This movie was a perfect end to Maverick's story arc. Tom and the whole crew did a fantastic job and kudos to all the US Navy pilots who contributed their amazing flying skills to this epic movie.

Yes, this is what sailing is, albeit they trimmed that boat (a racing J-125, last built in 2003, current price $300,000) to heel a lot and "dip the rail' (I do that sometimes on our sailboat). I estimate the wind to be around 25 -30 knots (my wife refuses to go sailing in anything above 20 knots). The sailing sequence was really filmed on the water, with Jennifer Connely really steering (you don't "drive" a boat), and it was filmed in two takes, because Tom Cruise wanted more speed and more wind. Notice, there aren't any other sailboat on water at that time. When Maverick slips and she asks "are you OK," was not scripted - Tom really slipped and she was really concerned. Overall, I give that scene an A- on authenticity (to set up that blue Gennaker, they would have to change direction by at least 90 degrees, and more likely 120 degrees, i.e. start going back from where they started...
Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny (Jennifer Connelly) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.
There was another sneaky easter egg that Glenn Powell did on his own in the bar. Don't know if you caught it when you saw the movie but the production team did not see it till post. Watch what he does when he goes to the jukebox, he hits 86 on the keypad which is the year the first movie came out.

The position is a Vice Admiral (O9) billet as shown in the movie and is located at North Island. The current real Chief of Naval Air Forces VADM. Whitesell earned his wings of gold back when the first TOPGUN movie came out.

She charges likely a good 1k worth of booze to someone on any given busy night, and when they can’t pay, she kicks them out. So she’s basically out a shit ton of money every year because she gives someone a bill most can’t afford on a night out.

You edit out entirely too much. 6 seconds is the key. That’s why when Vines first came out they were limited to 6 seconds. You can post a straight up movie, no reaction, if you edit out every 7th second and there is nothing YT or the studios can do about it. Unfortunately, they are too jumpy to enjoy those movies. But they’re on here.
