Been playing for 6 years and still watch these. Very helpful for newer players and veterans alike. Good to know what the meta is. Keep up the good work sir!
I have not stopped making budget decks, in fact, this is a more budget-ish deck as far as competitive standard goes. I will be posting more decks as the weeks go by, both budget and tier 1.
Looking forward to see what you say about Junk tokens, as that's pretty similar to what I'm running (Junk midrange). Also, didn't know that you can target planeswalkers with Hellrider's ability, definitely something that I'm glad I now know, keep up the good work!
Compared to a lot of the other Tier 1 decks that are in the Standard Format, this is definitely a budget list for competitive players. My Jund Midrage deck costs anywhere from $600 and up.
This is true to a degree. Vexing devils 'choice' basically comes down to whether or not your opponent has 12 or less life before midrange, they're pretty much a guaranteed 4/3 for R with enough mana to Volley if they decide to take the 4. Each side of that coin has a strategic advantage; your opponent isn't the only one making a 'choice' and as long as you're under turn 5, you can work with either choice in devastating ways, even if he ends up food for Dora.
haha it's all fine, I'm used to people asking questions about main or side-board options but Vexing Devil is one of those cards that is good but not "that" good. There are better cards that provide an impact on the game and that's the reason why, out of all of the SCGO R/B builds, the highest placing deck that used Vexing Devil came in 12th place while others surpassed it.
I personally think that vampire nighthawk would be a great addition. while using him for aggro with flying and deathtouch you still gain life. it's sooo good
That's true so essentially it's a bump in the night that deals 4 damage instead of 3. Either way I feel like it's a must for a burn deck like this. BTW I didn't mean to offend or anything by my comments, I respect your deck techs and think your a crazy good magic player, I'm just trying to make a case for the vexing devil haha
Oh, there's also Rakdos, Lord of Riots, only catch is that he's BBRR and you might have problems fixing mana for that if you're not running even amounts of both colors, or dont have a full playset of summits and crypts to go with it.
my rakdos deck is a combination of Vamps and Zombitches. It uses Hellrider, Falkenrath aristocrat, Geralf's Messenger ect. and a few other interesting cards. One thing I do have to say though about your deck, is that I would take out 2 stromkirk nobles, and maybe put in 2 Vexing devils, for more variety, and a better card.
for creature removal a fun card I have in my Rakdos burn is Killing Wave. Also I like using Vexing devil for some early burn, and by turn three with lightning mauler and undying vexing devil (before the opponent takes life) can cause some hefty damage turn 3 with a vexing devil with haste. Maybe not the greatest devil creature, but turn four I have my Hellriders, Falkenwrath Arsitocrat, Archwing Dragon, and Desecration Demon! Also splashed in green for Deathwrite Shaman life gain and more damage.
sideboard could use duress over say mortars, you have so much removal already. Taking a planeswalker, wrath, or sphinx's revelation for one mana is really good. And the information of knowing what is in their hand doesn't hurt. you have lots of spot removal, and bonfires is a also a good sweeper at six mana.
I would love to see a Mono-Black Control for Standard play; I find it very difficult to pull off with aggro decks, so I'd love to see if you can construct one that can deal with aggro's with Mutilates and beyond.
Vexing Devil is not a staple. It only deals 4 damage when they don't let it stay on the field. Other creatures are able to attack multiple times and do much more damage in whole.
Its like, the most underrated card in the world. Or just most unseen. People often think lightning bolt is the best burn card, but bump in the night does the same thing, is legal, has flashback (very expensive, but better than nothing) and is black.
Because it doesn't stick. When it hits the table, your opponent will almost always pay the life to get rid of it. Creatures aren't as huge but they are important when it comes to playing off of Hellrider and Falkenrath Aristocrat. The thing about the burn spells in the deck is that they are universally good for direct damage and also clearing the board when it comes to attacking with a creature like Stromkirk Noble.
The Lord of Riots costs BBRR, which is extremely precise, unlike the Falkenrath Aristocrats here. Plus they can only be cast if a creature died this turn, and the second ability really doesn't do much after turn 4 considering you should be pretty much top decking by then, if you're not already. So even if you can cast creature spells for cheap, you might not have a whole lot of them in your hand.
I run a similar Mono red deck. If you would like, try out Pyreheart wolf and Mogg Flunkies. wolf is great because it survives a board sweep one time and it is sick when you play hellrider the next turn. Basically slap it turn 3 and they are like whatever it's a 1/1 and then BAM you swing in with a hellrider, they take 4 from his ability, and 8 from the creatures f you curve out well.
I'm missing one Jace from actually showing the build that I would use. Once I get my Jace, I'll record the deck tech for both U/W and also USA control.
I will do Junk, Selesyna, and B/W tokens but I don't know how much I favor Esper Tokens at this point. Esper is lacking the Watery Grave that I really want to be in standard right now.
The biggest hole i've seen in these rakados decks is spot removal, just one well timed unsummon, dramatic rescue, or azorius charm can set this deck back more than a turn. It needs some later game plays.
Here is a two-part question/comment: 1. What sleeves do you play with/recommend? 2. It would be pretty damn cool if you did a tribal-like deck. (IE: Kithkin, Treefolk, Merfolk, etc.)
Hi, dude! I was watching your tutorial and I'm thinking of making a similar deck. But I have a question: Falkenrath Aristocrat is a card very, very, very expensive! I thought about putting Olivia Voldaren (which I love!) Replacing Aristocrat! I also thought of adding 3x "Cathedral of War"! What do you think? The deck will continue working well? Thanks for helping me! ;)
What's your thought on Pillar of Flame vs Mugging or Shock? I'm just thinking about the instant speed vs the sorcery speed, even though graveyard hate is better. The reason I bring up Mugging is because of things like Loxodon Smiter who you probably won't be killing to easily but you don't want blocking either. Thoughts?
Now that gatecrash is out, would you consider mugging over pillar of flame in a metagame that's weak on zombies? Also, my friend runs a rakdos rush on 20 lands. Do you think this is a riskly low number?
Any budget replacements for Falkenrath Aristocrat? I was thinking of Vampire Nighthawk, but I'm not sure. Also, any place in the deck to add a planeswalker like Chandra, Firebrand? Thanks for the reply (If any)
Any updates on this with gatecrash? Iam quite literally running this exact deck and it was great before gatecrash, but now with Boros Reckener and other things I always fall behind by one or two life and die. I was considering siding Bump with T-Slip so when I sac a creature with Falkenrath I can Morbid. Any advice?
I actually added more black in my version and ran a playset of Gravecrawlers, Geralf's Messengers, and Diregraf Ghouls. Also run Traitorous Bloods to take control and sack their creatures. Just make sure you take out Ash Zealots before you do this.
How do you feel about some of the Vampires( Nighthawk, Markov Blademaster, Falkenrath Marauders) Or some other general red beatsticks like Thundermaw Hellkite?
Yeah you could. That'd be a good 2 for 1, and even more so if that creature was a human :D Though it means that you don't really get to swing with it since you'd probably sac to the Aristocrat before it attacks...
I do like this deck, one question tho.. I prefer having a Thundermaw Hellkite in my red decks.. Do you think it would still work well replacing a 4 drop Falkenrath Aristocrat for a 5 drop Thundermaw Hellkite?
Falkenrath Marauders aren't bad provided you get their swing off unblocked and they have haste, and olivia voldaren/hellhole flailers instead of aristocrats I guess?
it might not stay on the field, but a lot of time you can deal 12-16 damage in 3 or 4 turns and when it does stay on the field its an early game creature that's very hard for your opponent to deal with
Hey just wondering, Anything on a post-mono black control yet? I am trying to build something but just having a few holes to fill up at the moment. Thanks for your time.
my deck is similar to urs except i dont use hell rider, falkenrath aristocrat, bump in the night, or flames of the firebrand. instead i use...vexing devil, pyreheart wolf, lighting mauler, rakdos, lord of riots, and knight of infamy...cool vid
What about Vexing Devil? It is a very agro card and you can have your opponents lose a lot of life or put a 4\3 creature just in one red mana... I think this card should be on the list. And what about Rakdos's Return? This card is pretty agro too... You can deal a nice amount of damage to your opponent and also discard a big part of his hand. I would put it in the sideboard at least.
i saw this awesome combo with R/B its desecration demon and essence harvest... i think.. its a black 2 generic spell that you gain x life and they lose x life, x is power of largest creature, it works really well.
Izzet Burn actually works a lot better because Izzet have things like Hypersonic Dragon and Goblin Electromancer, which makes casting instants and sorcery's MUCH easier also the dragons are good because I have had experience with burn failing in the late game so he's good because he's 5 mana 4/4 flying, haste.
I am playing mine without shred freak and nobles instead 3 vexing devils, 2 deathrite shaman and a rakdos lord of riots and i wanna replace 4 swamps with overgrown tombs what do u think??
I run a very similar deck, and I can tell you from personal experience that, while Olivia has more utility and is a lot better in midrange, the Aristocrat will end the game for you before midrange ever happens. Entirely your choice, but I prefer winning sooner than later :D

They're SCG's "I'd Tap That" sleeves; you can see the backs at around 1:03 when he drops a card.
Compared to a lot of the other Tier 1 decks that are in the Standard Format, this is definitely a budget list for competitive players. My Jund Midrage deck costs anywhere from $600 and up.

Azorius Aggro! It's what I'm building and has yielded some pretty good results so far.
@Nate Lightner outside of the Ravnica lore, Rakdos is just a simpler way of saying Red/Black.
This is why I consider Bump in the Night the most underrated card in the innistad block. It's 3 lost life, costing one solid color

I will be covering USA control as soon as I get another Jace AoT
my rakdos deck is a combination of Vamps and Zombitches.
I will cover Junk Midrange, which uses French Rites as a synergy to the build.
for creature removal a fun card I have in my Rakdos burn is Killing Wave. even with one less creature, the deck still has power in numbers and plenty of damage in the form of creatures and non-creature spells as well
sideboard could use duress over say mortars, you have so much removal already. Taking a planeswalker, wrath, or sphinx's revelation for one mana is really good. And the information of knowing what is in their hand doesn't hurt. you have lots of spot removal, and bonfires is a also a good sweeper at six mana.

Vexing Devil is not a staple. It only deals 4 damage when they don't let it stay on the field. Other creatures are able to attack multiple times and do much more damage in whole.
Absolutely, because in a build like this one, you don't need it unless you play against a deck with a lot of smaller creatures
Its like, the most underrated card in the world. Or just most unseen.
People often think lightning bolt is the best burn card, but bump in the night does the same thing, is legal, has flashback (very expensive, but better than nothing) and is black.

i love searing spear art, it looks sweet
The Lord of Riots costs BBRR, which is extremely precise, unlike the Falkenrath Aristocrats here. Love these deck tecks. Hope to see more. Any chance of getting a Blue/White one soon?
Surprised to see no Mizzium mortars.
I really like the deck though! How did playtesting it go? What were the strong-weak matchups?
I'm missing one Jace from actually showing the build that I would use. Once I get my Jace, I'll record the deck tech for both U/W and also USA control.
Would love to see your ideas for updating this deck after the upcoming rotation.
Nice deck man. Will be building it after I acquire the parts.
@AjemanCinnajob hey can you do a remake of your rakdos burn deck after the october rotation? i like that deck alot. so will you do a remake?
Here is a two-part question/comment:
1. What sleeves do you play with/recommend?
2. It would be pretty damn cool if you did a tribal-like deck. (IE: Kithkin, Treefolk, Merfolk, etc.)
I actually added in 2 olivia voldarens and 2 rakdos keyrunes (Board wipes), and it seems to be doing great for me
Thanks for helping me! ;)
O.o nice deck :) i´ll prolly be making this....btw why did you stop making budget Decks? many of my friends are playing the ones you already made.
Thoughts?
ever think of using "curse of stalked prey," with aggro decks? I just think its a pretty cool enchantment for 2 costing.
nice deck tech, what about Cryptborn Horror and havoc festival?
I also have this doubt because Falkenrath Aristocrat is a very expensive card! I thought about Olivia Voldaren! What do you think?
could you please do an update on this one when Dragon's Maze comes out? I think the blood which is really cool
@AjemanCinnajob hey can you do a remake of your rakdos burn deck after the october rotation?
If you do a azious deck tech, can you show the sideboard as well?
Now that gatecrash is out, would you consider mugging over pillar of flame in a metagame that's weak on zombies?
Also, my friend runs a rakdos rush on 20 lands. Do you think this is a riskly low number?
You have THE best videos. You speak clearly and explain cards well. I am new and love your videos. Keep up the great videos. How about a sliver deck?
Ever think of making a uw human tribal deck with invisible stalker and enchantments?
would like to see you cover GW aggro or GW tokens
Any budget replacements for Falkenrath Aristocrat?
I was thinking of Vampire Nighthawk, but I'm not sure.
Also, any place in the deck to add a planeswalker like Chandra, Firebrand?
Thanks for the reply (If any)
Is Cackler like you favorite card? 'Cause this is the third deck I've seen of yours that runs a play set.
Could you potentially make a blue black dimir themed deck?
Yeah I'm pretty sure those are the same ones I use. It's just that little sticker on the bottom makes my deck seem way bigger than it actually is
Great deck I will be changing my Rakdos Aggro Devil deck a little bit, you should trade out stormkirk noble with x4 Vexing Devil.
Would love to see a jund aggro deck tech ...
How do you feel about some of the Vampires( Nighthawk, Markov Blademaster, Falkenrath Marauders) Or some other general red beatsticks like Thundermaw Hellkite?
Can you do a remake of this deck after the October roation
Yeah you could. That'd be a good 2 for 1, and even more so if that creature was a human :D Though it means that you don't really get to swing with it since you'd probably sac to the Aristocrat before it attacks...
Sometimes it feels like your channel was crated just for me because every single time you upload a deck tech it's a deck I was thinking of building.
I do like this deck, one question tho.. I prefer having a Thundermaw Hellkite in my red decks.. Do you think it would still work well replacing a 4 drop Falkenrath Aristocrat for a 5 drop Thundermaw Hellkite?
Why dont you run Wound Reflection? Its so awesome!
Falkenrath Marauders aren't bad provided you get their swing off unblocked and they have haste, and olivia voldaren/hellhole flailers instead of aristocrats I guess?
What would you think of putting in two Rogues Passage so you can get something like the Noble in even in later turns?
it might not stay on the field, but a lot of time you can deal 12-16 damage in 3 or 4 turns and when it does stay on the field its an early game creature that's very hard for your opponent to deal with
Hey just wondering, Anything on a post-mono black control yet? I am trying to build something but just having a few holes to fill up at the moment. Thanks for your time.
9:20 through 9:22 Boston accent on point
I would really like to see a Dimir deck
the cackler is a awesome one drop :)
Would having Traitorous Instinct be more useful than Traitorous Blood? I think the one mana difference is made up with the +2/+0 instead of trample
So nice videos and all, but are you any good?
You should please make an izzet midrange tempo.
my deck is similar to urs except i dont use hell rider, falkenrath aristocrat, bump in the night, or flames of the firebrand. instead i use...vexing devil, pyreheart wolf, lighting mauler, rakdos, lord of riots, and knight of infamy...cool vid
You can always add in vexing devils in this deck for sure
this is the deck that i run i wonder how different yours is from mine
no vexing devil? It should be one of the staples for this deck
Could you take one of their creatures with Traitorous Blood and then sacrifice it with Falkenrath Aristocrat?
Think you can do Selesyna aggro in the near future?
What about Vexing Devil? It is a very agro card and you can have your opponents lose a lot of life or put a 4\3 creature just in one red mana... I think this card should be on the list. And what about Rakdos's Return? This card is pretty agro too... You can deal a nice amount of damage to your opponent and also discard a big part of his hand. i saw this awesome combo with R/B its desecration demon and essence harvest... i think..
its a black 2 generic spell that you gain x life and they lose x life, x is power of largest creature, it works really well.
I would like to see a Rakdo's Control Deck
I think you should run two lightning maulers instead of 2 ash zealots it works a little nicer when playing against big creature green decks
I have a question for AjemanCinnajob. Could you use rakdos instead if the aristicrat?
Izzet Burn actually works a lot better because Izzet have things like Hypersonic Dragon and Goblin Electromancer, which makes casting instants and sorcery's MUCH easier also the dragons are good because I have had experience with burn failing in the late game so he's good because he's 5 mana 4/4 flying, haste.
@AjemanCinnajob could I use radios instead of the falkenkenrath aristocrat
really good deck! my only point is that i would also put 'tormented soul' in it. it's a one swamp mana 1/1 unblockable creature
No Thundermaw? He is an amazing finisher for a deck like this.
Hey what are tiers? Like I don't understand how you can tell what tier a deck is?
could u do a green whit serra avatar deck or an ajani deck
is there any thing you would add to this deck now?
Ash Zealot and Bump In The Night in the same deck?
I am playing mine without shred freak and nobles instead 3 vexing devils, 2 deathrite shaman and a rakdos lord of riots and i wanna replace 4 swamps with overgrown tombs what do u think??
Why no liliana the dark realms? With shock lands shes amazing
what should i do if i dont have any blood crypt for this deck? really dont feel like spending money on them.
AjemanCinnajob, I checked the mtgwebsite and it said you can not shock planeswalkers is this true?
I run a very similar deck, and I can tell you from personal experience that, while Olivia has more utility and is a lot better in midrange, the Aristocrat will end the game for you before midrange ever happens. Entirely your choice, but I prefer winning sooner than later :D
Personally I use, Ultra Pro Matte Sleeves (just not Pro-Matte sleeves, they are too foggy).
would rakdos lord of riots be good in this deck?
