- Reviewing the best mid-range Android smartphones of 2023 so far with my favourite camera tech, top gaming performance and brilliant battery life. For a budget of around £300-£500 UK you can grab the Pixel 7a, Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G, Xiaomi's Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and plenty more mid-range phones. These are the best budget-friendly mobiles I've personally reviewed here on Tech Spurt!
If you're after an even cheaper handset, check out my reviews and round-ups of the greatest Android smartphones under £300 and £200 too.
Manufacturers like Google, Nothing, Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme all offer a selection of compelling smartphones at a mid-range asking price. The Pixel 7a is still the best around for camera performance but rivals like the OnePlus Nord 2T and Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G aren't far behind. The Nothing Phone 1 & 2 offer unique features like that Glyph lighting, plus premium bits such as wireless charging.
Meanwhile the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus is a bit of a mouthful but also a great mid-range smartphone, boasting impressive specs for a budget-friendly cost. For less cash you can also grab the regular Pro (check out my full comparison review to see how they stack up). And that Poco F5 Pro is one of my favourites for gaming at this price point.
So many to consider, so which is your personal favourite mid-range mobile?

Fuiyooh!
Just a reminder: If you have a case on your phone, it won't matter if it "feels flagship" or not!
Yes it will you verified loser 😂
I used to think same,
But I feel otherwise now.
There is something about weight, screen or something which gives away that it is cheap or a flagship.
And usually color of phones body
The main purpose of buying a flagship phone for me is that It can run heavy games smoothly with no issue
Low weight because plastic is objectively better when using a case. Which everyone uses.@@I_Rasool
Keeping my eye on Motorola edge+ 2023 around the holiday sales in USA. I'm considering Moto edge+ 2023, Pixel 7 pro, Nothing 2, and Oneplus 11(I want wireless charging model released though)
Hey Uncle Spurt great video as always I just love hearing you talk about all the new phones the two phones that I like is as follows the Google Pixel 7a or the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G.
Definitely would be great if you can get your hands on nord 3, its hard to find good in depth reviews of that phone.
Another great collection I am pumped to see what is coming out in this quarter. I do like how the Nokia design has grown on me and the rest of the phones are splendid but at this price point it is hard to put down the Pixels longevity. Thanks Chris
Great, you mean like gym guys muscle pump!
the video sounded like i was listening to a podcast the microphone is superb and the phone selections are very nice
I have been following your reviews for a while, you reviewed the Redmi Note 11 Pro sometime ago. Last week I bought the Redmi. I am not used to it yet, but quite impressed
I subscribed today, been watching your videos for years but never done it, soz about that pal.
Anyway, your videos are brilliant.
This is a big help, thanks! :)
I would be interested in a Pixel 7a, but am put off by reading that you can't remove the Google search widget from the home screen, without adding a new launcher. Is this true? I use DDG, which means I would have a sizeable bit of home screen real estate which was unused. Keep up the good work, Chris.
this is what i was waiting for 🔥🔥
I swear, you going to have to start listing them animated movies.
Great vid as always
Great video as always, I'm due an upgrade, but I'm finding it very difficult to find an upgrade to my S21+ at a better price
Keep up your great work 👏
This is literally the video I was looking for, thank you so much!
Which phone did you choose after all?

Good ole spurt 1 million subs, was only a matter of time
When is the review for nord 3 coming?😅 really concidering that one
Hey where do u get those wallpapers... Great ones ... And kudos on 1M subscriber's 🎉
I dunno about the realme GT master edition
it would have been better if it was 12/256 but it's 8/256 which brings it back down on hardware. great camera and software, but that ram is quite bothering.
when I found out the china version, Im Impressed.
12/512 and Snapdragon 800 series, I'm sold, especially with
the OIS main Camera, and great selfie. with fast charging.
the leather back case is what hooked me with that phone.
the only thing left is a top up software, which is only china sold.
Fast I congratulate u for hitting 1m subs, then I thnk u for this good video u have made for the mid ranges though you have left other companies un mentioned likes of oppo, Vivo, Asus, ZTE,Sony, kyosera, Arrows sharp etc
Great video 👍
Would you still recommend getting poco devices? I was set on buying one until one seller said to not upgrade the os as there were too many issues
The nothing phones are growing on me. I'm not a fan of the size, but I constantly have my ringer volume low and my phone face down on my desk, so the glyph leds would actually be pretty useful in my case. Might consider them for my next upgrade. Although I'm not sure if they're useable on Xfinity.
Xfinity?
Cheers, on almost all you videos with mid-range phones, the Pixel 6a pops on almoat all of them. I'm really inclined on getting one and retire my redmi note 7 rocking Pixel Experience (working fine but getting a lot of hangs lately). I haven't just decided yet due to all negative feedback on Pixel 6a getting very hot, crashing and bugs... I'm not a power user, use my phone as a phone with casual family photos and videos, web browsing, and some Diablo Immortal playtime. Is the Pixel 6a really that bad on the long run? I live in Portugal and summer can get hot like 40c so I don't want to have a hot stone on my pocket 😅
Good review, keep it up
Please make review of honor 90 pro
Awesome work
Recently settled for the Poco F5 but I'll quickly switch if Pixels comes up with a decent gaming midrange. I like most things about the pixel except it's SOC that is still far behind the rivals.
Can we have a top 5 cameras in each price bracket Sláinte ☘️ Chris 🍻
nice video just curious about where you get your wallpapers from.
am a big fan. i enjoy your videos and found them usefull. and love that accent.
Kudos ! Please consider reviewing OnePlus Nord 3. Thanks.
How good is the Nothing Phone 2 camera?? I am really looking forward to get it, but the only concern I have about it is the camera quality...
please talk about if the boot loader is unlocked or not such an important point most TH-camrs miss
I bought a Xiaomi 11T a month ago, used, still with warranty for 160 euros. It's a great time to buy a phone I guess.
Seeing there is still SD 695 and 778G on the list..I assume that my LG v50s is still somewhat good for 2023 use..it has everything i need including memory card slot support..plus extra premium features like wireless charging and IP rating..
Yeah don't change the phone for the next 10 years bro ❤❤
I don't think you need to worry about processors too much anymore. The average user won't feel much difference between a midrange and a flagship phone in terms of speed. They'll all get the job done as long as you don't need it for heavy gaming. What you should worry about is security patches and software updates. I'm not sure if the v50 still has decent security patches.
I had the nord 2t for a year now. Still bloody good. Couldn’t be happier with it. Highly recommended
Good for gaming?

Do you recommend buying the pixel 7 for 470 euro? (over pixel 7a for 430 euro?)
Ahh chitoge and onodera wallpaper. What a nostalgic feel. I remember the harem war when nisekoi release.
I would appreciate if you would make a Blackview phone review. They are hard to get a grasp on
I am buying new phone, because my current mi 9t pro loosing signal.
I am search something with decent battery life and decent camera.
In this list in have couple of favorites, but maybe worth to buy new xiaomi 12t instead one of listed models or should i grab a54 or some alternative?
On a54 it is anoying because is not fluid working, when i compare my current phone.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks and best regards
Man i am confused between Samsung S21Fe(Snapdragon 888), Nothing Phone 1 and OnePlus Nord CE 3.please suggest
Loved that Wonder Egg Priority's Ai Ohto cameo
should i get samsung a54 or the pixel a7 i'm afraid the exynos has heating and battery issuies or should i get the samsung a52s for a lower price?
How much superior are these over Samsung s10 lite? Im looking to upgrade, I care mostly about the camera
I’ve narrowed it down to a Samsung exynos s21fe or nothing 1? Which is the better phone and battery wise? A54 is a 100€ more in my country so not an option.
I strongly advice against the OnePlus Nord 2T. I own a Nord 2 and my wife used a Nord 2t and we are so annoyed with the Phones the software is full of bugs and with every update you can reset your privacy settings and your notifications because they are overwritten. And the updates come very late. I have to restart the Phone at least once a day to have everything working.
v27 or f5pro or nord 3? i mainly use it for watching 4k video and taking photos
Xiaomi 13 lite vs poco f5 vs nothing phone 1! Which one do you recommend for daily use and overall experience?
I'm not gaming on a phone so processor isn't that important
Hi Chris, saw you were down my way in Follestone. What did you make of old place??
Tardy roll out on xiaomi phones is spot on uncle spurt I've got a redmi note 10 Pro running android 13 with miui 14 and I am running a may security patch so thank you xiaomi
I got June but that's still behind ig
Great vedio
A54 or redmi note 12 pro 5g (not plus) in terms of camera, fluency and speakers?
Would have been nice if you displayed the names of the phones while they were on screen.
Whats the best option here for gaming and support longevity?
I have a question, I don’t use the cameras that much and I just need good battery and good screen with good updates for a while. Which one would you recommend?
Samsung galaxy A54 5G
Or if you want something slightly cheaper, try the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G
Can you do the OnePlus 10 pro now like how it's holding up?
Im so excited to getting Honor 90. I cant afford high end phone but im sure it will make me happy after using oneplus 7 pro for years
Bro when are you reviewing the OnePlus nord 3?
Please review Nord CE 3. It deserve a mid range spot.
What watch are you wearing?
what android smartphone do you recommend between 250€ and 350€?
18:53 i subscribed just because of this line 😂😂😂😂
That Honor 90 is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.
How do i get a nothing phone 1 if I'm in Namibia... Do you do shipping?
I very nearly bought a Motorola but lots of the customer reviews say that the cameras are poor. Such a shame as they've released some phones with bloody good specs for affordable prices
Yayyyy you remembered the a54 this time but you still missed the a52s and the poco f3 still not happy with you for that lol
Can you review the Redmi K60 ultra thank you
Oppo reno8 5g is a fantastic option and currently on offer!
... I just got a Motorola edge 30 fusion a few months ago and am very happy with it.
Overall would go without a doubt the Pixel 7a...damn those sample shots were awesome!
battery life is awful
@@liamsxa do you have a 7a?
Samsung A54 😍 definitely getting.. but that aside, where can I find those spicy Anime Wallpapers
The oneplus nord 3 with the dimensity 9000 chip is a beast
Please help me, A54 or Redmi Note 12 Pro plus...
Please share your grievances with the iPhone se 22. I'm looking for a "never ever die" phone and folks tell me the iPhone can't die, especially now with the bionic chip. I also travel a lot and the esim support would be plenty useful. Please do comment. Appreciate your input.
We're do u get your wallpapers from I need em
Thanks alot
Best lcd panel phone for 2023? Samsung a14 5g, nokia g42, nord ce3 lite etc.?
Am I the only one saying cheers back to uncle spurt whenever he says cheers? 😂😂😂
My biggest problem is that I'm looking for a phone that isn't too tall, doesn't have a notch, I don't care about a camera so it doesn't need to be good, the resolution has to look "fine" but definitely good colour. And definitely not ever get hot to the touch (so not Samsung) and it must be android. So my budget is around £250-£300. Suggestions?
My phone has something like a Helio20 running it. And although apps are a little slow to get going. It does all I need.
I suggest when you test Genshin Impact, pls move to Sumeru, Inazuma or Fontaine. The impact on the phone is heavier than Monstadt/Liyue.
7:07 the nothing phone is all about tye led glyph feature tho lol 🤣. And the one thing about that phone nobody has spoken about is you cant have a case on it unless its see through
so which one is the best exactly?
It's gonna be long review from personal use, so be ready!
My dad bought me Galaxy a54 that i got for my birthday.. (White - 8/256) i've been using it for the past 24 days.
I give it 4/5 rating... everything's great with a little exception that the phone used exynoss..
there's some heat, but not so hot that u can make fried egg
The [Battery] is decent, with okay [Charging speed] (25w) not the fastest.. but im really fine with it
(i got cashback... buy charger, screen protector, and phone case.. so i dont complain xD) it has Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and the back, but for extra protection, why not?
Oh yeah, it has IP67! not that big of a deal for many people, but it's great to have
The [Performance] is Good - Great (I play KartRider Rush+, Ace Racer, NFS No Limits, and Call of Duty) i once play Asphalt 9, the performance is great too. I dont play Genshin, Star Rail, or Honkai.. so idk what the phone's performance for those game...
The [Camera] is great imo, i dont really have other phone to compare on my hand other than my parent's phone (Galaxy A32 & Oppo Reno 3) so it is a "big upgrade" for me. Cus, this is my actual first phone (not really the "first" because previously i use my dad's and my mom's old phone -> galaxy j2 prime & oppo a37f.. yeah it's an ancient phone xD)
many people complaining about the chin [Bezel] being not thin, and the other bezels not as thin as the previous model..
while i'm agree and concerned at first when seeing people reveiw it, after buying it.. honestly, it's not really distracting and i dont care about it... im looking at the beautiful screen anyway, speaking of the screen.. it's great, smooth 120hz amoled.. it's not so big and it's also not small, so it's perfect for me...
imagine samsung putting a better soc on this phone, the rating everyone give would be 10/10
but i just think, i know why samsung didn't do that.. it make less people buy the a34, or less interest on the flagship and focus on this phone... (not entirely of course)
maybe that's what u get when making so many phone model😅
sorry if some of my english is bad... and if you're reading this far, hope u have a wonderfull day/night!
I'm considering between a54 or pixel 7a I'm not a gaming person more on social media consumption but battery life is important to me and I hate not snappy performances I don't change my phone often every 4 years any suggestions thank you 😊😊
Battery life: Samsung A54 Endurance rating is 119h
Than Google Pixel 7a Endurance rating 76h
Surprised nobody talks about the looks of the pixel A phones. feel physically sick looking at the bezels on the 7a.
What phone did he think is the best here? Can someone tell me please
Off topic. What was the video of the animated kid jumping in the puddle?
I was just serching for good midrange phones today.
Didn't knew Zidane also started doing reviews of mobile phones
Regarding the audio jack versus USB-C debate, I picked up an adaptor last week from Home Bargains, price £1.99 - probably anathema to audiophiles 🤣
I ve been using one for my old car since... Well long time ago. It is not as inconvenient as some think
The problem is the DAC + Amp built into the phone's USB port is never, ever used so is often of very poor quality. If you're using a USB-C adapter in your pocket you'll wear out the USB-C port on your phone too, from it moving around in your pocket, and plugging in and out. The adapter is also awkward, in that it comes out of the middle of the device and has a little weight so it hangs on the cable on your ears. Plus it looks dumb.
I prefer to buy a phone with a dedicated headphone jack to avoid these problems.
I used it to play music in my car from the phone. So, no pocket argument counts. Although, if I used to to play music while I walk or exercise, I would most likely use earbuds which have tiny wires and small weight.@@nomiguda

drinking game: take a shot for every time a phone is powered by Snapdragon 695 or Snapdragon 778G😂😂😂😂
Seems like this list should have had the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, Redmi K60 Ultra, Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus, OnePlus Nord 3, Xiaomi Civi 3, and the upcoming Realme GT 5 to be legit. Those are the true best value phones currently for their price segment.
Most of those are China phones and miss some crucial European network bands like B20 and B32.
@@Psi-Storm same for me here in the U.S. it's a shame we can't get the good stuff here and have to sacrifice some bands to save some money.

How does the Oppo Reno 10 rate against these, I wonder?....
Yo guys should i get the pixel 6A?? I don't have the budget for 7A 😢
