I was kind of expecting a side by side comparison so we can see the differences in detail. Can you do a video with 5 games side by side that show the actual difference? Thanks!!
@@gazelle78 right now, most definitely not. This may change in the future. There are not enough gains in Saturn performance to justify upgrading. The Midway cores Pramod is working on, if he is able to get them working on MiSTer will more than likely require dual RAM. The choice is yours, ultimately.
Just ordered a MiSTer XS-DS v3.0 128MB SDRAM single from having a XS-D v2.5 stick. Any differences between the 2 ? I found that some games have been having audio issues
CD Romance and Vimm's lair have you covered if you can't find stuff. Are you able to do a comparison video between single and dual? It would be cool to see if there is actually any difference.
I may be able to, but it's tough, as I haven't noticed many differences. Also comparison vids take a long time, so it's when I get time in-between other stuff. It's on the maybe list though.
@@Jokerwolf666 me and him our good friends, we do chat a lot. We generally in most cases prefer capturing our own footage, but of course, the option for sharing is there. I'll have a look at the compatibility tracker, that may give me some solid ideas.
SEGA Rally 2 wasn't ported to the Saturn but there are SEGA Rally variants (I think there were 3 versions in Japan with minimal changes). Galaxy Fight 2 isn't really a thing but they could be talking about either Astra Superstars or Waku Waku 7 as they're all part of the same series.
It looks like (and I can't remember what my original Saturn looked like) Virtua Fighter might be in an interlaced mode. (why you see those alternating lines on fast movement) Since it's scanning every-other line per refresh, I'm not sure what impact we should expect from a scanline mode. Also, I think some capture devices can remove every-other frame (which is why when you see some flickering effects on older games like weapon fire that half-disappears on TH-cam). So between all of these variables, it may look completely different than it does onscreen when run locally. About Croc: I agree completely about choosing something like Mario over the unknown most of the time. There were a few good platformers though that were relatively unknown back then. I played Croc on the PC when it came out, and I believe at the time I was using a Sidewinder game pad. It didn't have tank controls on the PC. (or maybe it just allowed you to define them or something) It played more or less like Mario 64 give or take a bit. I refuse to play games with tank controls unless I'm driving a tank. :D Always have. Hated Resident Eveil, Alone in the Dark, etc. for this very reason. I loved the Twinsen games, but couldn't play them for the same reason, so I watched my brother play them instead. :) Also, if you like Liquid Kids and haven't played Parasol Stars (Bubble Bobble 3) you HAVE to play it preferably with two players. PC Engine is the best way to play it. It doesn't scroll like Liquid Kids, but it has the same water mechanic, and is a blast!
Good video. That PowerSlave / Exhumed game performed well. Although, it's got those horizontal screen glitches after 26:34, as you later pointed out. Poor you. You're colour blind (10:47, 15:45). Oh, I didn't realise. I just checked Wikipedia. 75% of the Saturn Catalog were Japanese only. That's 785 games! I thought it'd be a much lower percentage. BTW, the compatibility of the smaller number of tested games in the spreadsheet link in that vampier website link in description is still not very high. Seems like the N64 core will beat this core soon - it's likely ahead as of a few weeks ago (eg. Sept 2023).
Title of the game in the intro please? I heard “time ball cannon”. I googled it but nothing came up. Also, title of that car platformer/sonic like game? Thanks!
Its sadly ironic. The day PCN does the dual RAM test, is the same day I should have been building my Mister... instead I have a seller on Amazon who sent me a hub saying its a case, and an ebay seller, selling items they don't actually have, so I have no de10 nano board... >.
Sorry if I missed it, but is this all with the public core (which I think only uses the single ram regardless) or is it with the unstable nightly dual ram core?
@@PixelCherryNinja This is a problem that I also struggle with, trying to understand a FAST speaker that also has an accent (to me). I would love it if PCN could put the actual game name he’s showing say in those black bars on the side of the video. Also, consider using chapters as well, the names of the games could also live there.
I know, it's such a bad habit, it comes out with me even thinking. I do actually try 🤦 I think it stems from early games magazines I used to read, where fighters and beat em ups, were called beat em ups.
Is it necessary when using Dual Ram for them to both be 128 MB ? Has anyone tried using say 128 + a 32 MB dual RAM setup? Would love to save a couple of bucks if 128 MB isn’t required for a 2nd stick.
Dude. Don’t be cheap. Just get the 128 because you might need it in the future when other cores come out. But like he said, for now you don’t need that second one anyway. So just save your money for that 128. But yes. Any combination of ram as sizes will work.
Nah, I didn't notice much difference. The biggest thing for me was that the sound was okay in Golden Axe the duel. Whereas on Single it would always go a bit funny.
still waiting for a duel ram io that offers rgb and duel ram. I think there is one. A big board with better sound capacitors. Why i care idk. DOn't have a crt. Sure why not. I am in the savings to get more stuff. Not at the moment.s
Thanks for the feedback. I'll likely keep my style the way it is. TH-cam has an option that lets you stop a channel from showing up in your feed. It's worth using to avoid watching channels you dislike. Have a good day 🙂
Thank you for this content! I've been looking forward to the Saturn core since I've never played the OG console and am super curious about it ❤

What happens if you run dual sdram core, without the second sdram installed. Have you tried?
