When l hear this it brings back many memories of when l was an Archaeologist working in South East Arabia. We only had 2 tapes. Time out of mind and Leonard Cohens greatest hits
When this came out My wife was pregnant with our First born and it served as a sound track... We are now Grandparents, and we are divorced Haven't seen her in years.. She left us all Standing in the Doorway... But I am still close with both my sons and Visit my Grandson all the time... She never came home has never seen our Grandson... This song helps somehow
That's frightening.. it's always different when a women leaves all of the sudden, family, kids, a husband broken. My best wishes to you. We being men suffer, women suffer, but men we have it all on our shoulders. Peace my good sir
When listening to 'Time Out of Mind', I always wonder who broke Bob's heart to bring on all those sad songs. Although, apparently, he 'doesn't do autobiographical songs', someone (or something) must have been responsible for the overall mood of that album, I think. In the end, it does not really matter, of course. The sad songs on this album are wonderful whatever their inspiration might be. And the listener feeling deeply for the singer/narrator just shows their quality.
Well, he has like one autobiographical song, Sara. You should check it out if you haven't already. Apart from that obviously autobiographical song, I believe that most of his lyrics have some type of correlation with his life. Especially with Dylan, since his life is so private, we only get to know him through his lyrics.
@@sofiagoa5141 Yeah, I know 'Sara'. And as several of his other songs also seem to be really autobiographical, at least in parts, I added 'apparently' when I tried to paraphrase Bob's own statement that he 'doesn't write autobiographical songs' in my initial comment. I believe he only said that because people always tried (and still do) to read too much into his lyrics. But - as you say - the only way for us to (maybe) catch a glimpse of the 'real' Bob Dylan is through his words. But (correct) autobiographical material might be sparse in there, one might mostly only get information about his mindset from the lyrics.
@@bollykecks I agree with you a 100%! Dylan is not one for answering questions thoroughly and I think it's better that way. Some people need to stop wondering what Dylan means with his lyrics and actually try to build the meaning themselves. It's much more fun that way!
Try listening to "Deal Goes Down"... "Soon After Midnight"... and "Not Dark yet" in prescribed order... Then come back to this song.. the feel will be sublime.
Now that I experienced something beautiful with a girl but it ended because we both agreed that we needed to move on. This song pierced my heart and totally destroyed me. Love is amazing, but damn, it hurts so bad when you miss someone. I just had something amazing and beautiful with a fantastic girl, I still have very very strong feelings towards her and she has all the good stuff of kind person and a keeper. There's good people out there, it is rare to find them but it is possible. We had something, so short yet so sweet that it hurts so bad to be alone again but I'm happy for her and we both part ways amicably. Now I still think about her a lot and I guess time actually helps you heal but I'm still dealing with quite a lot of pain. Anyway, I can't stop thinking about the message in this song and "If You See Her Say Hello," which is how I feel right now. It definitely destroyed me, but I also respect what happened, and now she and I have to keep going little by little. It hurts, it sucks and you have to cry a lot, but that is that. Just try to be kind and a good person everyone, you guys are beautiful and handsome people.

I bought this album when it came out on cassette. The cassette got stuck in my "champagne" '88 Nissan Stanza wagon. I drove it with "Love Sick" and "Cold Irons Bound" as my daily soundtrack from Claremont NH through Cornish, to West Leb, like having Bob with Maxfield Parrish, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, JD Salinger, Donald Hall on a train rolling alongside the old route 12-A. I actually saw Salinger in Amherst as he came out of Kmart. Saw our poet Hall also. Now playing this album on an old phone.

She left him just standing there in the doorway crying.
This song was written shortly after Jerry Garcia died and I always think of him when I hear this song. Oddly if you look underneath the word time and then the moonlight like object, there’s a ghostly like image of a character that looks like Jerry Garcia resting his head on his right hand! Such a beautiful heartbroken song.
i am 70yrs old, Dylan is the poet of my generation.
Bings me to tears this song.
The greatest poet ever in my book
🐐
and music composer too
He is just all around touched, I think we can agree
"I know I can't win but my heart just won't give in" can be applied to many things, and life itself.
"You left me standing in the doorway crying, in the dark land of the sun" might be the most devastatingly beautiful line I have ever heard from Dylan.
So true. So so true.
master of masters
one music genius in 1000 years ago......
I agree
Absolutely. Just a simple juxtaposition of imagery, but you can immediately understand the devastating emotional impact of the realization.
His mastery of language through lyrics and musical composition is truly unparalleled. Legends are few and Bob Dylan is at the top of the list 💕🎸🎶🌈
