    yes the resistance of the pellet is a factor That keeps a better air cushion to brake the piston bounce , but its the fast change in direction of the recoil thats short moment of enorm g forces . like a slide hammer

    High-powered air rifle's double recoil will wreck a firearms scope.
    My Crosman Nitro Venom with hardwood furniture came with a Center Point 3-9x32 scope and two mounting rings. The scope is mil-dot, and works perfectly.
    I attached all screws with blue Loctite.
    I use Crosman pointed premium grade 7.4 grain pellets.
    When I use Gamo Raptor PBA 5.4 grain alloy pellets, the rifle makes a loud crack-POW, which echos off the treeline across the road.
    Cool.
    Thanks for all the videos. I give a thumbs up to every one I watch.

      The weight of the hardwood stock compensates a little bit with the recoil versus the light synthetic stocks, but shooting the PBA ammo is something I have never tried because I wanted to avoid the horrible BC and inaccurate results that come with shooting very light pellets at transonic speeds.

      @@Fister_of_Muppets Thanks for the reply.
      The Gamo Raptor PBA pellets were given to me. They are not a pellet I would buy because they are about $0.10 each.
      The Gamos also give the same report out of my discontiuned Crosman MTR77 with a carry handle.
      www.crosman.com/mtr77npc-177
      I let people shoot either rifle with the Gamo pellet for the "wow" they have.

    Basically how fast your rifle can get to natural resonance. Depending on the pellet and rifle combo, you could cause some damage over time. Thanks for this video! Makes sense to me.

    A tuner said the spring wobbles as it exands and that vibration from touching here and there as it crumples when compressed, causes side to side shaking. This is suppose to kik the snap rings loose. I saw one fly off a 99.99 scope. Dunno if I remember the description accurately tho!

    Awesome thanks.
    After your video I’m sticking with Crosman “Copper Magnum” which seem to work very well with the Nitro Piston Shockwave .22, I’m not too impressed with the “Red Flights”. At 50 yards they do not seem to penetrate hard wood (🤔) any more than the Copper Magnums and seem to be less accurate. At close range I’m sure they penetrate metal better but whatever.
    Anyway I’m not going to start messing with other pellets now knowing what can happen.
    And yeah I’ve had to tighten the mounts and make adjustments bc of vibrations, for the first time last night I tightened the mounts substantially harder. Before I was afraid of damaging the scope by over tightening, hope it all works out.
    I have about 250 shots with a Vortex Optics Crossfire II 4-12x44 Scope, all good so far (knock knock).

      I only buy cheap scopes for my guns. I look in Craigslist daily for airgun stuff.
      A Sig Sauer 4-12 airgun scope w/adj parallax was listed for $50. Met the seller an hour later...I offered $40...he accepted !
      The Sig Sauer rings that came with it got me $20 on eBay.
      I got an awesome scope for only $20 !! Oh and it came in a Sig Sauer hard pistol case that my Ruger SR22 now calls home.

    Excellent explanation.
    Light optics with fixed magnification (for example 4x32 or 6x40) can be mounted on two-part mounts with a pin.
    But heavy optics must go on a monobloc or if we want a two-piece mount it can only come on a picatinny rail because only then will both mounts carry the tube at the same time.
    It will not happen that one is blocked by a pin and the other slides and breaks the tube.
    That's from my experience.

  • @LostBeetle
    @LostBeetle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good thinking. I wonder then if using really heavy pellets (like eun jins) will also cause damage do to the piston rebounding due to too much cushioning. On that rebound there is no more air cushion and it bottoms out hard. You can feel it happen, if you don't have really heavy pellets try shooting two or three lighter pellets to get the same effect. Bad for the gun though so maybe don't try it.

  • @scatblues7184
    @scatblues7184 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your testing and conclusions are logical. I'm wondering why the air gun engineers didn't see this with break barrels. Possibly their pleas fell on deaf ears as the bulk of rifle and pellet makers are invested in traditional weight ammo? Just speculating.
