks for your effort and time!
I still have a bunch of 808 style batteries and refillable carts sitting around. I'm still old school and using variable voltage E-go style batteries and tank.
Ah memories of 2012 I remember these electronic Ciggies. I had a similar box but was for a brand Electronic Lites. they had a little red or green light to replicate the ignition on puffs.
I remember seeing these e-cigs at kiosks in the mall right around 2007-2008 or so. I don't recognize the charge pack but the vape & cartridges were definitely all over advert signs nearby
I used to have a pack style e cig/charging set up like this around the same time. Man it was awful for actual vaping but the actual design behind it was a pretty cool idea.
Wow I love this device I switched from cigarettes to vaping about 5yrs ago after being a two pack a day smoker for 12yrs. People dont understand harm reduction and think vaping is as bad or worse and its definitely not if you know what you're doing. Always love your content god bless us all
I remember scan computers was selling something very similar around that same time, maybe around 2010ish. No idea if it was from the same manufacturer, but looked very similar in that it was imitating a real cigarette like this.
Hi clive; i've heard you call it glycol a couple of times but just "glycol" is normally taken to mean ethylene glycol (as probably the simplest member of the family) which is pretty nasty stuff. Vape juice is based on propylene glycol, glycerol ("propanetriol") or mixtures thereof. You might not expect an extra carbon atom to make such a big impact, but when strategically placed it makes all the difference.
There are many glycols. I wouldn't automatically assume that a glycol is specifically ethylene glycol. It could also be triethylene or butylene glycol, both of which are used in fog fluids.
Hi Clive. I really love your videos, have been a fan for quite a while now. Your technical insights and your naughty humour keep me coming back for more, I also find your voice extremely calming in this busy noisy world. I am 43 now and smoked heavily from the age of 13, now with 11 months off the ciggies and vaping instead I feel much better for it. I started off on 18mg nicotine tobacco flavoured but switched to 6mg fruity flavours a few months ago. I say make it strictly available to adults only and keep kids off the nicotine altogether. Of course there will always be devices falling into the wrong hands but limiting flavours/ejuice strength/tpd tank size for adult vapers is not the answer. Making suppliers accountable for proper age verification and education for youth into the dangers/side effects of both smoking and vaping is the best way forward imho. If any government is going to ban anything to do with vaping they should start by banning tobacco first. #adultslikeflavours #ftpd. Thanks Clive.
Neat aesthetic design, form factor to fit a standard pack size might help provide more comfort for a smoker to transition. I know several people who carry a little leather cigarette/lighter bag, so could help give a more substantial alternative experience.
Ahh, the venerable M-series. These were quickly supplanted by the 510, which introduced the vaping community to the potential of refilling the carts. The old 510 kit I started with came with a similar charging box, but it also contained a battery in the case so you could recharge the actual vaporizer battery "on the go". While I quickly moved on from there, that little thing got me to quit smoking cigarettes literally overnight. It's been 11 years now, so it did it's job.
Not on topic, but - how small an object can you make with a 3D printer? How hard would something 6mm high x 10mm diameter with a screw thread be? Maybe I should ask on the next live stream eh?
You can make small things. You could literally make a 3mm washer. I recently made a coin mechanism insert for one of my machines and the design also printed four stepped pins to insert into the side for mounting.
I had one like this in the US circa 2009. The cartomizers didn't need piercing with any 3rd adapter, though. The light on the battery stick would blink during charging then stay steady when charged. I remember the battery getting me through about half a day of smoking. I replaced it with a vivi nova and ego-t when they came out because they were refillable. I eventually stopped vaping because I started developing a reaction to Propylene Glycol. Pure VG didn't bother me.
Clive when you have finished your dismantling of all the devices. The items that you can't re-build and there circuitry inside that is still in working use. Do you re-use those circuits, for example, the built in power supplies. To use them for the output voltages in your own projects that you build? Maybe you could show some of those repurposed circuit's in action.
I used to have one of those 10 years ago. Not with that box but exactly the same including the interior and the several filters. Was nice for the nice 5-10 puffs. Then it died.
Please could you do a video about the various different voltage dropping methods (transformers, capacitive droppers, etc) and explain how and why they work.
Strangely enough, I found the insides of one of those e-cigs lying in the road a couple of weeks ago. The battery, controller, heater and pressure switch were all intact and undamaged but any casing had presumably been run over. The tiny led was still flashing occasionally otherwise I would not have seen it.
I had something very similar to this around 2009-2010. The white cigarette part screwed into a USB to charge (similar to cheap vapes today). Mom found it one day plugged into the back of my wii and asked what it was, I was 16 at the time, I told her it was a wifi antenna and she bought it. The cartridge pack, when you first inhale, you had to really pull in order to *pop* it, then the menthol is free. There was a lot of vapor that came out and the tip glows red because it was designed to simulate smoking to help break addiction. Apparently the subconscious triggers like seeing the glow, blowing out the vapor, the white stick itself, etc was nearly as addictive as the nicotine itself and you'd have a more difficult time quitting without these extra triggers.
Can big Clive or his community help me with ‘Functional earth’ explanation? I see alot of electronic equipment with a Earth / Ground terminal. Can these be connected to the same earth path and the electric supply earth? Expamle. Fused spur feeding, sockets. Connected to the sockets is, alarm panel, POE switch etc. The earth terminals on the circuitry of the alarm panel, or the earth terminal on the casing of the switch. Can these be connected to the CPC terminal at the fused spur? Many thanks in advance, Richard
If mains powered equipment has a metal case and a means for earthing it then there should be an earth terminal in the vicinity of the supply terminals. The term functional earth is quite specialist and may relate to a type of minimalist power distribution system or the earth current path for mains filters.
@@bigclivedotcom Thank you for your response Clive. So when installing electronic equipment, with an earth terminal on the PCB board. Where do this require connecting to? If all electronic equipment, form a loop separate from the supply CPC. Will these loops eventually meet back at the MET. Thanks
Wow, reminds me of my original blu. Where the pack held a battery that recharged one of two tips with space for cartridges as well except this looks much scarier.
Clive, Why not use the Manx words for the key words that trigger the no-money results? Put the english equivalents on hand written signs over your shoulder, on the video, so that scanning the video won't result in a "trigger".
My neighbor gave me a couple of these along with some charging cables that plug into USB. The battery part has an led built in so the tip glows red when you draw on it. They'd been sitting so long the the cell was flat, and I thought I'd have to scrap them because they wouldn't charge. I took one apart and while probing around, I discovered that if I momentarily bypassed the charge chip while it was connected to the charger, it would give the cell just enough voltage to wake up the charge circuit and I was able to recharge them.
The pressure sensor is interesting, I wonder if it actually is an electret mic (which have an internal FET as a preamp). I know these things have a DC offset at the output when operating as a mic. It seems likely that a pressure difference between the outside of the capsule and the sealed reference chamber behind the diaphragm would cause this DC to vary. I'll have to try it...
In this case it's purely the diaphragm being separated from the case by a wafer thin ring, so it flexes under air pressure difference and triggers the unit.
Bit off-topic but your user Avatar or image whichever TH-cam calls it's still shaky on that term for TH-cam and Google for that matter. And your username neon time. Is that vacuum tube supposed to be an image of a voltage regulator tube? Also once I ran across this place that hand multiple two bases in wall plates spread throughout the place. And someone asked me what that might be for and I investigated they were thinking about just trying to prove it and see where it went or if you're connected or whatever and I said please don't do that because depending on what it is it could have high voltage theoretically present on some of the connections. In actuality when the that circuit for every one of them was energized if the tube was inserted you get around 220 volts or so out the voltage for your tubes had to Children's at least that were connected straight through through to disconnect power from the power transformer generally of the device if the voltage regulator was removed from circuit aka the socket to provide protection from unregulated B+! In this case it was disconnecting yet so there was no high voltage present if the socket was empty. And yes all those sockets work connected through voltage doublers inside the junction box attached to the cover plate. At first I'm when took one of the covers off I'm like what the heck is this circuitry for but I realized it was a voltage Doubler. But the use of it stump me for a bit. But there was no power coming in at the time. As well as all the wiring was run box-to-box confirm that it the same wiring ran from box to box and there was at least a couple Joshua boxes as well. That that's the only thing in that long run of wiring. Which again kind of stump me. When I went to the basements I realized there was some stuff down there that would be a timer and also photocell in a few switches in a few other things all tie together. That obviously was meant to control lighting when the sun went down or after a certain time whichever came first oriya full movie dark out an override the timer and one switch said manual off auto. It was in the off position at that time. And there were certain Outlets that never do have power before then as well. Also I did find a box of several of the same type of voltage regulator tubes like why would that be here took out one of them and realize wait a second is this something to do with this and I was thinking wait a second you can use these is a neon bulb. And then it kind of clicked that wait a second with his fancy lighting control and this I wonder is this what fits those sockets specifically for that purpose. Turns out bingo voltage regulator Night Lights! Built-in to the place at that. It also controlled one outdoor light in each area where there was willful outdoor lights and not only that but there were some switches that had three Physicians elsewhere in the place that were also connected through some other circuitry and wound up going to this lighting control system. An interesting Lee enough Soma Elwood's were wired in a wage we switch between that and manual control or just on and other outlets forward strictly to the control circuitry. However there was a box on the wall compelling contactors in some other electronics that this and other things were tied through as well and there was what looked like something from an old computer system or perhaps an old electronic organ reset combination action kind of thing. That hand single insulated ended pins that could be inserted the clothes different sets of contacts for assigning different things to different operations. I never seen anything like that before or at least at that time yes I'm more Manor. And other automation old and automation goodies as well as well as it did have the old 24 volt 50s and 60s low voltage switching which solo this were tied into this and similar things as well However the most interesting thing is about that place in the hallways and on the stairs if you were to put your hand near the railing or slightly near it don't remember where is he trigger plate wire metallic foil would be located too many years ago. But in those cases when your head your hand on the railing or near it or in the case of the hallways along a certain place on the wall the lights would automatically come on. Basically early momentary touch light switch. Surprisingly everywhere there was tubes most we're still operating to that day. And also a wealth of spare tubes and parts! As well as some sort of remote control or signaling Hardware that was apparently Wireless although I only found the receiver at that time. In a closet box with a big insulator and a long antenna. But I made sure to disconnect that Not only was it a receiver it was a transmitter. And also at that time that I had discovered it that was on a band of radio that was used for communications and also required an amateur radio license!!! I think it one time either someone had a radio license and yes although this look custom but not everything. It was built like out of modules I can see an old alarm systems definitely the DYI approach for some of them. They were the old phenolic Bakelite or whatever same stuff is Old Tube sockets basically on waferboard or whatever you want to call it. Will screw terminal blocks like that of speakers. Anywhere from 2 or way more terminals in that. And also live 120 volt in addition to low voltage on said terminals. As you know back in the day that was acceptable It generally if you use certain equipment the people that would use it would be well aware that you don't go putting your fingers in back of the equipment since they would very much know what voltages and currents were present expose connections. Such as on some old radio receivers and transmitters there will be raw AC power going to possibly an antenna relay or other equipment just to screw terminals like that little speaker terminals. Also my folks to use an old waffle iron roughly a hundred years old still makes the best waffles ever. However you never put your fingers anywhere near the power input since there is a removal cord however around that there is nothing no cover guard around the terminals which are basically bolts with connection pins. And there was never a guard or provision for one of them. Also I do believe I found the toaster that might go with that make of a plants from the same company thrift store once. Plug-in cord was identical but I do not remember if it had does a plug or not worth is hardwired into it. And also it had the exact same type of male plug on the cord as well a bit much better condition as in actually safe to use. I do remember changing the power plug on the waffle iron yeah it was falling apart. Not surprisingly. That had been given to us many years ago been going strong ever since. Works better than other waffle irons we've used before! They don't make them like that anymore and most not as good. Well I've waffled on enough I think
Even though they are just plain nasty in every imaginable way, you have to give them a high design and cuteness rating. The case alone and how it's configuration would make the "sucker" feel like they have a real pack of cigarettes deserves a pat on the back. Thanks for ripping this to bits for us to see.
Have some of that type --not the box holder, but the battery and cartridges. the carts were "non refillable" although i filled them through the top anyway. the auto draw ones fail quickly. i tried to take it apart, and it was as destructive as your example and i didn't get much from it.
Over here in the US, we had things like these from the company Blu, which I found very interesting in the same mindset as you, fun for the novelty and other uses like easing up on snacking, albeit with zero nicotine carts. They had the same basic design of the pseudo cigarette case but a Micro-USB port for charging instead of built-in prongs. The other day I noticed Blu had changed on to the current disposable-esque cart-style vapes a la juul and their ilk which was interesting to see.

Those chipless SMPS designs were in textbooks in the 1980s and were used in everything until dedicated mains rated SMPS chips became common.

"What kind of bomb is it?"
"The exploding kind."

That is pretty much what all bombs are designed to do. However some may not because of bad build quality.

He does look a wizard!
That electronic testing device gave me "back to the future" chills, love it!
Thanks for taking your time to 'take it to bits'. Very interesting (even at 3AM !)
The detailed schematics are excellent. Helps to see it as well as being explained. Good job, again.
I’m trying to work out how you got 350v @ 8:35 into the video? Wonder if you can help me on this please Clive?
rectified and smoothed AC mains is kinda 320V DC... mains AC swings up to that voltage and down to minus the same, we call it 230V AC bcs the effective "drive power" (called RMS) is like 230V DC... imagine the sine waves like ice cubes and they melt to obtain a water height of 230V, but they were higher if not melted (320V.... 350V is what Clive has at the isle of Man)... the ratio is 1.41 .... (230 * 1.41 = ~320)
it is the peak voltage from 240v ac sine wave. grtz from Belgium
The RMS value (240V here) is the average (Root Mean Square). To get the peak voltage which the capacitor will charge to, you have to multiply it by 1.41.
Thanks all for your reply’s that help me out. 👍

Do you technically need the deathdapter for the Hopi? It looks like it already has the same inputs the deathdapter does.
I used to have an old box like that for my ancient M203 unit (I think that was what the model was). Back when RY4 was one of the top selling flavours.
That was really fascinating, watching while trying to diagnose my larger monitor, thinking it's a blown capacitor but only just got thr back off.

@@sixstringedthing wow. That's a LOT of video. I had no idea. May I ask what's your source? Not doubting your word, just curious.

Yup, same threading and these ones were the parents of the KR808's we could get in NA.
These were most likely to be m401 threads here and wouldn’t fit the KR808d threads 😟

It was purchased to get me off the tobacco/cig's, and worked in that respect!
It tasted so bad it was easy to give up around 6 months later.

I remember these early slim vapes and carts but never had a set in such a nice case with integrated charger
I’m confused why did you plug it into the death-daptor? The Hopi has the same receptacles
Spacer.
The device has an American plug on it. That means the input voltage would be 120 v 180v pk, are you using 220 volts input for your calculations?
It's a Chinese 220V plug. I used 240V for my peak voltage approximation.
@@bigclivedotcom I see!
We got those in South Africa, Not the same fancy holder but we got the cartridge, the long white bit and a usb charger,
I had one like this in the US circa 2009.
I do keep some circuitry, but the power supply in this device would not be safe for most projects.
Why do you need the deathdapter when the Hopi has a multi country socket?
Spacer.
I used to have one of those 10 years ago. Not with that box but exactly the same including the interior and the several filters. Was nice for the nice 5-10 puffs. Then it died.
why would you use an adapter on the HOPI when (it looks like) it already is an adapter???
Please could you do a video about the various different voltage dropping methods (transformers, capacitive droppers, etc) and explain how and why they work.
It's been 9 hours since your video was published and so far has not been demonetized! Nice!
It's on restricted advertising.
@@bigclivedotcom oh well... it was beautiful while it lasted 😩

Many thanks in advance,
Richard
I find it amazing to see what the industry will go thru to make money and have a smoke at the same time.
Nothing like a nice Big Clive video to end the day on. Also yeah, the separation is pretty good. Cheers
End the day? It's just starting...
@@vtbn53 technically correct either way depends on what time zone you're in
Also I'm running down for to get some shut-eye as well maybe a few more videos just depends on how it goes.
I used to use ones like this. Antique eh... It's fun realising how old your getting
Iam in the usa and I've been vapeing for years and have never seen or heard of this before iam amazed 💯.
Clive,
Why not use the Manx words for the key words that trigger the no-money results?
Put the english equivalents on hand written signs over your shoulder, on the video, so that scanning the video won't result in a "trigger".
That case is aesthetic af.
Where can I get my hands on one of these?
It's obsolete now, but they might still be available from China.
My neighbor gave me a couple of these along with some charging cables that plug into USB. The battery part has an led built in so the tip glows red when you draw on it. They'd been sitting so long the the cell was flat, and I thought I'd have to scrap them because they wouldn't charge. I took one apart and while probing around, I discovered that if I momentarily bypassed the charge chip while it was connected to the charger, it would give the cell just enough voltage to wake up the charge circuit and I was able to recharge them.
we had similar thing in UK, it's called SkyCig, almost identical construction and principle
And other automation old and automation goodies as well as well as it did have the old 24 volt 50s and 60s low voltage switching which solo this were tied into this and similar things as well
However the most interesting thing is about that place in the hallways and on the stairs if you were to put your hand near the railing or slightly near it don't remember where is he trigger plate wire metallic foil would be located too many years ago.
I remember starting with those ,, I kinda miss them not to replace my current setup ( Aegis pod pro ) but just to feel nostalgic
Why the adaptor? The Hopi has one built in?
Spacer.
Great video I've got some of these in my cupboard and never used them. Great video buy the way
Hey, Clive.
Could it be an ultrasonic emitter to vaporise the liquid like a garden pond mist device does?
The first Ruyan devices were ultrasonic. The wick and heater is MUCH simpler.
Videos are great. You may need to change the foreground colour. It makes hard to see things clearly. Just a suggestion.
It seems like the Hopi have a Deathdapter already built in? :-)
