- Seven minute Arlecchino animated short?! We are eating SO GOOD tonight. Gosh, this was beautiful and sad. Absolutely incredible animation. Wow! I hope we’ll learn even more about her backstory in the Arlecchino story quest!

So Arlecchino chose the "tough love, but true love" path.
Instead of her mother's "gentle love, yet fake love" path.

I think that the kick was basically a representation what Arle felt at that very moment, and the rejection
The more I think about it, the more I feel like Clervie (the pink haired girl) probably just intentionally impaled herself on Arlecchino's sword because Arlecchino looks really shocked in that scene, and Clervie is smiling like she's at peace with the situation, so yeah. I was wondering what happened there, but thinking on it more, I think this is probably what happened. Oof.
To me it felt like either Clervie sacrificed herself, or it was somehow tied to the curse. They already hinted that the curse is tied to death with both the the spider and the dying flower.
In the original Chinese, Clervie is said to be the previous knave’s biological daughter! This fact didn't translate in the English version for some reason
Arlecchino's rule for the house of the hearth is that betrayal is not allowed (it's even immediately repeated after mentioned by Lynney). Combined with Arlecchino presenting herself as a distanced father and not a loving mother like her predecessor, makes me think Clervie actually attacked Arle and she had to defend herself and kill her. She had been totally indoctrinated by that point. That's why she apologizes, she choose her beliefs over her love for her friend.
In the beginning, you already see all the kids totally hanging on "Mothers" lips, being excited about the gruesome story she tells, and only Arlecchino is outside, mourning death instead of celebrating it (the spider is also a Symbol for Mothers, so she put the thought of the old Knave as her Mother to the grave at a young age). The other orphans might've not withstood "Mothers" manipulation and lies (didn't even question when Mother harmed them and they had to be stitched up again) and turned into the operatives she wanted them to become.
You can also see Arle's aversion to manipulation in how Lynney turned out, who declares he talked to us as plain old Lynney and was true to himself and his Morals during the Fontaine Archon quest.

I guess the Fatui has double standards as well. Sure they pardoned Arlecchino but the fact it's okay to kill your subordinates or let them offed each other but not their superiors doesn't sit well with me
3:02 she's still holding on to her own sword in the reflection. So Clervie probably stabbed herself knowing that Arlecchino/Peruere wouldn't be able to kill the only real friend she ever had
yeah we see the sword run through Clervie is covered in blood and it seems to sill be in her as she falls, but in the wide shot we still see Arle's sword in her hand at her side completely clean. "A bird tied down will ever leave the nest. That includes you." seems to indicate that Mother told Clervie to throw her fight so Arle could be free to become "King", too.

I especially love how the music changes from one voice to a symphony of children when ‘Father’ catches the sword.

15:28 I think the reason why Arlecchino made Lyney and friends fight her (from the trailer) is because she wants to teach them that in important moments, you have to make the decision and fight for your believes and not just follow orders until you regret it like Arlecchino and the orphans did (in participating in the battle royale) even when someone much more powerful (4th Harbinger) tells you so.
Orphan hunger games, such cruelty. I'm thinking Clervie killed herself or let her guard down hence the sorry and left Arle in shocked because she can't do it.
Also 3:14 the sword probably belonged to the blonde girl because of the orange 🍊 in her hair now in the sword just flavoring what happened on the battle royale.

This is amazing! Did you notice that the friends necklace was the same flower that needed to be "pruned". I love how seeing the flower at the end led to her sudden beast mode that led to her killing the Harbinger. Also i am curious if the kid at the end is supposed to be Freminet? I cant wait for her to come out so i can see the rest of her story.
At that point Peruer lost the Curse Suppression Groves and the Curse made her progressively stronger, it seems.
The Curse and the Reincarnation is linked and sooner or later will be even more explored in the game directly tieing into Peruer true origin lore, i assume based on game lore hints so far.
Wrong eye color (should be blue), wrong hair color (not light enough blond), no freckles. So yeah no it's not freminet 😂 it's just some new kid of the orphanage

That scene where she promotes to be harbingers shows alot of revelations.
1. She rose to the ranks and got her current position as the 4th Rank. Because Scaramouche, Capitano and Signora are there which also indicates that the Doctor is on the ranks.
2. She is still Young and showed a lot of Potential to rise. Also she might be the hardest Harbinger the traveler will have to face yet.
The music during the fight scene though, how the lyrics kick in after seeing the flower, and the chorus of children singing along as "Mother" is being put on the backfoot. Simply beautiful.

Man, that kick Arlecchino delivers at the end is BRUTAL. I hope hoyo gives more genshin characters this kind of treatment, we've been eating good on the star rail side, genshin needs a little love now

It's incredibly disrespectful to the people who actually worked on these things cause you're quite LITERALLY discrediting them in order to praise some mid ass hack who assassinated Kevin's character motivations, wrote the most divisive arc in hi3 (Elysian Realm), and force feeds you waifu bait female characters cause he can't make them likeable without also making sure YOU REALLY KNOW You're meant to like them (Elysia and Firefly)

Shaoji this Shaoji that. You people don't seem to realize how fucking disrespectful it is to the rest of the writers that work at Hoyo when you discredit their work to try and play it up as though this mediocre hack is the only one who can write well.
For the sake of everyone else, please don't ever become a creative arts person. And if you do, I genuinely hope whatever YOU end up creating, gets praised as someone else's doing rather than your own. Maybe then you'll understand how fucking rude it is to say shit like this.
Anyway, Shaoji is a bum of a writer. Can't write female leads that are compelling without also force feeding them to you as waifu pandering (elysia and firefly lmao), completely butchered the moon arc finale in hi3 and assassinated Kevin's motivations as a character, and created the god forsaken Elysian Realm arc, which was the fastest NOTHINGBURGER arc until the last two chapters that involved it.
The way he wrote himeko dying in hi3 is also incredibly overrated. It's the standard teacher dies for their student shonen anime trope yet it gets hailed as peak fiction that nobody else could ever possibly produce. I'm so tired of this guy being touted as some writing savant when dude literally just took a basic trope, did nothing unique with it, shipped it out, and fans went crazy for it just cause a character THEY BARELY KNEW died (gee where have I seen that before ? Certainly didn't do the same thing with firefly during 2.0 only to then turn around and act pretentious and smart like "teehee just kidding she didn't actually die.")
@@justsomeguy727 I completely agree with the weird cult worship of shaoji is disrespectful to all the other writers they have (even though it's a meme and not serious in a lot of cases), but idk about discrediting his work. Fact is there's still a lot we don't know about Firefly so ruling her out as nothing more than waifu bait is hardly fair, and personally Elysia is one of my favourite characters from honkai. Just cause she's wholesome and friendly doesn't mean she's poorly written, and her being flirty/lovey is the point she's loves humans as the hersherr of humanity
I still dont know how I feel about the elysian realm arc so divisive is certainly a good way to describe it lol. I can't decide if I loved it or if I was just super happy it was finally over
About the stabbing her friend bit.
As the story said: In order to become the next "Mother" of the orphanage the children had to participate in a Battle royale and murder each other and only the one remaining could challenge the current "Mother" (the Knave from back then) in order to become the new Mother of the orphanage. So Arlecchino had to kill her best friend sadly. Not only that, they all had to murder each other for a chance to survive. Kill or be killed...
So as you said, I believe that is why she goes by Father instead of Mother. To not be associated with the previous Knave.

I absolutely LOVE everything about this, I ALWAYS believed that people were really Mischaracterizing Arlecchino and this proves it, I hope everyone has good luck pulling for her in a few days and I absolutely love seeing Scaramouche in his white harbinger cloak, instead of wearing his big hat he has on the big harbinger hood which i think is a really cool detail

i stumbled upon this reaction video by chance, i've looked at your comments i wonder if you've got the answer you need about 'mother's connection to clervie.
if not; not so fun fact in other language (JP/CN/KR) when arlecchio asked clervie "do mothers usually argue with their daughters" the language specifically choose a word that indicate blood-related "parent-child" meaning. in japanese it was "oyako". this question might also imply that the wounds clervie got was from 'mother'. clervie probably never talked about the training or abuse she received and chalked it up as "argument" when arlecchino asked.
as another commenter noted about clervie wearing lumidouce bell flower pendant, 'mother' specifically talk about pruning lumidouce bell flower she held in relation to her own daughter. i agree in your assessment that clervie could have been 'sacrificed' herself to arlecchino's sword bcs this tracks with mother's conversation about "innocence and kindness" being useless. clervie probably hated that she had to be 'king' and fight arlecchino so instead she believed in arlecchino being a 'great king', surrendered and let arlecchino win.

I love how early you spotted the death flags. lol. The curse... There was a world quest where one character showcased similar effects to what Arlecchino is facing. I don't know if you want me to say what it is, so I'll not spoil it. I'm sure they'll tell us in the story quest and explain it.
This was the kind of quality I was hoping when they announced Genshin Anime years ago. Not a peep out of them after that. This felt like a proper high budget anime that I'd be thrilled to watch!
The trailer for 4.6 showed Lynney, Lynnette and Freminet fighting Arlecchino while she was guiding them. Has history repeated itself? Despite what it looked like, looks like Father is making the same mistakes that Mother has made. Question is, will it end the same way? This looks like how atleast one Harbinger is chosen. A rite of succession. Imagine if one of the three siblings become the new Harbinger in the story? My mind would explode :D
I stopped playing Genshin at one point. Then the Winter Night's Lazzo came in and I was captivated by The Knave. And now, when my waning attention is brought right back into the fold. The Knave will be mine.
