Loved your emotional and heartfelt reaction to this. She was 1 in a billion ... and still is one of the greatest female vocalists ever!

She was a master at making you feel the lyrics. And her voice was one of a kind! Such a powerhouse but delicate and emotional as well. She knew when to put the power behind it and when not to.

Thank you for giving Marie the attention she deserves. She was not a metal or goth singer, but she was a soulful and rocker singer, and she sang with passion and love for those who adored her. I've loved her for 30 years, so thank you for respecting her legacy.

Roxette was the first cassette tape I owned. I was a little kid of about 8 or 9 years old. I stopped your video 2 seconds after she started singing, because I started bawling like a baby. She was something special.

In 87 I got an LP player with double cassette deck and 1 LP, the LP was Roxette Pearls of Passion. What a debut album, so many amazing tracks.

Its almost like roxette is the casset band. Live just between LP and CD in the smal gap (1997-1991) when neither was popular.

I can't watch Marie now without being choked and emotional. Such a sad sad loss, but hey, we were blessed to have her while she was here :(

Marie of Roxette was the BEST. Her voice just takes you to another place. RIP, sweet angel, Marie. She sings to God and His angels now.

This song made me understand that a singer didn't have to SHOUT to get the point across. A voice can be soft, gentle, SAD, and also very powerful. I loved listening to it on the radio. It really packed a melancholy slap. It told a HURTFUL story, like the blues. But it was POP. Marie made this song LUXURIOUS with deep, soulful meaning.
Unless we live under a rock, we have all had a heart stabbing loss of some kind, leaving us bewildered, staggered, bereft, and unable to cope. So THIS song, even though it wasn't the blues, really WAS the Blues.
One of the reasons that I love Nightwish so much, after just discovering them about ( Jehosephat!) a month ago, is that Tuomas puts ALL of his heart and soul out there, in the lyrics and music. Emotional exhibitionism. He uses the other members of the band as his voice and means of narration, but it's mostly all him. And its LAVISH!!! How do I explain? Ah...if you are an emotional vampire, you don't go away hungry.

This is a superb reaction and analysis. I have been kinda in love with Marie since "The Look" and a poor musician BUT i SOOOOOO agree with all you are saying here. Not first language, quality of execution and song writing,. You are just correct with EVERYTHING you say. Not just about Marie/Roxette but music in general. You have a new subscriber here!

I didnt know what was going on. Lifes a funny old thing. Great reaction

Hello Nat ☺ I don't think I'd ever heard the live version of this classic... beautiful. The song takes me right into the movie Pretty Woman. Another great female-lead song from a well-known movie is Jane Siberry's "It Can't Rain All The Time" from The Crow. (She also did an incredible duet w/ K.d Lang on the song "Calling All Angels"). Thank You for another enjoyable reaction & take care.

I absolutely loved your reaction. Please, please do yourself a favor and listen to her 1990 soloalbum Den Standiga Resan. I still hate myself for not having discovered it earlier on. She wrote all the material herself and it’s a very haunting, dark and personal record. Completely different from Roxette, though I love them. I don’t speak Swedish but the music and her voice make you understand everything you need to understand, with topics such as death and suicide it’s something different. Stuff she couldn’t express in the band. And her voice is a-ma-zing on that record. Would love to hear you do a review on that one!

Thanks, really loved that! What a voice that woman possessed. Speaking of the dead, shouldn't you do one on Ian Curtis, missed by so many, 40 years this year? I'd love to hear your take on Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades".
