She was a very tall imposing woman who had an amazing voice and a fierce temper. This, according to a roadie friend of mine who worked their gig in Melbourne Australia (in the 90s), who found out while attending to the lead vocal mic before soundcheck - she came up behind him and yelled at him for looping the mic cable around the stand before promptly pushing him off the 8 or 10 feet high stage. He, landing on his back, resolved to not make that mistake again. The pressure of touring huh :) And I with my own unrelated claim to fame of having Maralyn Manson spit on me against my will. I was stuck in the mosh and my arms were tightly pinned, he spat into the crowd and all i could do was watch it lob from his lips in a perfect arch landing on my left cheek just under my eye... there will never be a time like the 90s in live music :)

When trying to learn by ear I have a really hard time when the tone is not close to the song. I have a Gretsch and if I pick it up to learn a rock song, it is hard to match the sound of the key and chords for me. I am relatively tone deaf but I am working on changing that, but man, it aint easy for me at all!!!
RIP Marie Fredriksson. Roxette were never really my jam at the time. I was into the Grateful Dead, indie/alt, metal and electronic music (house and idm) through the Roxette years. But like a lot of the pop(ular) music of that era, in hindsight it was much better than I gave it credit for being (from a purely musical standpoint - still not my kind of music, but I can appreciate how much better it was than the "pop" of the last 10 years or so). At least it was still artists/musicians writing their own songs and creating their own sound (for the most part). They were both songwriters and had various levels of success in Sweden before Roxette had even formed as a duo. Edit: Don't at me brehs, I understand there has always been a system that created artists, wrote songs for them, produced the music, etc. It's not the same now. It's just not. It's the last gasp, imo. The next 20 years are going to be very interesting for the music "business".

That's the great thing about learning a instrument , if you can understand the logistics and pull apart a song and know what's happening musically it can take a song you have heard a million times and expose its essence. I also find the songs that you learn that are harder and challenge you and your ability become really special to you. Great song. Can't help but feel a little robbed of the original high vocal notes though. So used to the original with the powerhouse vocal lines that this felt very safe vocally.

When I'm in a major key I consider the 3rd flat if its a semitone down from the major 3rd (very common language when playing a blues i.e playing a 'G' natural in an E major blues is playing the flat 3rd - - but in B Minor it's simply the minor 3rd (never think of it as the flat 3rd when I'm already in a minor key) - ditto with the A note - in B Minor it's just the seventh? Appears unnecessarily confusing to me to hear the scale described with constant flats ....never heard that before. B minor has two sharps - so you should describe the notes that are sharp i.e c# = major 2nd and f# is just the fifth (common in both b minor and b major) - seems if you're teaching theory you should be really precise and simplify
What’s the difference between a major scale and the minor scale at the same root? The 3rd is flattened, the 6th is flattened and the 7th is flattened. That’s all he’s saying. It’s the same as saying “mixolydian is just major with a flat 7”. It’s just a different way to think about the notes (but more importantly the intervals) in the scale.

If he was in B major and describing a natural A note, saying the natural seventh or even the flattened seventh would be helpful. In B major if you play a D natural note then yes that is a flat 3rd as the key signature for B major indicates that all D notes are sharp (major 3rds). So in B major you need to flatten the scale degree by one semitone and then you achieve a flat 3rd. But in B minor, and working in a *minor key* that has two 2 Sharps saying the flattened 7th or the flattened 3rd is just wrong. You don't need to flatten the scale degree in B minor to achieve a flattened 3rd. It's already a minor 3rd according to its key signature. And since that note is D one should avoid saying flattened 3rd when working in B minor because you risk confusing anyone who uses the key signature. In a minor key they're simply the 3 and the 7 (in B minor this is D and A). With the key signature of B minor already indicating a natural D we just use the phrase a minor third, or 3 since we're already in a minor key. If the D was sharp in B minor we'd indicate a raised third or sharp third. Describing a B minor scale using flats with the scale degree number is one of the most un-theory like notions I've encountered. It's far simpler and more accurate to think of them as 1 (B) 2 (C#), 3 (D), 4 (E), 5 (f#), 6 (g) & 7 (A) with the key signature applied. It's far more important to know the key signature than a very confusing modal based numeric that appears anchored to the major key even when working in minor. I'm not sure how Michael was educated musically but theory wise it's confusing to me what he's saying in this video. I haven't watched a lot of his videos and perhaps he has a way of thinking that anchors all harmony from the major scale degrees and then translates that to everything else. That's a lot of work and I'm not sure it helps anyone understand scale degrees.

Yeah, that's because Marie was sick during this performance. You can tell her voice was very strained so she dodged the high notes.

When I'm in a major key I consider the 3rd flat if its a semitone down from the major 3rd (very common language when playing a blues i.e playing a 'G' natural in an E major blues is playing the flat 3rd - - but in B Minor it's simply the minor 3rd (never think of it as the flat 3rd when I'm already in a minor key) - ditto with the A note - in B Minor it's just the seventh? Appears unnecessarily confusing to me to hear the scale described with constant flats ....never heard that before. B minor has two sharps - so you should describe the notes that are sharp i.e c# = major 2nd and f# is just the fifth (common in both b minor and b major) - seems if you're teaching theory you should be really precise and simplify
What’s the difference between a major scale and the minor scale at the same root? The 3rd is flattened, the 6th is flattened and the 7th is flattened. That’s all he’s saying. It’s the same as saying “mixolydian is just major with a flat 7”. It’s just a different way to think about the notes (but more importantly the intervals) in the scale.
@@lolpwnnubs Yes the terminology works when describing notes *when working in the major key*. If he was in B major and describing a natural A note, saying the natural seventh or even the flattened seventh would be helpful. In B major if you play a D natural note then yes that is a flat 3rd as the key signature for B major indicates that all D notes are sharp (major 3rds). So in B major you need to flatten the scale degree by one semitone and then you achieve a flat 3rd.
But in B minor, and working in a *minor key* that has two 2 Sharps saying the flattened 7th or the flattened 3rd is just wrong. You don't need to flatten the scale degree in B minor to achieve a flattened 3rd. It's already a minor 3rd according to its key signature. And since that note is D one should avoid saying flattened 3rd when working in B minor because you risk confusing anyone who uses the key signature.
In a minor key they're simply the 3 and the 7 (in B minor this is D and A). With the key signature of B minor already indicating a natural D we just use the phrase a minor third, or 3 since we're already in a minor key. If the D was sharp in B minor we'd indicate a raised third or sharp third. Describing a B minor scale using flats with the scale degree number is one of the most un-theory like notions I've encountered.
It's far simpler and more accurate to think of them as 1 (B) 2 (C#), 3 (D), 4 (E), 5 (f#), 6 (g) & 7 (A) with the key signature applied. It's far more important to know the key signature than a very confusing modal based numeric that appears anchored to the major key even when working in minor. I'm not sure how Michael was educated musically but theory wise it's confusing to me what he's saying in this video. I haven't watched a lot of his videos and perhaps he has a way of thinking that anchors all harmony from the major scale degrees and then translates that to everything else. That's a lot of work and I'm not sure it helps anyone understand scale degrees.

I doubt Roxette paid any royalties to Steinberg/Kelly for Listen to your Heart....Funny the title even has the name of the band they ripped off LOL
