@Kamran Bashir The plane wasn't going down the runway, it was just wheeling itself towards the runway and when the Captain said "ready for takeoff", that meant coming close to the runway for takeoff. Especially if you quickly see at 2:57 that the plane was moving very slowly which showed that it wasn't on the runway for takeoff. If it was on the runway, the plane would have taken off before he even saw Max.
@afriendofbean That's right, an aircraft moves at 180 - 200 mph on the runway before liftoff, no mobile staircase can move anywhere near that fast. Aircrafts usually move around 30 - 40 mph while taxiing (slower than that if they're in a line behind other planes before the runway)

Instead of laughing at this scene it always hits me when Jim Carrey says "I'm late but I made it" he finally understood that his kid was more important to him and that his career as one of the best defense lawyers was worthless without his son in it also end up getting a little emotional when his son innocently waives goodbye to him without realizing his dad is making the ultimate sacrifice in the world in proving that no more broken promises nor anything, he's number 1 in his father's heart forever no matter what.

mngentry I know it's a ridiculous scene that should make you laugh but when you look at it with a deeper look after seeing the movie in it's entirety that's when it hits you not only the line I mentioned earlier but also when he says " I won't let you go" the emotional part is him realizing that his kid is what gives his life the light in the middle of darkness him understanding almost too late cause he did the stupidest thing ever by illegally entering the airport and hijacking some stairs but at that moment all he could think of was stopping his own flesh and blood from leaving him forever.

The irony of this film is if fletcher was such a good lawyer he would have realized that his kid could not have been moved out of state without a court hearing and new custody plan. Both parties have to agree for the move or a court has to approve it. She was essentially kidnapping the kid and jerry realized that she was crazy in the end.

Fletcher was lucky that his secretary Greta who quit bailed him out of jail because if she didn't, he never would have caught up with them at the airplane especially since Fletcher tried calling Audrey to bail him out but she refused. However, it seems like after this scene Jerry and Audrey broke up because when Max asked if they really have to move to Boston Jerry said "no" but, Jerry himself said that he has too since he has his job offer.
When I was quite young I always felt so bad for always laughing at the scene where his tangled up in the bag because he acually got hurt xD .. My sister would always look at me and be like "Kate, its not funny xD...."
