Funny thing is, the idea of a god like being taking the form of nostalgic video games and effectively messing with people for the lulz is a scary concept. As an example, the King in Yellow explores a similar concept in the form of a forbidden play, but it leaves enough unsaid that the little we know unnerves us.

Imo biggest problem of .exe games is that they usually completely lack several things essential for horror: tension, atmosphere, element of surprise. Like, when you launch another "fan remake" of sonic.exe, you already know exactly what will happen to those characters (after you do nothing but hold right and occasionally jump for like 2 minutes) cuz it's the same exact freakin thing with nothing changed at all, only thing that changes are the decorations and their quality (which is often garbage) as far as I can tell the only truly noteworthy "classic formula" sonic.exe game is the recently released "One More Time Repixeled" demo because the creator, Mr. Pixel, not only understands the concept of .exe on fundamental level (Sonic being a sadistic entity in full control of his world who's toying with and tormenting the souls of his victims for his own amusement and for you to witness), but also doesn't hesitate to expand upon it in actually creative ways, betting everything on making you as unsettled and creeped out as he can through his game's visuals and sound design And yeah JC has absolutely zero fucking writing talent, even I can write something better, maybe :v

When i was young i loved the orignal game becuase i didint know of the drama but now that ik the drama. I dont really like the orignal anymore but i do like the remakes and the fan games.
