Thanks Bryn and Christine. The point about anger at 35:38 was incredibly powerful.
Like you, Bryn, I'm originally from the English midlands. I went to state boarding school in South Africa in the 1980s. And fortunately only for 3 years - I was able to be a day pupil for my last two years. If I hadn't...
My heart goes out to those who had to go at 7/8 years old or even even younger. And to anyone on the autism spectrum, who are LGBTQ+, and the first black kids who attended the school when S.Africa opened up, just in terms of the cultural jump they had to make and discrimination they'd have had to face.

Thanks. I spent the day cleaning out my mums stuff. She died at home, not telling anyone that she was ill. (I was there with her as I'd figured it out) she was sent to boarding school at 5 in the UK. She refused hospital saying "I was raised in an institution- I'm not dying in one. Adding up the amount of money she spent at the pokies in two years blew my mind. Her privateness and her lonliness and lack on close friends astounded me. Her brother was three. Recently buried him to. It explains so much. Peas in a Pod they were. 😞

Thanks for the Intro Piers - between the conversation with Nick and Christine, there's a really solid complementary pair of conversation that both covers this issue in some depth while also being locationally specific and relevant to the country I now live in.
Seems we're both doing some solid work in this area - bravo

@@BrynEdwards Hi Bryn, yes, it is lovely seeing people have conversations about these 'hidden' or taboo subjects. Thank you for your courage in speaking up about the Australian side of things. As Christine said, no one seems to be having this discussion about boarding schools in Australia. I look forward to speaking to you soon, Piers

Not many people are watching these. What does tell us about this dire problem.?
