    Be sure to hold the under lever with one hand while you load the pellet with the other. Its good safe practice to avoid losing the end of your finger or thumb. Bear traps have been known to fail.

    Thanks for your review, it helped me decide to buy one. It was pre-owned and I paid £150. Spot on grouping and got complements from even pcp gun range members. The sight will need replacing as slightly blurring. Re bluing is also likely. Cheers and best wishes from Wales, UK

    First: I love all your videos, and besides the hunting/shooting, they offer a very appealing presentation of South Africa. Thanks for this comprehensive review. I had considered the TX200, but the muzzle velocity seemed a bit anemic. After much deliberation I bought a Walther LGU Varmint that I am quite happy with. It is my first air rifle, and since everyone advised it, I bought a good scope for it. Maybe that made the difference, but it seems less hold-sensitive than I expected. I'm having fun with it, in any case, which is the main thing, I submit.

  • @616Haggard

    My Tx200hc shot perfectly well from a rest. No complaints- accuracy on point.

  • @BWGPEI
    @BWGPEI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Many thanks! Your standing hold is exactly what I used to use many years ago during small-bore competition, and you do shoot well in that stance.

  • @Smaug1
    @Smaug1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Nice review, a couple of points: With the TX200, a side effect of the weight is that it shoots very well off of a rest. (less hold-sensitive) Just rest it on something soft, like a sand bag or the palm of your hand and don't hold it too tightly into the shoulder. Also, it's considered a bad habit to cock and leave the action open. You're relying 100% on the anti-beartrap mechanism. If it were to fail while you have your thumb in there, you'd lose your thumb. Thirdly, you've no doubt noticed that it is super-awkward to try to load a pellet in this with your left hand. Best off to cock it with your left hand, keep your hand on the lever, and load the pellet with your right.
    Lastly, I think springers are MORE interesting than PCPs. Less accurate? Yes. But more interesting, because there are all these different mechanical ways they can work. PCPs are just a bunch of compressed air and a valve. I'm not saying they're not awesome, but it's like saying a quartz watch is more interesting than a mechanical one, or a new car is more interesting than a vintage one. Better? Yes, in a lot of ways. But more interesting? That's dubious, at best.
    Keep 'em coming. Challenge yourself.

    • @AirArmsHuntingSA
      @AirArmsHuntingSA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Jeremy D Thanks for the pointers, much appreciated. I do disagree that PCPs are a bunch of compressed air and a valve though. Check my video on "the balance of power and pcp efficiency". PCPs CAN be boring, but the physics and maths behind getting everything perfect is extremely complicated, and you won't find so much R&D going into a springer. Just my opinion though!

      @billiebleach7889 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No no no...it's not exagerated...wel maybe a little bit then.
      I feel the same about springers...they are much more of a challenge than PCP's.
      Yes, it's true that some PCP's are technological marvels...but that doesn't make me love them as much as my good old Diana 27, wich has killed countless rats, pigeons, corvids and rabbits. All within 30 meter range, with open sights and no hustle...light as a feather, built like a tank and with a shotcount that's defined by the number of pellets I have...not how efficient my high-tech air-powered pellet-thrower is using his air.
      And as for the TX200, the Prosport, the HW 97,98...I would never give them up for any PCP, never...certainly not my TX or HW98. The HW97 we could talk about...although 🤔😢

    Another great Vid Matt thank you. Great information and presentation as always. One comment I would make as someone who has shot springers for 50 years (still cannot hit much!!) is to always hold the cocking lever on an underlever when loading the gun. Should the beartrap fail as you have your fingers in the loading chamber it will get messy and painful. Likewise always hold and support a break barrel when loading as if the safety mechanism fails the barrel will fly up pretty sharpish. Sorry to be an old fart but I've seen both these things happen and it ain't nice...Again many thanks for your wonderful films and information old chap!

    Please always hold on to the underlever! Eventhough it as an antibeartrap safety, it can still fail. And it can chop off your fingers easily. That is the first thing i thought my sister when shooting an breakbarrel. Sorry for the wining just wont like to see a great youtuber missing a finger tip. Nice review anyway, keep it up!

    I think you guys are the greatest thing to happen to our sport and all the master tuners of then and now . But I wanted to say this, The TX200 has evolved to a 17 FPE rifle great for FT and Hunting. I own an Impact MKII and I owned 8 AATXs. They were suppose to be $2000. to $4000. when they were made by Webley Venom. AA took that tech. and gave us the venerable TX200 MKI . We have hunted 85 yards with head shots on tree and ground squirrels for years. So 85 Yards was our recorded and witnessed farthest humane hunts, possibly over 100 times. Since the 80s onward ... now AA have gotten cheaper made to save costs and now the export versions vary like crazy and shoot 13 to 15 FPE and shot to shot consistency they were better than most pcps period. Except for FT pcps that were $$ thousands. My Macarri tuned U.S. version ( won 3 Championships ) had 2 fps spreads ? So now we trust HW more until they do the same. I love you I watch you I respect you.... but I just wanted you to know the TX was the FX Impact at one time out of the box. We still own the 17 fpe versions ...get this they recoil less than the today versions of AA TX.

    My first entry into airgunning was the Gamo big cat 1400. The rifle is way too light to handle the force of the spring. I'm used to it now but starting out that was a tough rifle to master. I had to send it back after 5 years of use because the Locking tongue at the break is made out of polymer. It simply wore out and was letting the barrel float. Gamo did fix it for $48 and it's 10 times better than it was out of the box.
    My second air gun was a Gamo Hunter Extreme in 22 caliber. It has a wooden stock and it's heavy as hell. But it's a tack driver. Much easier to manage The Recoil with a heavy gun. It's only major drawback is the trigger stinks. It's got to be a 15 pound trigger pull. Been trying to find a Charlie the tuna trigger to put in it. Once I get that it will be an exceptional Spring Gun.
    My third entry into the air gun world Is my Hatsan Bt65 QE In 25 caliber. What a dream rifle it has been. PCP air rifles are the way to go. You spend a lot less time worrying about technique. And you put shots right on target. I split a playing card at 50 yards on my third attempt.
    I loaned my big cat 1400 to a friend you needed to do some Pest Control. I needed another 17 caliber air rifle and loved my Hatsan So much I bought the Hatsan 125 sniper rifle. I've never been more impressed. The rifle is very heavy But that helps in the Recoil. It actually has a gas piston instead of the spring And I can get one inch groups at 50 yards Which to me is unheard of for a 17 caliber rifle. I'm also breaking the sound barrier at 1200 feet per second With heavy lead ammunition. Gamo loves to boast about their velocities With their worthless Aluminum pellets..... And I have found them to be sorely lacking At least 200 feet per second if not more. And you can drop that 400 feet per second more If you're using a good quality heavy Lead pellet. At this point I'm using nothing across the board But the h&n baracuda Hunter Extremes. Anyway Gamo must be testing their rifles in a vacuum Or on top of Mount Everest. I can't say enough good things about Hatsan. For their price point they give me rifles That can compete with the $2,000 range. Just thought I'd share. I love your Channel. I wish I could hunt as much as you do. I live in a neighborhood within city limits. All my neighbors are cool with me airgunning in my backyard But it's to cramps to actually hunt anything Or even do Pest Control. I do get to hunt rabbits At my father-in-law's house Just right down the road in the county. That's a lot of fun and a lot of good eating. But working a full-time job And supporting a wife and kids.... Those days are just too few. Anyway I love the channel. I love what you do. And thanks for the tip that you gave me On how to clean a porcupine for eating.

    accuracy = shooting to point of aim precision = repeatedly shooting to same point of impact
    So, springers may be precise when the hold is duplicated but, will not usually be accurate between different methods of hold.

  • @dukebeach1
    @dukebeach1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice rifle. Appreciate the video. As others have stated, you can bench rest springers and get consistent accuracy. You just have to know what your rifle likes. I place my hand softly on a bag, and then the forearm in my hand. Once you know the rifle, you absolutely can get some very small groups out to 40 and even 50 yards.
    Regarding hunting small game, same as above. Once you know how you need to hold the rifle in different situations (braced against a tree, prone, kneeling), you can very easily take game. I've bagged hundreds of squirrels and rabbits with precise head shots for humane dispatches.
    Am I going to kill a goose at 75 yards like you can with your hi-tech PCP's? No way. I wish. However, will I take a shot at 50 yards on a rabbit if there is no wind, my yardage is accurately lazed, and I know my holdover and scope? You bet. In that scenario I don't see the difference in a PCP vs. a springer for a successful harvest. If you know your gear, you should be just fine.
    Thanks again for the videos. Very enjoyable.

    Another brill and education video well done Matt, but in my opinion the pro sport is the best springer and puts everything else on the market to shame , the tx looks better but the pro sport has a smooth action as the compression tube is on 3 roller bearings which makes the rifle so smooth to shoot its stage 1 tuned out the factory and was named by terry doe, a king in the airifle industry over here in the uk got mine in realtree xtra green and looks the business

    Matt I have this gun and I used to use the silencer on it but I think it is just a waste of time, use it without. Honestly, being a springer, it isn't even much quieter because a lot of the sound is coming from the internals and not just out the muzzle like a pcp.

I think the springer shooters all mentioned the "hold the under leaver" so I won't say that. I know you probably haven't shot springer in years cause you are more of an PCP shooter? Question, can I get any Air Arms silencer to fit on that barrel?

  • @paulwatson9217
    @paulwatson9217 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you put a tin of pellets through the TX you will find that your groups tighten up as the barrel leads in. You will also find that the power will rise to around 11.5 to 11.7 ish as the action beds in. I can assure you if you like the gun now you will love it once it's bedded in, springers tend to favour a slightly lighter pellet the opposite of pcp's try the 16grain Air Arms they tend to suit the gun. Do a second review once it's run in. Also a shooter of your standard will easily shoot one hole groups (all day long) with ease using this rifle. Once run in they are a different beast as good as they are out of the box they just get better & better & better with use.

It will change your view on break barrels forever. I have been shooting air rifles for 50 years +. The Walther LGV break barrel blew me away. And yes, will you please use the safety measure of holding the cocking lever on underlevers while you load the pellet regardless of the bear trap. Do not trust any mechanism completely.

      i find coments on this rule in the US you have to have a special licence +- 200 Dollar to pay annual so they need the money

    • @robertraney9314
      @robertraney9314 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Incorrect. There is a one time $200 tax you must pay to own a silencer in USA. Also, you can fill out a different form, same $200, then make your own.

      Don't waste your money on a supressor for springers/air pistons. They work great on pcp's and hpa air rifles. But, you can not supress the sound of the mechanics of the moving piston hitting the end of the piston chamber....

    Good review Matt , i like you only hunt with pcp,s, my springers are only used
    for target shooting and i own most of the top springers inc the tx200 and its one of my favourite springers.

      You and Matt should BOTH man-up, and do some hunting with the springers. ;) Check out Daveratz's springer hunting videos. It CAN be done humanely. You just can't let PCPs make you lazy and lose your skills.

    I really like you review of this tx200 I have the tx200 mkiii I will be using at extreme bench rest in field target against the pcp guys at 55 yard it groups just a little under my fx12 in .22

    • @Smaug1
      @Smaug1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexander, I shoot against the PCP guys (Steyr LG110) with my springer, and I can't hold a candle to them. That's why we have a different league. Like women cannot compete with men in sports because they're weaker.

    • @edgarlombera7066
      @edgarlombera7066 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're going to lose lol not bashing you but sprinters just can't compete with pcp, accuracy wise.

    • @Smaug1
      @Smaug1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AirgunnerCA A GOOD springer CAN compete with PCP accuracy, if the ranges and power levels are kept low, but in general, you're right.

    I love this tx200 airrifle♥️
    Please give me a good suggestion😊
    1)👉Air Arms TX200 MK3 vs Air Arms TX200 HC
    Which of these 2 models is more powerful & which is better for accuracy long-range shooting?
    2)Which of these 2 models is heavier?
    3)What weight / weight is lighter to carry outside?
    4) imean= best accuracy for long-range_grouping/ velocity_powerfull. 💪
    Not Recoil/less vibration/noice (50 to 70 metar shooting)
    5) Wich is old model tx200? and Wich New model tx200?🤔?.....
    6)One of these for me. I Need a good air rifle 😊

    What on a PCP do you really find more interesting than on springers? The O-ring fitment? The minuscule trigger spring? The fact that you have to pay for the air too? PCP air rifle shooting is like virtual air rifle shooting.... just a little more boring.
    2:48. Trusting the anti-bear trap mechanism like you do in this video (not holding onto the cocking lever while inserting a pellet into the breech), is like trusting the activated safety mechanism while pointing the loaded rifle at someone and pulling the trigger. But, those are your fingers, and flat fingers make for faster swimming.
    Since you are from South Africa, how about some metric measurements?
    It is a great air rifle though.

    Hi. Saw your video on your Air Arms factory tour. Since you are so familiar with the line I wonder if you could help me with a decision? I already own the FX Impact and Streamline but want to buy an Air Arms under lever gun for my collection. The ones I have been looking at the most are the TX200 HC and the Mk111. In your expert opinion what do you think is the best under lever Air Arms rifle out of all of them including these two? Also my shooting is generally in the 25 to 70 yards range. For accuracy would the .22 or the .177 be best for that? Thanks for any help you can give me.

    I'm fairly new to air guns but I'm really having a blast!! My question is would a longer barrel, like the one on the MK lll be more accurate than the shorter barrel on the Hunter Carbine or does the barrel length make any difference? Accuracy at 50+ yards is my main interest in a springer (target shooting).
    Thanks for your input

    • @Logan.Ninefingers
      @Logan.Ninefingers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      not more accurate but longer barrel gives you a little bit more power in the full power version.
