    That is always the funniest thing, when I scout out the new tracks for my track walks.
    There are a couple of other tracks, mainly dirt oval, where I really had to think about how the pitroad works.

    1:50 - That's not true actually, but it's probably the only one where you regularly get pits during the race on it. Southern National has two separate pit lanes, and South Boston has two separate pit roads that literally cross over each other! You'd perhaps never know if you only ran them once or twice as they're short track that don't usually run long races, so you never actually pit. It did however screw me over once when I accidentally hit one of the pit exit cones on Southern National, giving me a black flag 😭
    The real king of weird pit roads for me is Oxford Plains. I don't think I've ever seen a pit road that starts as one, and then splits into two different pit roads on separate routes, and then merges back together again. You can literally miss your pit stall by taking the wrong path!

    They could do a Bristol-style pit situation for Road Atlanta if they wanted. Chaos would inevitably ensue, but it would just be the standard multi-class fare at worst.

    Fun story about Bristol: 3 years ago when it was Bristol week every oval series had Bristol with the normal single pit lane. All but one series: A Open. Yup, somehow everything else, even A fixed, had the right single pit layout but if you wanted to do some open racing then you had to learn the dual system

  • @emobassist
    @emobassist ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ahh the old back stretch pit lanes at Bristol I remember a time before NASCAR made the rule you had to go through the entirety of pit road and could just pit off turn 2. This really put drivers at a disadvantage at the time

    While not an Iracing circuit (yet) The new downtown Detroit street circuit will have IndyCars peeling off both right and left. This is because the pitlane very short but also extremely wide. Will be the first time a major series does this. Only other time I can think of is the "Gilligan's Island" pit road at Sears Point back in the day. But that was 2 separate pit lanes.

    • @maxb148

      I know ALMS and IndyCar had both side pits at the Baltimore Street track. It wasn't half and half I think it was like only 3 pit stalls on one side and everyone else on the other.

    My home track had a double sided pit road (one lane, both sides) and they had to run noncompetitive pit stops and couldn’t count caution laps. It was down the middle of the infield, you entered between 3 and 4 and exited between 1 and 2.

    The assetto corsa mod for COTA east has the pit lane in the run-off on the last corner of this layout, the one before the hairpin
    Only thing is the mod creator did not seperate pits, so if you go wide pit limiter engages
    Still, if you just added a concrete wall there it make for a perfectly servicable pit lane

    Honestly Bristol's dual pit lanes are nowhere near as bad as they were back in the day. Getting a backstretch pit stall was once a death sentence thanks to 2 rules. The first was that you didn't have to drive thru both pit lanes under caution, you just drove down whichever pit your box was on. The second was that the first cars allowed to pit were the cars that had front stretch pit stalls. In other words, if you had a back stretch pit box you would have to wait at pace car speed while all the front stretch drivers pitted and then you would come around to get your chance to pit. When the front stretch guys were done they could accelerate back up to rejoin behind the pace car and would effectively jump anyone with a back stretch pit.

    Check out Legacy Silverstone Southern. The pit road and pit out aren't too bad, but the pit in? 90 degree left through a bit of tarmac barely wider than your car right on line for the entry to Stowe, OR.... a 1x over some very bumpy runoff. Either way, truly fantastic
    Barcelona Club is also tied for first with an M shaped pit road, and Snetterton 100 isn't far off
    The old Suzuka West pits were good too. Basically a reverse of the Legacy Charlotte Infield. Wall in the center, pit stalls left and right of it, merging just before the one lane pit out. Sadly that got patched out about a year ago
    Rockingham Infield Short is possibly the slowest pit lane. 15mph limit

    • @DJYeeJay

    Here's the thing with the Hell RX pit road. This is a rally cross track, and they don't pit at all during the real race. Plus there are only, at most, six cars ever on track racing at the same time.
    Been a while since I watched real RX action though, so maybe that changed.

    • @DJYeeJay
      @DJYeeJay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hell RX road short is actually a full road course configuration in iracing. It’s very janky and never used, I actually covered it in a previous video. It’s a rally track for all intents and purposes, but it’s all tarmac so iracing designates it as road

    I expected to see Oulton Park in this list, because there it is almost impossible to get in the first pit stall without using the reverse gear.

  • @SodawarsGaming
    @SodawarsGaming ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've done a league race that required pit stops (multiple! we were using the RX cars and it turns out those bad boys can only go a few laps at a time...) at the Charlotte infield course. It was just as horrifying as one might expect. The people with the first and last stalls on the right hand side are particularly fucked since they have to take harder turns than anyone else.
    Edit: also ran a league race on müllenbachschleife where I ended up pitting multiple times for fast repairs (the very cursed car class list included TCR, LMP1, and the Beetle Lite). That was also awful though TBH not really any worse than the corners you skip by taking the pit lane, especially with multiclass racing and cars like the LMP1 that simply cannot turn that sharply.

    You should take a look at Legacy Silverstone Southern layout, instead of taking Stowe, you have to take the tightest left entry ever off to the side of the corner as to not get a pit road penalty and the pit road is the runoff area between Stowe and Club

  • @Solar424
    @Solar424 ปีที่แล้ว

    Martinsville had dual pits, but they've converted the backstretch pit area into more of a garage area, and safety vehicle lane.
    So did Rockingham (US). But I'm not going to include this.....
    --Because it's currently not on any major racing series. (NASCAR, ARCA, IROC, SRX, etc)
    -- And secondly, it hasn't been used in years prior to NASCAR's last race at Rockingham in 2006, or so.

      Oh dude I’m waiting! First and most important thing is really good physics and FFB, which suck in iRacing!
      The best on the market at the moment are the Rfactor2 physics, they should be at least as good as that because your game is 10 years newer, so basically they should be much better if you have the ambition to make a realistic game!
      Oh real physics means also real tires, because the iRacing tires are like a thin layer of rubber, no real durability, way too slidy and absolutely no sidewall feel.
      You should be able to race like in real life, which is on and sometimes a bit over the limit.
      But over the limit is just not possible in iRacing because of its way to slidy physics.

      @TChapman500Gaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rolux4853 I'm basically starting with the mechanics that are relatively simple to implement and prototyping with the Unity engine while I develop my own engine/framework, since that's basically the only engine I can afford to use to make my own games and it's the only one I know how to use.
      > "Oh dude I’m waiting! First and most important thing is really good physics and FFB, which suck in iRacing!"
      Finding any FFB tutorials for game developers is like finding a needle at the bottom of the ocean buried in a mile of sand. Guess what Unity does not support at all.
      > "The best on the market at the moment are the Rfactor2 physics"
      I'm a big fan of gMotor/isiMotor, but I cannot afford the license. I have no choice but to make my own engine, which has been a struggle to say the least.
      > "Oh real physics means also real tires, because the iRacing tires are like a thin layer of rubber, no real durability, way too slidy and absolutely no sidewall feel."
      The irony is that gMotor has the ability to simulate this with the much simpler tire model from rFactor 1.
      > "You should be able to race like in real life, which is on and sometimes a bit over the limit."
      Like in NASCAR SimRacing? Granted I think you can go too far over the limit in that game and still recover, but at least you can recover from it.
      > "But over the limit is just not possible in iRacing because of its way to slidy physics."
