I'm watching this from the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in Utah during a storm howling outside my door. By the comfort of a fire and hot coco. But, what is it about all that work and suffering we love so much? It's the challenge that reveals the beauty, not only in the landscape but within. It's good to feel alive.
It’s good to feel alive indeed!!!!!
Yeah the BBQ lighter was not my best decision hahaha! Again, love hiking with you, buddy! Cheers!
❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌🙌
When your buddy pulled that lighter out of his jacket 😂
Must be a BBQ guy 😄
right!? lol I couldn't stop laughing!!! haha
Stunning landscape and scenery, and nice to end the hike with some winter sunshine! You have top notch gear too, and I'm appreciating your cumulative experiences, insights and advice about moisture management. Thanks for another great video Marty. Nigel .... in a milder Scotland!
Thank you my friend :)
Hey Marty, for vapour barrier liners for my feet, I like using food portion bags that I buy from a local restaurant supplier. A 10lb bag is a good size. They’re the right size and possibly sturdier than a garbage bag and because they’re small you can bring a stash for using on subsequent days.
Interesting!!! Thanks for the info I’ll look into it :)
Great trip, rugged beautiful and nice area. Full winter conditions plus great sunshine and mild at the end. Great options, peaks and lakes. I failed at my goals in Maine this winter I however did go out, try new gear and spent a night in the tent getting better with it all. I was losing weight and did some training this summer but put most the 4O pounds back on probably. Going to make a go of it again this year, diet, biking and hiking
Good for you my friend! Never stop trying! Thanks for watching and I’m glad you got out :)
Peak Refuel and Pinnacle foods make the best meals I have ever tried! Very good. Wise decision to alter the hike for safety sake. Winter is not the time to push limits on a two night fun trip.
🙌🙌🙌
Incredible landscape. Good call not to push to hard 💯
Thanks my friend :)
Nice backpacking trip! I recognized some of the locations. You are pretty well equipped now. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻
Thanks my friend! yeah this year I got to try a lot of new gear!
I am sure the local DEC Forest Rangers appreciate your decision making........wishing more hikers would do the same!
Yeah no kidding! Thanks for watching :)
That was epic. Beautiful video 👏 ! I have to go there in winter. I have already done Colden in summer and camped at the same spot as yours 😊. But I would definitely loved doing it in winter. I am not to far living in St-jean-sur-richelieu in Québec.
Yeah I’ve always really enjoyed the high peaks in the winter personally! Thanks for watching!
Good for you respecting physical limits and avoiding unnecessary risk. You were definitely rewarded with a beautiful view on avalanche lake!
Also, thanks for talking about the thing that no one talks about: the freeze dried meal farts! I usually make my own dehydrated meals but when I don’t have time I’ll try that brand. My husband/other camping partners thank you 😂
Mainly your tent mates will love you for trying something different!!!! lol
@@martymorissette hahaha yes definitely 😂
You are crazy man. I did a trip like this yesterday and it got to a point where I had to put the camera away. Way too close to the edge for me but you out there in a blizzard filming calmly. Respect.
Hahaha thanks my friend! If you know you know! Cheers
I really like the peak refuel meals. Cheers Marty!! Great trip.
Thank you :)
Depends on the dish, but Peak Refuel also generally has a lot more calories than Mountain House etc. which is a huge plus.
yes! And it needs next to zero water to rehydrate!!!!!
When I get upper back pain after exercise in cold, it's usually in large part because of rapid cooling that happens to my muscles when I get hot in cold weather, I sweat, and I don't wear a shell because I need to stay dry. I know the solution already but it's so inconvenient. I need to layer down to 1 or 2 light fleece layers and a softshell, and pack away my vest, it's just a pain, but rapid muscle cooling is even more painful! 100% ultimate athlete's food is potato chips! Best source of potatossium. I also love spicy ramen in the cold it warms me up so good and hydrates complete with salt.
My upper back pain was from the crook in my neck personnally.... And yes chips are amazing!!! hahaha
Classic Pierre Extreme video!
😂😂🙌🙌🙌
Love the beast mode hiking!!!
I need to invest in some puffy pants!! my legs struggle with my current system... also I've tryed like 4 different brands of meals. They taste fine but come out in 8-9 hours not looking much different than going in 😂 I have my gear video edited, going to a friend's to upload later today hopefully...
Thanks my friend and yes... those freeze dried meals are horrible for that! lol didn't have that issue with peak refuel
Great video!!I also own the MEC TGV tent and love it.I spent five days crossing the CapeBreton Highlands 60km through rough blizzard’s and extreme temperatures with this tent ⛺️.No issue at all and find it roomy. On a side note,I use a piece of white fabric from furniture wrap to lay on my sleeping bag for frost management. This works well,is cheap and super lightweight.Stay frosty my Friend 🙏❄️🌬️
Yea although a little heavy…. In exposed blizzard like condition the TGV would be the one I would take.
Beautiful man!
Thank you brother!
Great video and content! I would carry a ferro rod as a backup to the lighter
I don't typically in a backpacking trip but yes it's always good to have
Smart move changing the route when needed. The Daks can he serious in the weather you were getting. Nice work out there.
indeed it gets wild sometimes! Thanks for watching brother
It’s really interesting seeing it in the winter. That was my summer playground. You absolutely made the right decision in changing the route/itinerary. 👍🏻
The NYS DEC Rangers and LASAR (Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue) are some of the best!
Thanks man! yeah in the winter time it's so amazing!!!! Their SAR teams are great I'm sure it's just in this blizzard... there is no helli flying!
Bravo my friend, this looks nothing less than amazing! 👏👏👏
It really was :)
Haven't watched your channel in a while, great vid Marty.
thank you :) Did things change a lot?
@@martymorissette All your vids are great but your new ones are definitely better quality. Filming and editing. Just don’t change Marty.
Thx brother :)
That trail up Algonquin from lake colden is a tough one, especially in winter. I think it’s one of the steepest in the park.
It is... it's quite the scarmble!
For sure. Coming down nearly killed me last September.
@@filipstone2 yeah it gets sketchy!
I know that feeling. 3:40. I had the same after I dug out a familysized snowmobile that got stuck waist deep in powder. :D cheers
hahaha yup!
Hey, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting.
If you are trying to mange moisture with your layer system, I'd highly recommend you have a look at mesh base layers. You can read about it, but basically the mesh allows your perspiration to move away from your body. In particular I use upper and lowers from a company called Brynje of Norway. I believe it's from their Super Thermo collection. They aren't cheap, but I found a huge improvement over merino wool. Cheers.
yeah! I've heard about those... I'm a poly base layer kind of guy I find it dries really fast but I'm open to trying the mesh
merci!
I have that exact same fanny pack. I thought they were all different :)
I dont know.... lol
I thought it was just me with the mountain house and the methane gas output. Just extra fuel to get up the hill.
😂😂😂
Nice trip, wondering why you brought the -17 bag instead of your polar ranger??
I wanted to test the limit of the MEC talon -17... and the temperatures were perfect for it! I like to try different gear so I can share them with you guys! It's a fun way to change it up as well!
Wow
Thanks :)
The hunt for the best vp sock continues…
I just found you on your last live stream. awesome content!!! I think I said this, but try out warmlite vbl socks. I've been liking them a ton. fixed all my problems I had with bags
anything good came from Justin's new thing?
ok now I'm intrigued! I ddin't know about them. I'll see if I can try it
@martymorissette I've found that products like what rab makes that are not true vbls don't work that well, especially after wear.
Yeah I didn’t like mine at all
Nice video ! When exactly did you go there this winter?
Around feb 20th
Thanks. I have to go there in winter. I have already done Colden in summer and camped at the same spot as yours 😊. But I would definitely loved doing it in winter. I am not to far living in St-jean-sur-richelieu in Québec.
I it Not allowed to make a Fire?
Nope no fire in the adk :)
Would Fjallraven ever give you a special promo code so we can use it? (viewers and followers)
I purchased a couple items from the brand myself and the quality/ materials are incredible... only a bit pricy... :)
Thank you for all you do, much appreciated, big fan!!!! 🏔 🌨❄
Thanks my friend I appreciate it. I'll ask!
