Great advice. Early on I had the opportunity to play banjo as a street musician, and that can be a lot of fun, if not a lot of money. I studied music theory in college so I had an advantage there. Music theory does not, however, have to be that complicated. Just start out learning about the tonic, forth and fifth chords and that will cover about 90% of all banjo music.
I appreciate the video! I just got a banjo about two weeks ago and have been messing around with it and trying to learn basic chords and rolls. I'm happy to have found your channel and am excited for the banjo theory videos!
great video! always good to hear tips from more seasoned players early on with our own journey. i know i have been overwhelmed due to all the videos available, books etc... 100 ways to skin a cat so to speak! lol i have been lucky to find a good teacher that wants me to have good music theory, not just read tabs. also i have walked around a lot in my home with the banjo playing it which has helped my accuracy greatly, i even watch myself in the mirror sometimes! lol i need to find jam sessions and or play with a guitar player or someone to help me with my timing and rhythm. i have a long way to go but i am enjoying the ride!
I really want to learn the banjo. I don’t want to play bluegrass. I don’t like bluegrass or country music. But the banjo has such a unique sound to it! I would love to just play the banjo
they should start around the middle of jan. I have 15-20 videos to do right now on music theory. Depending on the response i get from them i may do more
@@BanjoAddict "...Depending on the response i get from them i may do more". ok, count on my response for doing more! i'm looking forward to this series! thanks! although i have a rudimentary knowledge of music theory, i REALLY lack in the practical outworking of it.
Play outside! Yes! Theory is important, but chases people away if done too early or often. I know this from teaching guitar. Learn a song you want to play and practice that. It will take you through chords and a little theory...
Will look for your music theory vids now. Just bought a banjo, retired, 60 years old snd always loved the banjo sound.

I agree music theory can be scary I'm just trying to get into it so all help is appreciated
Hopefully my music videos will begin Jan 14th.
Were I live, if you are playing banjo in the park, you get beaten up. ❤️🎸😂😂.
Nice! I just did a video like this for mandolin and my one take was working harder on my fourth finger and drilling more on scales in thirds.
that sounds interesting! i will have to check that out!

I like that strap. Where did you get it? I don't like the one Deering sent me with my banjo.
It’s a Deering brown stitched strap. I got it from banjo.com
