If I can fill a filter easily with oil I do but for odd positions I don't believe it makes a huge difference, especially if you've run the engine up beforehand so it's got oil right round the system
I have a Volvo MD2020, 20 hp; but surprised how much the engines are the same. I use clothes-pegs to drain the extractor hose. It drips while I finish the oil change. I love that you have all that room to work. Well done!
Hello Heidi and Franny, it has been a pleasure watching your videos now you got your beautiful cat. thanks so much for sharing all this information. Cheers from Canary Islands 👍😘
I am happy you are using oil pads and you got the ones I like the most,,, the smooth cover type. I normally check the air intake for oil or crud and clean the screen, also I change the Raycor fuel filter at oil change time.... I noticed your coolant cap without a over flow tube ???
Thanks for the great video. Is there a recommended lifespan on these engines between rebuilds? I used to run a Malibu ski boat with a Chevy 454. It typically spun at 3-4000 rpm, with a pretty good load from the hull . More of the hull was designed to stay in the water for stability pulling a skier. 1000 or so hours was considered high hours.
Off subject but as I bought an i8 about the time you did, wondering if you have after 10 years, replaced the drive battery? Although I really liked the car I sold mine 4 years ago for another 911. At the time replacement , from what I could learn, was about 25K so elected to bail. Curious how you have dealt with it as I very much respect how you both deal with things. Smooth sailing!
It's been great! We replaced the small 12V battery but the main drive battery seems to be just fine. No noticable change in range. We did just replace the front left axle because of a bad CV bootie but that has been it besides oil changes and such. Still very quick and just a great all around car. So different than any other BMW. What 911 did you replace your with?
@@HeidiandFranny A turbo 996 cabriolet, traded for a 991.1 C2S coupe, recently traded for a C8 coupe. My 3rd Corvette and I like it but I change cars often. Glad to hear your i8 has been so trouble-free. I bought in '18 a '15 just off lease, Terra, Sophisto Gray. Half the new price, an excellent deal for cutting edge technology. No room to keep and wanted to move on. I also admire your life change. Bold! Boats and sailing-travel are very cool mostly and I wish you both, fair winds and following seas. Very nice talking with you!

Thanks so much!
Always excellent tips tricks and advice!!!! Love the pads recommendation, the bag trick, and the extractor. You guys are the best!!!! 🎉🎉
Thanks! 💕
Damn you are thorough, well done
Great video well done
I have exactly the same oil extractor, best things ever!
I extract a bit of degreaser through it after an oil change to clean the tubes too.
Great tip!
Wow! The bag trick is cool! I shall try it while I change the oil of my car and truck,Thanks!
Cool, that's great!
Great episode guys!
Awesome video Franny! Super helpful to prep for ours!
Thank you!
Love the 911 equivalent oil change 😂

It probably depends on the brand. Oil changes should happen regularly whether the boat sits or is used... similar to a car from that perspective.
Nice, but I'm sure the next time you will do the labeling on the oil filter before you put it on.
I think that you may have two engines in your sailing boat. Same treatment was done to another one?
Yes. Yeah. DIY we don't want someone to have to watch it twice!
I miss the pearls!
