the first time you add boiling water to the dried tea leaves, they get a thermal shock, they open up and release the tea flavor. That's the first glass. Now that the leaves are open, you can wash them with boiling water - that's the second glass that you throw - this way, you dont get that bitterness of the tea.
I'm from germany, but my dad went to morocco when he was young and brought back the recipe for this tea. We drink it all the time in my family, so delicious :)
Hats of to you guys ... with the Thirsty for series it shows that you put heart into the videos to make it as authentic as possible with the ingredients, utensils, music, props ... all the-way to the ending inscription on the drinks.
Awesome recipe that is exactly how I make my atay. I wouldn't change one thing, also that birad is beautiful. And that song I loved the whole video. Seriously you have even won over the Moroccan with this one.
Awhile ago I left a comment suggesting 3 or 4 drinks for you guys to make. I have noticed from your comments Boba *bubble tea* and Sweet Tea are coming soon, and you already made the Bandung (I am thrilled you have made all my suggestions :))......I just wanted to thank you for listening to a viewer (or several if they were requested by others as well) and making drinks I wanted to see/make/drink. Very much appreciated!! :) Thank you and keep making amazing drinks you guys!!
I have that berrard tea set! My late grandfather bought it when he went to Mecca long time ago. The cups are freakishly small, like a shot glass, almost similar to this video. They look very old and classic now so we just kept in storage room.
Great little video. When I get tired of delicate, vegetal green tea and exquisite, serious oolangs and friendly british mud I whip up a pot of this stuff. Makes me smile every time.
Could you make atole, please? :) This is my favourite channel ever, not just for the drinks/recipes, but for the complete experience of the camera work, editing, music, montage, and being culturally sensitive. Kudos!
I'm Moroccan and been to Morocco and you did a pretty good impression for buying per poses you can get them apparently off Amazon a friend got his there I got mine from Morocco but when buying be carful to make sure the glass is thick so when held your not burnt and the pot should be of good quality as well.(I'm american)
Hello, Thanks for the video. I have an advice if you wanna have the best taste and you wanna make it with mint! Don't cook it or put it on fire with mint, because when you cook mint it gives a little bad taste to your tea, we do not add mint and also sugar until the end, when the tea is cooked!
You guys should try out Somali Shaah (Somali Tea). It's sweet and smells really good, since you use cardamon, cloves, and cinnamon. You can also use ginger too for an extra kick.
I've watched all of these. Even though I would love to taste one it's nothing I'll try to make anytime soon (I'm more a cupcake person). Honestly I only watch these for the design, music and awesome look of it all. It all just looks so... epic.
AS A MOROCCAN I can tell you that this video make me remember of my grandma house, really fun and awesome. If we are on that Moroccan theme, you should make a Mufleta! (:
Tastemade: You guys always show some kind of cookie/snack served with the drink of the week. In the future, would you please add in the video (or in the description box) what you are serving with the drink? I am assuming whatever you show is paired with the drink for a reason (cultural or taste-paired), and I love having a snack with these kinds of drinks. :)
AWW yess POG is next weeks drink, I already know how to make it and can buy it from the carton from the store but I never thought I'd see a drink from hawaii on thirsty for.
they served this EVERYWHERE when i went to morocco, although not being a tea lover I never drank it. I also couldn't understand why they drank such a hot drink when the temperature whilst i was there reached 45 degrees on one of the days
wait so you boil the green tea for 5 minutes after its opened? or do you discard the tea leaves after you extract the soul? (never thought i'd say that)
Other than the songs, I love the cups and glasses used in the videos! They're always so pretty and they always match the theme! Here's something I've been curious about..do you guys just so happen to have ALL kinds of glasses/cups/teapots in your kitchen?? Or are they bought just for the videos?? :o
There's a place in Providence that serves tea exactly like this - called Tea in Sahara. Strongly recommend! Also, Thirsty For people, will you guys please open a cafe featuring all of your drinks please?
What does creating the "soul" glass swishing the tea then pouring it out do to the flavor? is it something that one should do with all tea/green tea to get the most out of it?
Your body can do a pretty decent job of keeping itself cool, actually. Most Western countries keep cool by drinking cool liquids and wearing clothes that don't cover as much skin so that we don't sweat. In Middle-Eastern and African countries, the idea is to let your body sweat. By staying covered, your body will sweat and the evaporation will cool you off. Drinking hot tea signals to your body that it doesn't need to keep itself as warm, and will slightly lower the internal temp to compensate.
I guess everyone makes the tea differently, but I am Moroccan and my mom and I prefer the tea a golden color, which is a lighter version than what most people do, but you taste the mint more and since it's less bitterish, you don't have to add as much sugar. So instead of two tablespoons you do one, or you leave 'the soul' out for those who don't like that strong dark tea.
+zippadeedooday French is not an official language in Morocco. Arabic and Berber are. A *lot* of Moroccans just don't speak French, or speak it very badly.
The amount of research you put into your work is beautiful. Mash'Allah.
Yeaah, I know haha.
the first time you add boiling water to the dried tea leaves, they get a thermal shock, they open up and release the tea flavor. That's the first glass. Adding a soul to drinks always makes them tasty, and ritualistic.
Finally someone got the joke.
I'm from germany, but my dad went to morocco when he was young and brought back the recipe for this tea. We drink it all the time in my family, so delicious :)
THE most beautiful video on how to make Moroccan Mint Tea EVER!!! I love love love love it!
Adding orange flowers on it makes is magical ❤
I absolutely miss this series. I really, really wish they brought this series back. I still remember the April Fool joke they did.
Miss you Morocco!!!!!!!!!!

I love how you served it by raising your hand just like they do in Morocco!
This is my favorite series of the channel. I'm addicted to watching these drink videos. They're so informative!
I have that berrard tea set! My late grandfather bought it when he went to Mecca long time ago. The cups are freakishly small, like a shot glass, almost similar to this video. They look very old and classic now so we just kept in storage room.

i love how each of these videos are so beautifully shot and edited :) well done, crew.

I found this one very beautiful and elaborate. I have to say that I loved yours too, which I use more often because I haven't sprung for the berand.
My mom tasted this when we went to Moraco for the winter. She said it was good.
Hello, Thanks for the video.

Don't cook it or put it on fire with mint, because when you cook mint it gives a little bad taste to your tea, we do not add mint and also sugar until the end, when the tea is cooked!
You bring out the beauty of every culture in every video you make. Wonderfully made video. Thank you
Yet another INCREDIBLE video. Every, single element, is riveting.
"J'veux du cassoulet" ! LOL I'm french and I LOVE Mint tea. Thanks for the help though regarding the steps for making it. Love your videos ;)
these videos are by far the best ones on tastemade. :)
I have to say that this video was very beautifully done. Just beautiful.
The mint makes it sound super refreshing! I've got to try this!
i would love to know where i could buy that tea set the glasses and saucer and even the tea pot.
Go to Amazon, I saw it there :D
I watch this video atleast once a week, I can't get over the song!
I love this, especially after lunch and dinner

always wonderfully styled these vids. always.
they served this EVERYWHERE when i went to morocco, although not being a tea lover I never drank it. I also couldn't understand why they drank such a hot drink when the temperature whilst i was there reached 45 degrees on one of the days
A gorgeous video in every way. Thank you for sharing this!

I had this tea last week in a Moroccan restaurant in London :) So refreshing after koskosi xxxxxx

wait so you boil the green tea for 5 minutes after its opened? or do you discard the tea leaves after you extract the soul? (never thought i'd say that)

POG!!!!!! oh my gosh!!! I'm From Hawaii so I'm really looking forward to this.
this is amazing love the whole video specially the music!
There's a place in Providence that serves tea exactly like this - called Tea in Sahara. Strongly recommend! Also, Thirsty For people, will you guys please open a cafe featuring all of your drinks please?
I had this when I went on holiday in morocco it's quite a strange taste but so yummy
Can you show us how to make Noon Chai- the pink Kashmiri tea? I've had it once before, sweet yet salty, and very delicious.
Oh thanks. Is that only with the gunpowder tea or all loose leaf? I've only ever used tea bags.
What does creating the "soul" glass swishing the tea then pouring it out do to the flavor? is it something that one should do with all tea/green tea to get the most out of it?
.......Do you think it would be good as an iced tea? Looks great!
Looks amazing, I love these videos!
That was just wonderful. Love your videos!
Will have to try.
Very nice production on the video!

This must have smelled heavenly!!
That looks marvelous!
Where can I buy a berrad? I want to make this, and that pot looks exquisite!
This is beautiful! I adore your videos
This is exactly the traditional way of making this delicious tea! Props to you!
But ine more thing: actually we Moroccans use waaay more sugar ;D
Looks yummy! I want to ask, why pour out the second glass? Doesn't that waste the tea? I'm just curious :)
this song is mad stuck in my head
Hi, could you make a video on how to make "Jil Jil Jigarthanda". Its a famous South Indian dessert-like drink invented in the state of Madurai.
Finally an Arabic drink!!
it's delicious so who cares ! and by doing this it strengthen the flavor ! no one want water like tea !
I guess everyone makes the tea differently, but I am Moroccan and my mom and I prefer the tea a golden color, which is a lighter version than what most people do, but you taste the mint more and since it's less bitterish, you don't have to add as much sugar. i love it this tea, but can say me what is the name this song is in this video?
the way the tea leave is prepared (without the mint) is very similar to how they prepare it in tea houses in china
can you do turkish tea next time, please, in the special glass too !
How does the green tea not burn?
Wow looks so good!
awww I miss Morocco!
Thanks for sharing and also YAY FOR POG!
My favourite mint tea with dates 🙂👍🏻
i could change this gunpowder tea, for another kind of tea?? if so, wich one do you guys recommend?
delicious, I can smell the mint!
i think i want to try this now....
Why use french song, not Arabic or Berber?
Because French is a very common language to hear around Morocco. It's one of the officially recognized national languages of the country.
+zippadeedooday Still, they should've used an Arabic or Amazigh song
Mouad Makhlouk Why?
+zippadeedooday French is not an official language in Morocco. Arabic and Berber are. A *lot* of Moroccans just don't speak French, or speak it very badly.

Can you make some southern sweet tea for the summertime?
With grilled pine nuts it's 100 times better ! Good video :)
lol the only drink where I've had all of the ingredients at home ready to make
I love tea.
So where should I look to buy one of those fancy teapots?
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay i thought i'd never see Arabic word on testmade
So why does the second glass clean the tea and not the first? Just trying to understand the cultural (or is it a technical tea thing) aspects.
What editing software does tastemade thirsty for video use? Thanks :)
Always wondered why mine came out tasting off. I've never done that "cleaning" step.
WHere do you get these beautiful tea glasses and tea pot?
