By reading the title, Im really amazed by what his dad accomplished, but then his dad go on and said prior to this game , tal beat him 0-4. Just shows also how humble the dad is , and reminds me that Tal is still the monster lol

My dad is an amateur chess player (he is 73 now and today is his birthday) and he, as a young lawyer, was involved in organization of two big tournaments in my country back in the 80s, with Tal, Korchnoi, Petrosian, Kasparov, Spassky, Timman, Andersson...playing. As an organizer, he (even for brief time) met them all and used to tell me stories about how they were.
He told me that Tal was the kindest person ever and a monster only at the chess board - he was genuinely nice and harmless in real life. After his tournament game, Tal used to go to hotel restaurant, eat something, order a bottle or two of wine, take the chessboard and clock out and played blitz and traded jokes with whoever wanted to play (grandmaster or beginner alike) till dawn.
Korchnoi and his assistant (who later became his wife) were like prima donnas, very demanding and sometimes unpleasant to deal with, but he told me Korchnoi had very witty, dark sense of humor. Also, during the tournament Korchnoi was also playing a simul against hundred or so players, and one of his opponents tried to cheat. While Korchnoi was away, opponent moved Korchnoi's rook to a different square (favorable for the opponent). When Korchnoi came to the board, he immediately took the rook and threw it in opponent's face :)
During one of the tournaments, Kasparov, who was 19 or 20 years old, had a passionate affair with a local girl and, because of it, was so inspired he actually crushed the field with +8 or +9 score. However, the problems started after the tournament was over - Kasparov wanted to stay with the girl (who was an university student or something like that) and didn't want to leave the country, so his mother Clara had to put her foot down :)
Of all the players my father disliked Petrosian the most (he told me Petrosian was a, quote, "complete a-hole towards everybody") and liked Swedish gm Andersson the most. They were (and still are) about the same age and my father managed to draw against Andersson in a clock simul. They made friends after that and hung out together quite a lot while the tournament was on. My father always used to say he would get in contact with Ulf if he ever visited Sweden, but so far he didn't have that opportunity...

Imagine being Korchnoi, a great player who never won the world championship. He must have been a guy full of resentment and it must have affected him to have seen how all his contemporaries of the same level achieved it.

Beautiful game! Tal became a defensive player from the beginning of the game. No counter play from one of the greatest attackers of all time. He must've hated that.
More pops! Anna, you are in such a unique position. We would love to see you do three series simultaneously, one centering on your father's matches with other famous players, one on your mother and her story as one of the first female grandmasters, and your story about reaching IM of WGM. You would be doing such a service to the world of chess. In only a couple years, you would have quite an archive, a first hand recount of chess spanning almost 100 years.

I love this idea. I think he would be even better able to eloquently express his thought process in that format and we'd have the opportunity for good subtitles (the auto-generated ones are horribly inaccurate). Win-win.

There's no shade in that comment, it's a compliment.
The reason is that if both opponents are skilled enough, with an extra piece or two, it is simply a matter of time before victory is earned, so it's simply acknowledging the obvious.

Listening to her dad's reasoning and his vision of everything on the board even simple things like not giving up control of e5 with his pawn then pushing for c5 so he could break the structure. It is actually mind blowing to me that's not how I think when I play chess at all really shows how much skill GMs have compared to everyone else who just plays chess.
