Aaay, you got your big video out! Nicely done. Though as you know I’m not really a connoisseur of the Sonic series. I get what you mean that everyone has their own opinion but shouldn’t bash something if you haven’t tried it just because it’s popular. On a completely different note, the prevalence of furry Pokémon gets more and more each game, just accept it at this point 😂

@@NokaiGaming The problem with Modern Sonic is that his creator Yuki Naka left Sega during the making of Sonic 06. To make matters worse Sega also lost the people who made Sonic Unleashed. So without Sonic founding fathers, Sonic Team has hard time maintaining consistency. That the inconsistency has caused Sonic haters to just say that Sonic is never good, because it's the easy answer. Sadly the answer to Sonic's decline is not easy to solve.

They really have no right to say that Sonic is a "joke" or a punching bag when the gaming community itself is a clown show.
Sonic is severely underrated. Like it’s not even funny. People put heart and love into this franchise, and it’s brushed aside like people use sonic as a example of a bad series. Which is untrue. Sonic needs more appreciation.
I mean, they're not entirely wrong; Sonic as a series STRUGGLES to keep a consistant and good game line up since as early as the mid 90s with games like labyrinth or 3d blast. Even nowdays games like SCU, Origins and arguably Frontiers are below average games or in case of SCU downright terrible. If you look at other series like Mario, they don't have a game like 06 or Sonic Boom (not counting those obscure educational or CDI games) and aside from a couple of mediocre spin offs like the new paper mario games Mario just remains pretty consistant to this very day. Now if you compare that to Sonic we had the Classic era where most of the mainline games were solid, but the majority of spin offs were ok at best, the Adventure era which was half great half bad and the Meta era, which was even worse then the adventure era consistency and content wise. Sonic's just a franchise that has broken the good will of the public so many times that some way you can't really blame people for thinking Sonic is a bad franchise, even tho there are some genuinely great games it has to offer.

I think "underappreciated" is a better term, but I agree. I'm just glad the series and community are finally making a serious comeback.
Fun facts: Shadow is written the way he is because of SEGA’s characters mandates, not because of Ian Flynn. Hopefully with this new upcoming game, maybe SEGA could have a change of heart and let Ian Flynn write properly.
And SammyClassicSonicFan was apparently a troll from the start, and was making fun of fanboys. Not to say he wasn’t a Sonic fan, but rather just poking fun at insane commenters.
Yall keep throwing that word around yet dont even know what ian meant by mandates. Its more of guidelines; Sega of japan and America have NO mandate set in stone for sonic and the other characters, just basic guidelines. The way Ian writes Shadow now is how he wants to write Shadow, how he sees shadow as a character, and we just have to accept that Shadow is a malleable character given his circumstance
@@CrustiiDustii alright, then… I guess we just change the words to guidelines. Though, to be fair, there have been complaints before about characters and their writing (all the way back in the day too), so if the mandates/guidelines weren’t strict it’d surprise me. I thought there was a mandate in regards to Shadow being never able to tell jokes. Regardless, Ian Flynn still does have a part in writing Shadow the way he is (with Shadow not being able to tell jokes, the joke became that Shadow is always an edgy douchebag). It is hard to streamline such a huge franchise but if Sonic 3 (the movie) writes Shadow incredibly right, then they might bring his personality from the movies into the games. We’ll see, though.

@@NokaiGaming As a Sonic fan myself, it's very hard to find a "Sonic" game that has the right balance, in terms of character, gameplay, and storytelling. Loved the Classic Games, Rise of Lyric, Fire & Ice, Adventure 1 & 2, Lost World, Mania and Generations, because Sonic is invested in his own story, and his friends sometimes help. I hate the rest of the games, mostly because Sonic's friends don't play a major role, or that Sonic doesn't care about the situation he's in. I feel the people who are being meanspirited to Sonic were doing this, because SEGA is being meanspirited on their writing. Apathy is a toxic thing to use on a good story. I don't hate Sonic games, because he exists (like Arin Henson does, for claiming Sonic is bad from the start, and no "good" Sonic game exists); I turn against bad Sonic games (and to a lesser extent, Show or Movie), because there's no heart.
And BTW, about the "Treasure Hunting" Stages from Adventure 2, I think they were complaining about it, because of how the Radar was nerfed; which can also be a big issue when playing the "Security Hall" Stage, if you have very limited lives, and you want to be more accustomed to the stage's hiding spots, but can't, because you have a limited time limit, caused by Rouge herself, BTW, because she went with 5 minutes instead of 10 that Eggman mentioned (10 minutes can work, because it's the same time limit for a normal 2D Sonic stage; 5 minutes doesn't, because SEGA expects you to be a Speedrunning God, which, unfortunately, not everyone can pull that off). Now, that's not to say I HATE Sonic Adventure 2 because of it; far from it; I just think it felt backwards to have a nerfed radar, when Adventure 1 gave you three possible routes all at once to help speed things up; and if they want to have 5 minutes on Security Hall, a Nerfed Radar would not help for beginners, and not everyone will succeed on the first deathless attempt.
And BTW, I hope you can respect my decision on hating on people who give false witness, because that is a commandment that shouldn't be broken; heck I hate MatPat for that same reason. I didn't think MatPat is a good guy, because he was earning his revenue through lying.

The idea of Sonic controlling bad has always been stupid, just because it's unique doesn't mean it's bad. People say Sonic controls great in Frontiers simply because he can do a 360 spin quickly yet he controlled great in the boost games, just because it's not the typical platformer controls doesn't mean it's bad.

I remember in middle school I was playing Sonic 2 on mobile and my friend was like “ewww you’re playing Sonic? Those games suck, just look at those graphics!” I said “bruh have you even played a Sonic game before…?” “No.”
Idk if this is so much the case nowadays but back then, there were so many people just going off the opinions of TH-camrs claiming “Sonic is bad!” When they’ve never even touched a Sonic game in their lives…

Just found this in my recommended about 40 minutes ago and this was a very well constructed video. In the time you gave yourself, you covered quite a lot, and quite well at that. The editing was definitely a highlight as well, though you could maybe cut down on the pauses taken when a new music track starts. If a few more videos in a similar style can be expected down the pipeline, I'd be happy to check them out.

I've recently started reading the Archie comics, and the early Sonic Universe releases depict Shadow incredibly well. There's a lot more allowed for him beyond brooding edgelord in these - he has this tentative friendly side to him as well, which was refreshing. Some small moments of sensitivity while still trying to be stoic. Honestly, it's better than any version of post-SA2 Shadow seen anywhere else. Checked who penned these and it was Ian Flynn.
Idk what happened that saw his Shadow in IDW turn out more one dimensional, but I've at least seen proof that Ian is capable of writing an excellent take on Shadow.
Yeah. Sega gave mandates on how characters are written nowadays, so they basically want Shadow to be an edgelord. It's pretty sad

This video is freaking awesome and I'm glad it got recommended to me. I personally got into Sonic in 2017, right after Mania came out. I wasn't into the series purely due to lack of interest (my only interests were... very mainstream) but Sonic is what sparked the era of me broadening my horizons and led to me getting into a bunch of stuff like Mario and a lot of the indie stuff coming out at the time. Sonic is kind of a representative of keeping an open mind in my eyes--it's not always gonna be the same. One bad game doesn't make all of them bad after all.
I've experienced fandom toxicity first hand, but it never muddied my perception of what they're fans of. I honestly just wish people could develop their own opinions for these sorts of things instead of making their judgements based on like... children screaming about something they enjoy. You can be passionate about something even if there's a loud minority screwing things up for other people.

More and more sonic fans are getting into the series heck some Mario fans are getting tired of Nintendo and half of them are getting into sonic. It’s like sonic is a cool dude with a rad personality and I think that’s what is good with this franchise.

Everyone fandom aside from sonic has to nick-pick on videos that came in years ago and try to bring them up to present day and that’s the annoying part.
I think this video helps me a lot, because before I was a Sonic fan for 2 years, I was an Thomas and friends Fan for 15 years at the age of 4, and besides now this fandom of ttte Was Toxic and having Slanders from tv shows, and the company who owns the brand, and yes I get the feeling why Sonic has been through a lot from a lot of drama from manchilds, and I want to avoid anything from it.

@@NokaiGaming I think it already is healing! Sega's output with Sonic media has been pretty good these last few years and people have been more positive in general about Sonic, so that's something!
The funniest thing is that since Frontiers is getting a ton of positive press, there are creators actively scrambling to try and bash on the game in a reasonable manner. It's funny seeing how desperate they can be.
Also, on the ProJared thing you mentioned, it's more or less his business at this point, since he had the receipts for the more major things people tried to cancel him for. Everything else is more his private life.

HOLY SHIT! I KNOW THAT GUY AT 11:02!!! That Dark Sonic guy was an absolute ass during the days of the Forces hype cycle, even when nobody was attacking him and merely said some mild criticism.
There's also this Monkey D. Luffy guy who was also always causing problems, but he's harder to track down for obvious reasons.
My favorite thing about Sonic is how the franchise is quite literally a lolcow factory. So many wonderful sickos have spawned from this franchise. You have Chris Chan (and we all know what he did), Richard Kita (the diaper man), Dillin Thomas (I used to binge watch his videos talking about Chris Chan and different lolcows before he became one himself😂), Ken Penders (even the people who officially worked on Sonic are weirdos. I LOVE how the only reason he won his baseless court case was because Sega were somehow even more incompetent than he was), and so many more. It’s so weird how other than people like Movie Bob you basically never see this from Mario despite the fact their demographic appeal overlaps a lot. Let’s just say regardless of the quality of the games there’s a reason Sonic has the reputation it does.

@Can't Read As someone who really likes Halo I can confirm that the Halo community is unfortunately the Sonic fandom of fps games. They just don’t appear nearly as cancerous since they’re not obsessing over a cartoon blue hedgehog. There are so many parallels between the two fanbases. Thankfully I don’t engage in the autism. I just like to watch it from a distance.

One of em loves pikmin, but I've never played it so I can't say I like it. For him, it's the same way with Sonic. The reason I rag on sonic so much is because I know he has the potential to be something truly great. We see this potential fan games such as sonic utopia and robo blast. It's like the smart kid in school that just slacks off, like you could be so much better but you choose to slack off. That being said I am actually excited for the future of sonic, sonic frontiers laid out a great blue print for sonic team to improve on.

Just played Sonic Adventure for the first time 2 days ago. It is a dang gem.
Sonic is making a big comeback in 2022 like the comics got a good rep so does the two movies, and he’s getting a show and another sequel plus frontiers looks very promising from footage seems like sonic team/SEGA are trying again which I’m glad hopefully it stays this way for our favorite blue blur

Sonic is a series that many times over the years has been the subject of much scrutiny from people, and for a variety of different reasons. And in many cases, it’s because of how commonly misunderstood we are. often times, when people see a few bad apples, they judge the entire bunch just off of the few that they’ve seen without giving them a chance.
And it makes me glad to see that I’m not the only one who saw how much this was happening over time and that more people are now speaking up about it.
And hey, no need to feel bad about how much time the video took to get out, life happens, you really get busy sometimes, and sometimes you don’t have all the time you want to get what you want to done, I think what’s even better is that you were able to upload it to begin with.
Overall, really good job on the video, I’m interested in seeing what you decide to upload and do in the future!

That's the best way for a real Sonic fan to be, after my days in the Sonic forums I learned to just enjoy Sonic by myself maybe the last time I reached out to Sonic fans the first thing the asked me after checking to see if I was a fan is if I like the Sonic series "sexually" needless to say I bailed out faster than Super Sonic could move.
To be honest I believe the Sonic community should be more healthier and more civilized and be less judgmental A more accepting instead of act like a 12 year old children who cry all the time

I'm someone who's willing to enjoy the Sonic games that I enjoy. I know that there will be people who dislike both episodes of Sonic 4, and that's fine. But I'll always still enjoy those games myself. Sonic has stuck with me for my entire life and I genuinely want the series to do really well. While I haven't seen the Sonic movies, I'm happy that they're doing well regardless and I'm hoping Frontiers turns out great too.

As a sonic fan I always get bullied in school but it doesn't stop me because I have a small group of friends to keep me company and happy who also really enjoy sonic and get bullied... that last one there isn't that great but when we get home we hop on a discord call together and play sonic with each other even without online play except for sonic robo blast 2 we hop on and we have so much frickin fun.

Great video, the rep that sonic had once led to me being somebody who took a long time to actually appreciate the good that has come out of the series, and enjoy many of the games. One criticism I have of the video is the bass boosted parts are a little loud, my ears didn't enjoy those

Found this video in my recommended, as someone who’s been in and outta the fanbase since about Unleashed (I think that’s roughly the time I got into sonic) I always found people pokin’ fun at sonic and kinda treating the franchise like a punching bag. Which- yes, sonic has a few bad games but it’s kind of become the Internet’s dead horse.
I think this is the first video I saw from you and I found it really enjoyable! I like how ya went over the different parts of the fanbase and specified how ya don’t hate any of the creators from the clips shown for the fact they’re not very keen on Sonic.
Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Frontiers, it looks super promising and Vandalize is probably one of my favorite songs from the franchise.

Sorry for not commenting on the subject of the video directly, but I just wanted to pop in and say that the sheer volume of the few moments that used loud sounds to accentuate a joke is a bit too much. I think my biggest gripe with when the game grumps playing sonic is that they’ll just make fun of the game relentlessly, so much that they don’t even pay attention to the good parts of the gameplay or story, I get that they’re not playing it for any of those reasons but they really act like it’s the games fault they don’t know what’s going on

Wait, a video talking about fan projects and it does not talk about Sonic and Tails R!? A show that, unlike Ian Flynn, actually writes Shadow correctly, and gives him his best vocal performance in English - Kōji Yusa is the GOAT for Shadow voices - in well over a decade? Not to mention gives Tails back a lot of credibility and self respect after Forces. Hell, he even does more in the first 30 seconds of the first episode than he does in the entirety of Forces.
I just hope that Flynn can save Tails because he's already wrote Sonic well so far.

Tails sat on the bench - along with Amy and Knuckles - unable to do anything, besides play cheerleader to Sonic, given that I hear the only playable character in it is Sonic. Therefore Sonic will be the only person who can actually do anything, as it has been since the Meta Era to which I ask: why? Its been sixteen years since the last time we got to play as Sonic's friends and I really do what's the point of having them around in the games if they don't do anything!? But of course some would say...
Something something they don't fit the narrative.

Something something they need to get Sonic right first.
Also I'm more interested in the Japanese script, given that I play with the Japanese dub, and I do hope that we get accurate subtitles for it. Because if I wanted to read the English script then I would play with the English dub. And I don't want to read "big oof!" When Jun'ichi clearly never said such a thing, due to him not being shy in throwing out random Engrish lines mixed with his native Japanese.

Nice video dude! I'm subbing for more videos like this. However there was abit too much earape and the last 10 minutes of the video was too much ranting. It was almost long enough to be it's own video. Overall I think you had some good points and I'm glad your having fun making videos.

Haven't seen your other videos so I don't know if all your vids are like this, but the padding on this is quite insane. Some of the points could have been explained a bit faster. Otherwise, this is an amazing video, if it werent for the length, I would definently send this to people who make fun of sonic too much

Cut down on the earrape. It’s painful to try to listen carefully and then have my ears blasted by loud sounds. Try more subtle comedic moments and not just “loud = funny”

I personally disagree with the idea of it being stupid to not like minor design choices, I like hearing what people's preferences are! But when people are saying "Oh you're just complaining for the sake of complaining" like that just sucks. So do people who are super hostile of their ideal Sonics of course. I just wish people could discuss their Sonic design preferences without getting bullied for being a "nitpicker" or "just looking for things to complain about" it's just super toxic to me.
Obviously no hate to you or anything but you saying people discussing Sonic's design is just garbage just kinda shuts down such an interesting topic for discussion in such a lame way to me. There's bad people who will force their ideal Sonic on you but some people just wanna say "Yeah I prefer Sonic's darker color fur" I think that's more than fine! Atleast I like talking about it and hearing people talk about it :'33. So sorry this comment is so long, I tend to get rambly on topics I'm passionate about.

great video!! i had done a very similar video topic recently myself
as someone who's very passionate about sonic and feels like i have a bit of a more positive outlook on some aspects, i do not think the fanbase is that bad all things considered
the only main issue ive ever had with the fanbase was the positive people getting attacked for liking something from the franchise, and the people who arent looking forward to a sonic thing are also getting attacked and i want the fanbase to finally understand that its not just the defenders who attack, there are negative people that do just as much LOL and it's because of that that i sometimes hide how excited i am for a mostly negatively looked at aspect, like frontiers' cyberspace
i love sonic and i always will, no other franchise has appealed to me quite as much as sonic has and no matter the bad moments, i still manage to find fun in a game

I agree with this video, people give the franchise way too much hate for producing a minority of games that aren't even really that bad. Although I will admit I still hate the fanbase, but for totally different reasons
I’ll be honest, the main reason I love Sonic is because of Sonic 3 and the Archie Comic series. In fact the reason I’m pumped for frontiers is because I’m hoping there is some tie-in to the IDW comic series. Through all that, I still hate when people hate on Sonic lol

This is probably going to be a hot take, but honestly I don't get the overreaction to people sharing their opinions on the minor things about Sonic. Like people piled on Chaomix for simply stating his PREFERENCE towards how Sonic's shoes were designed. Like it wasn't him treating it like the series was going to die if Sonic shoes weren't designed a certain way. And if you're mad at him for not talking about the important things? Well that's now how humans work, we don't talk always about the most important things, we talk about the things that we're the most passionate things to us. If we weren't allowed to, we'd all be not allowed to talk about our game preferences and always be talking about how to stop climate change and achieve world peace.
Also, I think SammyClassicSonicFan admitted that he was playing his anger up for entertainment, so people using him as a real example of Sonic fans is funny to me(The guy who also complained about Green Eyes also revealed himself to be a troll).
The conclusion is, let anyone talk or criticize anything they want to criticize even if it's as minor as can be; you can criticize them if they are playing it as a bigger problem than it really is, but don't just criticize them for expressing a preference towards something that wasn't "important" enough. I'm gonna express my opinion that Super Sonic's spines in SA1/SA2 are the best because they give a reason to why people could misidentify Shadow as Sonic since they have the same quill shape.
