I'm not a native English speaker and to be honest I don't understand what Dylan wanted to say here. Still I listen to this almost every day and it fills my heart with a mix of happiness and loneliness. It's asks me to go outside, sit in a beautiful calm place, think about myself to get rid of all sorrows and love to live.
I've heard so many songs and this one moves me deeply. I was lost and couldn't find any reason to be happy. But there's something about Dylans lyrics that make his music almost medicinal. It's transcendental. Magical. Divine.
Makes me think of those rainy mornings when i would look through from my school library window and gaze at the gentle rain falling from the grey skies onto the rooftops of other buildings. We're too mechanical we don't let ourselves feel instead spend most of our energy in relentlessly pursuing the future, our capacity of being able do almost everything has rendered us incapacitated to do things that really matter...too love and to live.

from Rhea Sheerins - I don't know how I found this version. It is almost beyond beautiful. I played it on my lovely alternate tuned martin guitar. Kandinsky once spoke about the "secret soul of things." Such was my experience through the song and into the soul of the instrument - close to uncanny; it seemed like it was leading me. I normally play but do not sing. Yet I do want to sing this song. The metaphors reflect what I feel. Do what you can to bring the dream alive. Our soulless, rather empty, insipid American society needs Bob Dylan again.

God bless all of You Honest Tambourine Men & Women out there, doing your much needed but dangerous line of work. Keep up the good work and ur inventory of fine quality songs, and we will be there following you, every yingle-yangle-morning after another. :)
I first saw Bob in 1987, he didn't play all the stuff i had known him for and sadly i was disappointed, still went again in 1988 ( Birmingham, England) and the same happened. Still love him though 👌✌🎵🎶
The yellow mornings in my early 20s around 2014 and the mellow feelings of a reciprocated love, the realization that I had everything I wanted in my life including the person I loved the most and the whole 20s ahead of me, and this song playing in background when both of us were taking a stroll every morning down the foggy avenue!!! Gone are the days, gone are the people, and yet, the memories stay behind!
For anyone who is wondering: this isn't Bob Dylan obviously.. This particular cover is an indie cover by Helio Sequence. Very good interpretation in my opinion! Vocal line is clear. The acoustic fingerstyle line is fluid and runs smoothly! Nice!
smorrisize It is not Dylan. It's Hello Sequence, whoever they are. Read above, eight under where it says Published Dec. 5, 2013.. And it sounds nothing like Dylan in the early days.
smorrisize It's definitely not. This guy's voice is fuller. He's using a combination of chest, mouth, and nasal resonance. Dylan used a lot of nasal resonance and his voice had a very nasal quality because of it. That nasal quality is not heard here.
@@abdihassan7208 this song was originally written and recorded by Bob Dylan. The guy singing here is a different man. At least it sounds like someone else.
J ai assisté à votre concert au parc des sceaux en 1984 et Monsieur Léonard Cohen est passé à côté de moi ma foi se fut un moment de tant d émotions même si joan baez nous à tellement manqué ce jour là
A non-poetic translation : "Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I’m not sleepy and there is no place I’m going to Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning I’ll come followin’ you" What I believe is important is the use of the word “morning” which inspires ideas of fresh starts, renewal and new starts. Being a “jingle jangle” morning would imply it’s a morning created by this Mr. Tambourine Man, as a tambourine makes a “jingle jangle” sound. "Though I know that evenin’s empire has returned into sand Vanished from my hand Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping" These lines conveys the singer’s mourning over the loss of their childhood. Sand holds connotations of time, being used in phrases like “sand of time” and also in hourglasses. It implies the youthfulness has been lost to time. Finally, when the singer is left blinded but not sleeping, he is saying that he is lost in this post-youthfulness world which is why he is blind, as he cannot see which way he, or his life are going now. The fact he’s not sleeping implies that this is all definitely real, not just a dream, which could hint at the singer not being able to cope with this new reality, but it could also show his wakefulness and how he is still restless and wants to move on in life; he doesn’t want to be trapped in this lost and blinded feeling. "My weariness amazes me, I’m branded on my feet I have no one to meet And the ancient empty street’s too dead for dreaming" When the singer notices how aged he is, how weary he is, he finds it hard to imagine, he’s amazed by it.His reason for being tired could be anything. He could be old and near death, he could be weary mentally, from everything he’s had to endure. Finally, the “empty streets too dead for dreaming”, are, I believe, an analogy for his mind, which is to say that he’s become so uninspired, so tired, that he has no dreams or aspirations anymore. He is too tired to dream, to look beyond to the future. "Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin’ ship" This part of the song is where the singer begins to change as a person, though it starts out similarly to the beginning half of the song. "My senses have been stripped, my hands can’t feel to grip My toes too numb to step" These lines reiterate the singer’s lack of youthfulness in their life. He is confused and doesn’t know anything, hence his senses have been stripped. He can’t hold on to anything atour him, hence his hands can’t feel to grip. He can’t go anywhere, hence his toes are too numb to step. "Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin’ I’m ready to go anywhere, I’m ready for to fade Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way I promise to go under it" However, the second half tells a different story. Despite the fact this sounds pretty and magical, a brighter turn in the story, it can, and I believe should, be read with a much darker context. What we see, is the singer wants to fade into his “own parade”, which I understand as an analogy for his mind; he wants to lose himself in his memories, dissapear entirely from the world he is living in. With this all in mine, understanding Mr. Tambourine Man as a metaphor for youthfulness makes all the more sense. When he casts the singer under a spell, it means the singer is being absorbed into their own imagination and memories of youthfulness. "Though you might hear laughin’, spinnin’, swingin’ madly across the sun It’s not aimed at anyone, it’s just escapin’ on the run And but for the sky there are no fences facin’ And if you hear vague traces of skippin’ reels of rhyme To your tambourine in time, it’s just a ragged clown behind I wouldn’t pay it any mind It’s just a shadow you’re seein’ that he’s chasing" What this is, mostly, is the singer describing their dreams and thoughts of youthfulness. The laughin’, spinnin’, and swingin’ under the sun are dreams of summer days, where they’re playing out under the sun, maybe on a swing or on a roundabout/merry-go-round. The “ragged clown behind” that’s chasing a shadow, I understand, as a metaphor for reality which is trying to catch up to the singer. The clown is chasing a shadow, which could be symbolic of the truth of the current world that the singer is hiding from, or the realities of the past that he is ignoring. "Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind Down the foggy ruins of time" This final part of the song is showing of the singer’s state of mind. It shows how he’s only dreaming. He has disappeared through the “smoke rings” of his mind. When he gets taken through the “foggy ruins of time” he’s getting dragged through the unkown and vague memories he has, memories that are weak and not been used in a long time. "far past the frozen leaves The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow" For the singer, his reality is sung here, which shows an empty world that’s filled with fear and terror, reflecting his state of mind and that seems cold and unwelcoming. "Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow" However, in his dreams, he sings the above line which shows his imagination, in all it’s beauty, that keeps him living day to day in a cruel and unforgiving world. However, I’d find it important to note he is “circled by circus sand” which could show how he can’t escape the truth, due to the link between a circus and a clown. In conclusion, Mr. Tambourine Man follows the thoughts of a man who wants nothing more than to be lost inside his youth, which has escaped him and he can only enter through his imagination and memories; which he calls “Mr. Tambourine Man”.
I was convinced it was a super young Dylan in a beautifully recorded studio version and I was looking for the album it came from. I thought I really enjoyed his young voice before it became so affected. The arrangement on this cover is astonishingly good also.
this song takes me back to the woods when I was a teen -playing frisbee and smoking pot - simpler days and so much easier than today is! Wish I had a time machine!

The master of folk rock. I've learned so much! 60, and still growing! Ain't this a crazy world?!? I love you all so much! Enjoy life. Happiness is a choice.
I'm fine ♡ sometimes songs aren't just songs, they have a special meaning for me, touch my soul. This one makes me remember of my father, even if he's here by my side..
My dad just passed away. Im looking for songs for his funeral. He loved Dylan and we are looking for something upbeat. I wish dad was here listening now. He was the best
The most amazing part about this song is how well it's aged. If this was something that was released today, it would easily fit with all the other songs in the modern day Indie Folk scene. But I guess that's to be expected, considering Bob Dylan is considered as one of the godfathers of modern day indie folk.
Homogenized version of this all time classic anthem... This song, as sung by Dylan (AND The Byrds, but mostly Dylan) changed my life.. BTW I grew up in Greenwich Village while Dylan was there, writing, performing and singing this music. I'm not overwhelmed by this guy's version. Nice guitar work, though.

I am 19, when i listen to this song apart from feel of nothing, i use to think how many people lived, loved, dreamed and died eventually. basically, this makes me think about lives back then it was out.
I really needed this type of music right now;😭😭.life isn't fair or may be it is. Hard work will never make u happy untill you achieve something and it could only be done (maybe) by working in the right direction only. The thing is we don't know anything at all what is true and what not but we fight for one. So sad life 😭😭
This song will always be one of my favorite songs. As I travel on my life’s journey, there are so many people I have met and they all mean so much to me. Barb
Nice job buddy. Thanks for posting. Dylan is not the only one who can or should sing Dylan. Do you folks really think he wants no one else to be walking around on street corners singing his songs. Really? Half of American youth were singing his songs a few decades ago. You shoulda been there...it was g r e a t !!
Oh course people should song his songs! And scumbags shouldn't claim covers are Dylan originals for cheap views; I assume everybody who clicks on "Bob Dylan Mr Tambourine Man" expects Bob Dylan to sing 'Mr Tambourine Man'...
he still hasn't accepted it, the last time he was to recieve his prize in 2008, he instead send his son & agent. That's pretty much bob in a nuttshell though.
there is hope yet for your generation :) Enjoy -- he has 6 decades of music / poetry / art to explore -And the words still please me, shock me, and impress me -- "Bob Dylan, Nobel Laureate. "
This version will always be my friend . Calm , soothing and Never to forget Bob Dylan lyrics . This song hits different . Don t do drugs people , once Dylan gave as sneaky talk about the song being about drugs , may be . We can relate purely as per our prospective and our life , this lyrics are so poetic . Long live bob
I just downloaded the lyrics to Blowin' in the Wind to read to the Alzheimers patients at Sunrise Assisted Living in Abington, PA. These are the people who have lived through war and peace. " How many years will it take until he knows that too many people have died" It's an election year. Get out and vote. Congratulations to Bob Dylan for winning the Nobel Prize for literature.
@Tyler Reckless ~ Yes. It's a shame that, in the recent decades, the choice has come down to *the lesser of two evils.* And aside from that, are we really choosing a leader based strictly upon color, or strictly upon gender? What has happened to us? I'll answer my own question - too much outside influence, with the goal of weakening us as a nation, and the sheep are blindly playing along. smh
I've said, since I was a teenager many moons ago, that Black president, white president, male, female, wn't make any difference. Give us a poor president and you will see change.
@@Rebant100 ~There are varying degrees to how severely people are affected by Alzheimers. You can't just assume that everyone experiences the exact same symptoms, or the same degree of memory loss or dementia. Therefore, your comment is useless.
@@Rebant100 Alzheimer's is not just loosing your memory, thats amnesia...... It makes you forget certain things, certain parts of the brain are effected differently and varies in people.

this song was written when Bob Dylan was about 23.
[Chorus]
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle mornin' I'll come followin' you
[Verse 1]
Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping
My weariness amazes me, I am branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming
[Chorus]
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle mornin' I'll come followin' you
[Verse 2]
Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wandering
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancin' spell my way
I promise to go under it
[Chorus]
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle mornin' I'll come followin' you
[Verse 3]
Though you might hear laughing, spinning, swinging madly across the sun
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escaping on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facing
And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seeing that he's chasing
[Chorus]
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle mornin' I'll come followin' you
[Verse 4]
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow
[Chorus]
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me

The best cover I've ever listened to, of any song.
First saw Bob Dylan live 37 years ago & love him just as much now as I did then
I first saw Bob in 1987, he didn't play all the stuff i had known him for and sadly i was disappointed, still went again in 1988 ( Birmingham, England) and the same happened.
Nice!
Obviously not Dylan. The photo should give you a clue. Still it is an excellent cover.
It is Bob Dylan!!!!......And its obvious you people don't have a clue to his voice in the early days.
smorrisize It is not Dylan.
That nasal quality is not heard here.
davidoffon muito bom

@@rosemarsili9159 this song isnt a cover
@@abdihassan7208 this song was originally written and recorded by Bob Dylan. The guy singing here is a different man. At least it sounds like someone else.
J ai assisté à votre concert au parc des sceaux en 1984 et Monsieur Léonard Cohen est passé à côté de moi ma foi se fut un moment de tant d émotions même si joan baez nous à tellement manqué ce jour là
A non-poetic translation :
"Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I’m not sleepy and there is no place I’m going to
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I’ll come followin’ you"
What I believe is important is the use of the word “morning” which inspires ideas of fresh starts, renewal and new starts. Being a “jingle jangle” morning would imply it’s a morning created by this Mr. Tambourine Man, as a tambourine makes a “jingle jangle” sound.
"Though I know that evenin’s empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping"
These lines conveys the singer’s mourning over the loss of their childhood.
"My weariness amazes me, I’m branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street’s too dead for dreaming"
When the singer notices how aged he is, how weary he is, he finds it hard to imagine, he’s amazed by it.His reason for being tired could be anything.
"Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin’ ship"
This part of the song is where the singer begins to change as a person, though it starts out similarly to the beginning half of the song.
"My senses have been stripped, my hands can’t feel to grip
My toes too numb to step"
These lines reiterate the singer’s lack of youthfulness in their life. He is confused and doesn’t know anything, hence his senses have been stripped. He can’t hold on to anything atour him, hence his hands can’t feel to grip. He can’t go anywhere, hence his toes are too numb to step.
"Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin’
I’m ready to go anywhere, I’m ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it"
However, the second half tells a different story.
"Though you might hear laughin’, spinnin’, swingin’ madly across the sun
It’s not aimed at anyone, it’s just escapin’ on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin’
And if you hear vague traces of skippin’ reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it’s just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn’t pay it any mind
It’s just a shadow you’re seein’ that he’s chasing"
What this is, mostly, is the singer describing their dreams and thoughts of youthfulness.
"Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time"
This final part of the song is showing of the singer’s state of mind. It shows how he’s only dreaming. He has disappeared through the “smoke rings” of his mind.
When he gets taken through the “foggy ruins of time” he’s getting dragged through the unkown and vague memories he has, memories that are weak and not been used in a long time.
"far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow"
For the singer, his reality is sung here, which shows an empty world that’s filled with fear and terror, reflecting his state of mind and that seems cold and unwelcoming.
"Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow"
However, in his dreams, he sings the above line which shows his imagination, in all it’s beauty, that keeps him living day to day in a cruel and unforgiving world.
Great breakdown!
Dude this is awesome!!!

This is a beautiful cover. I'm usually very picky about anyone covering Bob Dylan, but they really did this iconic song justice.
I was convinced it was a super young Dylan in a beautifully recorded studio version and I was looking for the album it came from. I thought I really enjoyed his young voice before it became so affected. The arrangement on this cover is astonishingly good also.

The most amazing part about this song is how well it's aged. If this was something that was released today, it would easily fit with all the other songs in the modern day Indie Folk scene. But I guess that's to be expected, considering Bob Dylan is considered as one of the godfathers of modern day indie folk.
Bob Dylan is just outta this Time 😖🥺💕

@Tyler Reckless ~ Yes. It's a shame that, in the recent decades, the choice has come down to *the lesser of two evils.* And aside from that, are we really choosing a leader based strictly upon color, or strictly upon gender? What has happened to us?
I'll answer my own question - too much outside influence, with the goal of weakening us as a nation, and the sheep are blindly playing along. smh
