Watch Wolf Alice cover Katy Perry's hit single 'Roar' at the legendary Dean St Studios and look out for the rest of their NME session coming soon to NME.com.
Wolf Alice never disappoints. They just keep getting better and better. Vocals, arraignments, musicianship. Thats what great band do. They just keep getting better
+StaypuftMarshmallowMan Exactly. I hope they cover that other song that sounds like Roar, Brave I think it's called? They would rock the shit out of it.
The heavy drums make it more punk. You feel like you're right there with them at a house party, with Wolf Alice playing in a crowded livingroom. I love the contrast between her sotto voce, followed by the violent cymbals. This band knows what the fuck they're doing, and I hope to see them go a long way.
They're the most original song composers in decades and they do this, slam all that Max Martin stuff back at them. They're upsetting the applecart of the music industry and oh do people love it, been thirsting for this for a long long time.
Stone roses at the beginning excellent band, my favourite I play them very often, its only took a band 25 years that I can listen to over and over again...go for it Wolf Alice
Everyone is complaining about the balance, but lets take into consideration the sound they are approaching. The heavy kind of punk pop indie sound in my opinion. Also their name is WOLF ALICE what do you expect? Lol
People complaining about the drums and calling it a mess annoy the hell out of me. Like Nirvana were loud, a lot of the songs I've heard require thrashing guitars and generally a mess at the chorus, they're idolised. This isn't a rant at Nirvana as I do like them, just thought id share my view.
James Green shit i agree man......getting microscoped to death..... i wonder what ppl would have to say bout nirvana if they came out today on youtube...prolly he cant sing, simple guitarist, bassist is too tall, drummer hits too hard, wannabe sex pistols...........ugh fuck im just glad to hear a good rock band these days and their a good rock band!
I loved the fragility and softness of the first half, the drum kinda ruined it for me but I still love it better than the original. The two are uncompareable, different in every way!
Wow. You guys to a pop song... grunged it up... with a 90's type flair and improved the song 1000 fold. It sounds a lot like Sonic Youth and Belly... A lot like Belly. Amazing work!
I don't see why people are labeling this version of the song as "grunge". There's nothing "grungy" about it. It sounds like indie pop/rock to me. And that's okay, but whatever. At least it's better than the original.
qwer8907 Maybe. I listen to "grunge" music, but I kind of thought that for it to be labeled that, there would have to be some rougher vocals, a heavier sound... I guess I know nothing though.
This band can cover a pop song like roar and make it sound edgy. That’s a testament to how cool they are.
watch your back Perry you just got Aliced...loved this
change of perspective and a better vocal speaks for itself
John Blundell Yup better vocal
John Blundell good version no doubt but better vocals? come on
+The name is Big Daddy, as in your father oh. yes. and i mean, YEAH.
looks can be changed but your dour personality is for life I pity you
still replaying this in 2022 and wishing this could be purchased.
Wolf Alice never disappoints. They just keep getting better and better. Vocals, arraignments, musicianship. Thats what great band do. They just keep getting better
Those rare moments when the cover is way better than the original
+StaypuftMarshmallowMan LOL UR RIGHT
+StaypuftMarshmallowMan Exactly. I hope they cover that other song that sounds like Roar, Brave I think it's called? They would rock the shit out of it.
+StaypuftMarshmallowMan Still not a huge fan though...
if you like indie rock you can cover any pop song and it will sound better to you. but I agree that Wolf Alice has done super nice work here.
Wow nice ear candy

They're the most original song composers in decades and they do this, slam all that Max Martin stuff back at them. They're upsetting the applecart of the music industry and oh do people love it, been thirsting for this for a long long time.

For such a "renowned" studio they don't know how to mix a track very well
Drums drowning the voice
Luke Sandifer Good one mate! Now look up the definition of pretentious and look in the mirror.
the way she says dust tho... "deuxst"

Dangerously delicate & elegant
Beautiful interpretation.

Little big jewels you find when letting youtube going in autoplay. I love it.
this is fantastic
convinced there is absolutely no sound that they can't perfectly mimic & make their own
That was quite great😍😍😍😍😍
I loved the fragility and softness of the first half, the drum kinda ruined it for me but I still love it better than the original. The two are uncompareable, different in every way!

Saw you guys with Swim deep, now I'm addicted...
I'd love to hear this without that bloody ride symbol over powering everything :-)
Not the best song production I've ever heard.

muito boa
I listen it every time I do the dishes.helpful.
No question the engineers have crucified this, but the band shines thru. Would love to hear this remixed.
I agree, too much
never listened the original, but i think this is seriously good
She is a better singer and more beautiful than kate perry
And don't forget she plays the guitar while singing
Why would you even compare them? What's the point?
In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet
@@dougramsay6469what does this mean
It's a good cover
The proper version !!!
I like this better than the original :)

2018
wait... is the drummer wearing a swim deep shirt?
The bands are good friends with each other, since Ellie is dating the lead singer of Swim Deep
Is that The Stone Roses at the beginning?
Yea, waterfall, a classic
You're gonna barely hear me squeak...
the guy from guitar looks very alike like nate from six feet under
its just different from the original version!
Drummers got a swim deep shirt :)
I think I fell off my seat first time I heard this
Why do you Katy Perry when you have Ellie
GD man. Someone plz explain to me the current fascination with cover songs all over the place now.
Roses
SoO much better than original.
You're gonna hear me meow.
Is the Drummer the lost third brother of the lemon twigs brothers?? Yo!
you are a not to bad singer
I think this would be much more awesome if you performed this with more of a dubstep beat.
I don't see why people are labeling this version of the song as "grunge". There's nothing "grungy" about it. It sounds like indie pop/rock to me. And that's okay, but whatever. At least it's better than the original.
***** It sounds like grunge and thats a compliment obviously your too young to remember
qwer8907 Maybe. I listen to "grunge" music, but I kind of thought that for it to be labeled that, there would have to be some rougher vocals, a heavier sound... I guess I know nothing though.
its fine u have good taste in music
Unnecessary to put a label on it. Just listen and enjoy, or don't enjoy and move on.
I agree. There is nothing grunge about this. People don't understand what grunge is.
I'm sorry, I kind of started giggling when the drums kicked in x)
MARRY me!!!
wow! this is how a silly pop song can become COOL!
having said that, the original is very good, too. but the Wolf Alice version is brilliant
i never heard her ROAR
